Yeah, but I've been set on waiting, you're waiting because you couldn't find a link for the leak...
I approve of this post.

awia 01-29-2008 06:23 PM

I wouldn't doubt it if they make it into billboard...I mean...Machine Head made it into billboard with 10k sold in first week, so did Colors I think too, So i wouldn't doubt it..

Tyler 01-29-2008 06:26 PM

You're failing to realize how many charts they have. Of course they'll make the "metal" charts.

awia 01-29-2008 06:29 PM

I'm just talking about the top 200 billboard chart in general..

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 06:57 PM

Got it.

Russell's Teapot 01-29-2008 07:12 PM
lol, Americans got ripped off. And anyone else outside of Canada.

Why? Because I just got Fortress, and it's a purple digipack.
So it was different for you guys. Oh well.

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 07:14 PM

It's just a jewel case for me :upset:
Yeah, but I've been set on waiting, you're waiting because you couldn't find a link for the leak...
no
i just love the anticipation and hearing how good it is from everyone

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 07:17 PM

This is the first time I've heard it.

The basswork is remarkable.

Pastorius 01-29-2008 07:19 PM

The bass is absolutely amazing. It actually reminds me a lot of the Spiral Architect bassist in places, which is weird, because they're like uber-tech prog metal.

Just beautiful counterpoint throughout. My favourite part is the drums though, he's developed a lot. The double bass is phenomenal throughout the entire album.

beans 01-29-2008 07:19 PM

so ive heard, so its much more audible than on kezia then?

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 07:25 PM

Yes.

My only semi beef with the drums, not just the drums, but mainly, is the breakdowns on Bone Marrow. It's more than made up for by the piano at the end, though. I guess I don't mind them that much, it just kinda meats up the lean music. I dunno :p

Pastorius 01-29-2008 07:25 PM

The bass is a lot more prominent, he's got a great tone on it too. Sounds a bit like he's using flatwounds, but I doubt it.

Bone Marrow is my favourite at the moment. I like the drums in it, he keeps it tight the whole time I reckon.

"So join the king of kings, wore seven rings and sixty feathers plucked from sparrow's wing's"

Just the best transition to a chorus ever.

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 07:26 PM

He's playing a Spector.

beans 01-29-2008 07:28 PM

ive seen his bass when they play live, he usually plays a green one, never really looked too hard at the headstock but he rocks the hell out of it

and im glad you can hear the bass better on this record, that was probably my only problem with kezia

Pastorius 01-29-2008 07:28 PM

You can put flatwounds on a Spector! I do love Spectors though, I'd love a Spector 6er, might be able to buy one if I sell my current bass.

Tell you what, he robs one of my techniques I was convinced I invented, arpeggiated 2 handed tapping. I, of course, did not invent it, but I use it a lot.

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 07:32 PM

hah, I do that, did I steal it?

What do you have now?

I love his tone on Palms Read in the slapping part. I think he might be using a chorus pedal, but I'm not 100% sure.

awia 01-29-2008 07:38 PM

It is "Shah - Jan, the king of kings, wore seven rings and sixty feathers plucked from sparrow’s wings."

just to let you know.

Pastorius 01-29-2008 07:42 PM

Well I never. Cheers! He's kind of hard to understand sometimes, but you can see where I went wrong. How would I guess Shah-Jan!

I play a Cort Artisan A6 at the moment, in Flamed Maple, which is a bit uncommon but not really rare.

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 07:44 PM

Do you have an Aim screenname, dude?

Pastorius 01-29-2008 07:47 PM

Nah, my MSN is on my profile though. I don't use Aim, don't know anyone who does really!

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 07:47 PM

Not me of course *cough, cough*

Tyler 01-29-2008 08:54 PM

I think it's actually Shah-Jahan, though. Regardless of what the lyrics say.

Arif is a better bassist than what you're hearing too. Much better. I'm not crazy about how his bass sounds on the album, but Im glad you can hear it.

HBP, give that "breakdown" time to settle.

LifeInABox 01-29-2008 08:58 PM

You were right when you said they like their breakdowns, though.

Against Miik! 01-29-2008 09:02 PM

i think everybody in the band improved. The guitars are scaled back at times, but thats not a digression, it just fits. The most impressive improvement is Rody though. Absolutely amazing how much his range has increased. I'm sure its a combination of practice and just growing up.

Tyler 01-29-2008 09:04 PM
You were right when you said they like their breakdowns, though.
There are like three on the album that would actually be seen as traditional breakdowns then. And they're used as bridges not THROWDOWNS.
I'm sure its a combination of practice and just growing up.
It's almost exclusively this.

His range will always get better, and he's already an amazing singer. But he's trusting himself and confident enough to explore his voice more. He still has a lot of trouble live, because he's not confident enough to rely on his voice when monitors don't work (and they very rarely do). But his work on Fortress is a major, major **** YOU to everyone who hassled him for Kezia. He got the most ****, from anyone and everyone, and he came back and **** right in people's faces with all the acrobatics he pulls off.

Also:
Considering each drastic progression from album to album, what do you think your next progression will be?
Straight-up grindcore, just blast beats and shredding; I’ll growl the entire time. No. But seriously, who knows? We won’t ever lose the melody though. Singing is the only thing I am passionate about besides alcohol consumption.
I can actually totally picture this

Also, also:

Chester Bennington is still better....Have I won the thread yet?
Chester Bennington is still better....Have I won the thread yet?
No but you definitely fail at life, if it's any consolation.

Poet 01-29-2008 09:13 PM

I was always skeptical about Protest the Hero. Fortress though, changed my opinion on them for the good.

PIGS(1 different one) 01-29-2008 10:06 PM

Yeah this guy's voice still bugs me.

Tyler 01-29-2008 10:06 PM

You have to at least admit he's greatly improved.

I can't get over the lyrics though. Yeah they're nerdy but they're really, really well thought out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8gReqRq-xo
Rody looks so uncomfortable and awkward .

He also looks rather nerdy haha.

It also always amazes me when I find out that a great vocalist smokes.

Tyler 01-29-2008 10:25 PM

He smokes like mad, drinks like a reverse-firehose.

He's nerdy because he was insanely hungover.

Txus 01-29-2008 10:29 PM

 he looks like a great guy to chill with and smoke a bowl

Skyler 01-30-2008 12:47 AM
Yeah this guy's voice still bugs me.
His singing on Kezia bugged me a little, but not on Fortress.

pixiesfanyo 01-30-2008 02:28 AM

why are these guys so popular?

Tyler 01-30-2008 02:29 AM

idk, why do you have two gross lesbians as your avatar?

we'll never know.

seriously though does it really bother you that much?

pixiesfanyo 01-30-2008 02:31 AM

they're sisters. but whatever.

Tyler 01-30-2008 02:32 AM

they're popular because they worked they tour their asses off. and because people enjoy their music.

Shred Danson 01-30-2008 02:32 AM
why are these guys so popular?
I dunno, why would a band that writes good music be popular?
