not really. I think we've had this discussion. Clients and Prey for Eyes are about 50% metalcore and guy's vocals have always been in the hardcore vein.

Even Fused has alot of metalcore/hardcore. Some of the moderately fast riffs with d-beat drumming are definitely hardcore and some of the breakdowns are definitely metalcore-influenced. I mean, compare the red chord to any actual death metal band and the differences are very obvious.

LifeInABox 10-13-2007 09:00 AM

Where's Coke, I don't feel like arguing :p

Fused was Death Metal/Grind
Clients was Death Metal with Hardcore influences
Prey is Death Metal with grind and hardcore influences, but it's really just Death Metal.

masterchaos 10-13-2007 11:03 AM

So I bought Skeletonwitch's album Beyond the Permafrost on a whim, which was hard because their name doesnt really say "Hey this aint a joke", and Im actually surprised by it so far. Pretty cool thrash riffs and some "meh" melodic death riffs.

The vocals sound nothing like Los Crudos, Minor Threat, or Wasteland, so I'm gonna deam you as wrong.

I honestly don't think you know much about hardcore. =/

Not trying to be an elitist or anything.

That said The Red Chord are one of the few good deathcore bands, and one of the few bands of the genre actually influenced by hardcore.

not a big fan of growls, or not a fan of johnny's growls?

and i love johnny's growls, they're mad unique.

Tyler 10-13-2007 02:37 PM

You could argue that there's a slight hardcore influence in Red Chord's delivery, but that would be a pretty weak argument. Fused has a grindcore influence, yeah, but hardcore is pushing it.

I always wonder why if a band has a tiny hardcore influence and breakdowns they're deathcore, but if they have a prominent hardcore influence and no breakdowns they're just Entomed. I ono!?

i am the robots 10-13-2007 02:39 PM

Second album has more hardcore parts.

and its because metal kids didn't hear of hardcore before 2003, so they think bands like Norma Jean and such are hardcore.

Tyler 10-13-2007 02:39 PM
Second album has more hardcore parts.
I don't even think Clients has that many more, I mean they're there but I think they're just accented by the extremely generic metalcore-esque production.

i am the robots 10-13-2007 02:42 PM

i havent really listened to them in a while to be honest, but when i did i remember the hardcore influence being kind of prominent. i might be wrong though.

Tyler 10-13-2007 02:44 PM

To be honest, I haven't listened to Clients in forever either. It's not a good album.

i am the robots 10-13-2007 02:46 PM

I like it a lot.

And the song Lay The Tarp has a very noticeable tuffguy sound.

Tyler 10-13-2007 02:48 PM

Guy is kind of a tough-guy, at least at first glance. He does have the "hardcore" stage presence, just in how he struts around and holds his mic. Then again, he's smiling the whole time, so that's not very broish

i am the robots 10-13-2007 02:53 PM

guy's awesome though, so it's okay. plus when i saw them on tour with tteotd his vocals were actually good for once.

antman has a good hardcore part at the end btw.

just dissecting it to point things out in boredom i guess.

Anyone who doesn't like death probably doesn't like metal :o

AA-12 10-13-2007 03:13 PM

Or at least shouldn't.

i am the robots 10-13-2007 03:14 PM

i'm not too into death's early material because of the vocals too, actually.

omg scenefag.

Nostalgia 10-13-2007 03:15 PM

They bore the fuck out of me.

Angmar 10-13-2007 03:17 PM

Austin, why do you disappoint me so? :(

Nostalgia 10-13-2007 03:17 PM

Idk, I just couldn't ever get into them. I've only heard SBG, so maybe I'm missing something.

Stormrider 10-13-2007 03:20 PM

Chuck's vocals in Leprosy are really awsome.

Austin, listen to Leprosy.

Angmar 10-13-2007 03:22 PM

Umm ad least listen to Leprosy, its like SBG but 10 times better. Also try their Tech stuff if your feeling up to finding some actually good tech death, Human is where it's at.
Anyone who doesn't like death probably doesn't like metal :o
Anyone who digs up a post of mine from weeks ago for the lone purpose of starting shit is a dipshit.

That being said, I stand by my statement. Early Death's vocals annoy me, later Death bores me.

To comment on recent discussion, I really don't like the Doom EP, but I am a big fan of Genesis. All Shall Perish is very good IMO, and what I've heard of The Red Chord is awesome. Although Mappy would disagree, I am also a big fan of As Blood Runs Black, minus thier occassional gay moments.

Angmar 10-13-2007 03:23 PM

We are talking about Death now, Josh felt like calling you out, get over it.

NemesisDivina 10-13-2007 03:25 PM

Leprosy is my 2nd favorite Death release. I'd say it's my first favorite lyric-wise though.

Bazarov 10-13-2007 03:27 PM

Death really blows. SBG was okay for a while when I first heard it. Then Leprosy only has one good song which is Pull the Plug. I'm not going to even bother checking out their "tech" stuff. I've heard songs like Flattening of Emotions and that one instrumental called like Sounds of Perseverance or some ****.

Genesis is alright. I just like Doom because it's extremely emotional for a death metal album.

I hate As Blood Runs Black, you are correct.
