^Guitarist in Rush

Lord Abortion 04-20-2005 07:37 AM

ah.. right I only have mp3s of rush so I didn't know who's in the band (excepting neil peart)

Thunder Fingers 04-20-2005 07:38 AM

Peart is a drum god, i would have done so much to be able to play with him..

Lord Abortion 04-20-2005 08:05 AM

yeah he does rule...

I would like to play like him

Deth 04-20-2005 08:23 AM

And of course the immortal Geddy Lee, my second biggest bass influence, after Harris of course.

vashts80 04-20-2005 02:01 PM

Suggest a Maiden song to learn on teh bass. I was thinking about either Rainmaker, Wickerman or Blood on the World's Hands :x But if you have any other suggestions, tell me plzkthx.

Deth 04-20-2005 02:06 PM

How experienced are you?
Beginner: Children of the ****ed, Wickerman
Intermidite: Aces High, Where Eagles Dare
Hard: Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Trooper with 2 fingers

Now...go!

Thunder Fingers 04-20-2005 02:30 PM

^cant go wrong with that list....

Lightning_Rider 04-20-2005 02:38 PM

What about on guitar?

I learned Fear of the Dark and The Clansman, they weren't overly difficult, except for the FOTD solo.

Now I'm doing Aces High and it's a bit more tricky than the others. Quite a bit actually, but I'm getting it.

So what are some other Easy, Intermediate and Difficult Maiden songs on guitar?

I'd say Hallowed be Thy Name is up there in Intermediate-Difficult.

HBTN is one of the easiest songs I've ever played on Guitar, but I'd class it as intermediate, since it can get quite confusing unless you know the song backwards, forwards and up and down...

TWN is easiest, solo is tricky, but just add some shred and everyones happy.

Afraid to shoot Strangers is one of my favourites songs to play, I'd give that an Intermediate level since it has some awkward triplets in there.

Aces High intro is impossible, I just can't get it to work... :upset:

The Thin line Between Love and Hate is surprisingly easy, it's easily my second fave song to play.

The Trooper, easy as pie...Sextuplet riff is a bit awkward, but after that it's easy, Solos are the easiest ever done by Maiden (except for Children of the Damned.

Infinite Dreams, is easily an advanced song, solely because of that clean first few minutes, it's insane, can't get my head around it. The rest isn't too bad.

Wasted Love, pretty easy, solos good to play.

Blood Brothers, another easy song. Daves solo is a tad tricky though.

Sign of the Cross, easy song after you've got the verse rhythm. Riffs aren't that hard, be can be awkard, Solos are a bit hard, so just tap away if you can't get it right.

Dream of Mirrors is quite hard for during the acoustic verse bit. Pinkies aren't supposed to do that sort of pull off :upset:

Iron Maiden...'nuff said. It's hard to find a good tab, but after you've got it, 'tis easy as walking.

Killers, is interesting, I've been playing it for about a year and I still haven't perfected the Harmonic Gallop jobby. Other then that, it's fairly straight forward.

Revealations, another easy-ish song, Solos are the hardest bit. The Acoustic bit is awkward, but other then that, it's 'kin amazing.

Flight of Icarus is harder then it looks, the power chord slides are extremely tricky, I can't play the chorus, it makes me weep.

Dance of Death, No More Lies, Paschendale are pretty easy, Solos aren't that bad, but Paschendales solo is a bitch, C# is a key that shouldn't be dabbled in.

Journeyman is probably the easiest song Maiden have ever done, though the electric version is a different story, since there are not tabs and I can't quite get it by ear.

Losfer Words is full of easy riffs, and has my favourite riff (the bit with the harmonies), simple stuff.

Well that's all the songs I could think of...

I'm not really sure, lmao

I've gotten down...Run to the Hills, Brave New World, Metallica's Whiplash, For Whom the Bell Tolls and Master of Puppets (up to the 3.30 or so interlude) as well as Slayer's Raining Blood.

:x

Edit: My favorite part of RiR is probably during FotD when Bruce is riding the camera across the stage, that's amazing.

Edit II: Also on RiR, on HBTN, the final "yeaaahh" is held for 28 seconds. That's amazing. I could only go for about 10, and that's without making my voice vibrate like his does.

Sandtrap 04-20-2005 05:21 PM

ive jsut joined the "maiden club" as Im on board with all the stuff from there first album. pretty good I must say!

Lightning_Rider 04-20-2005 08:40 PM

Well I've only been playing about 8 months. Hallowed Be Thy Name I don't find terribly hard, just that some of the riffs have a lot of pull offs and what not, I find it a bit confusing at first, the solo seems kinda fast too.

Aces High, yea the intro is tricky to get it sounding exactly right, and also theres a riff in the pre-chorus which I find **** hard to play at the same speed with the song. The solo has a lot of fancy pull off stuff, but I'm getting the hang of it, I want to learn more stuff with hammer ons and pulloffs anyway, cause I think I could be better there.

Btw I don't know if I'll ever see someone who can play more Maiden songs than that

 It's a requisite for being in the Maiden Authority, need play lots of songs. Atm I'm trying to learn Weekend Warrior, Still life (yeah, still learning it) and From Here to Eternity. It's just finding the time to sit down and get on with it nowadays.

Edit: Lord Abortion, Can you play Trooper with all the Fills? If so *bows* :thumb:

You're a king amongst men... The fills are what make that song complete.

I need a splash cymbal to play the ghost note at the end of the verse
a crash works fine though...

I dont have enough toms to play the bigger fills 100% correct but it sounds accurate and that's the important thing

I'd better explain this- the drum teacher was beng an idiot and making me play like someone who had never played a flam before! and making me play monotonous pointless sequences of flams. admittedly I was appalling drum-wise yesterday but sometimes I just have an off day- I went home and played stuff fine without messing up but I seem to play a hell of a lot worse in a drum lesson than on my own which is odd - slightly nervous i suppose

ashman 04-21-2005 04:14 AM

Yeah sounds like nerves, I have the same problem. Whenever I go into a guitar shop (when it's full) and I have a fancying for a new guitar, I try it out and I just freeze. My Vibrato goes to hell, my hands shake slightly and my timing goes completely out. I think that's because all the people stop and stare at someone who is trying a guitar out... :upset:

Thunder Fingers 04-21-2005 04:38 AM

^ i dont have exactly the same problem, but i have a major problem finding out what to play....(im one of the few that DONT like to show off...)

Lord Abortion 04-21-2005 04:49 AM

yeah it's interesting because I =just mess up simple stuff that I could play with my eyes closed elsewhere...

Riva 04-21-2005 05:37 AM

Just play Enter Sandman or Stairway To Heaven, and leave it be. I'm always too nervous to try anything halfway decent, simlpy in case I stuff it up. :(

Thunder Fingers 04-21-2005 05:39 AM

well, if its a bass that realy catch my intrest i my play something harder on it(or i used to do, until the day someone turned around and looked at me while i was playing yyz...)

but everytime i pickup an acustic bass, i cant help myself, i have to play blood on the worlds hands :p

amateurbassist 04-21-2005 05:47 AM
