I don't get how you can listen to just the music and ignore the words. Sure, music is often more important than trite teenage poetry, but Against Me! tried to deliver a message with songs that weren't about the average girlfriend breaking up. Pints of Guiness is a GREAT take on what would be a hackneyed subject. But tell me, sans those subject songs, could you listen to Un-Thought of Heroes or Reinventing or Those Anarcho Punks without questioning them for hypocrisy? How could they sing so passionately about the underground and then spit on it multiple times? I mean, FINE, they didn't like people at PIX making fun of the ham boards, but was it necessary to threaten legal action? These were the people they used to support and when they ****ed them over, they expected them to bend over and take it, but alas, Tom underestimated the vehemence of his peers and the fever that their music inspires. I'll still listen and enjoy because yes, they make good music and the lyrics are still great and they're probably one of few bands whom I sing along with, but will it feel hollow sometimes? Of course. Am I gonna feel sick going to the Warped Tour to see them for thirty minutes among NOFX and Anti-Flag fans? Duh. At least they play mostly 'old' stuff, but I got a feeling that'll change soon.
I <3 NOFX. NOFX > AM! Anti-Flag, I'm not a fan of. |
I <3 NOFX. NOFX > AM!
Anti-Flag, I'm not a fan of.
To each his own. Some guys like men and if you like NOFX, I'd assume you're part of that subcategory. |

Wow. How intelligent. Go suck off Andy Warhol. |
Haha, NOW it's cool to dislike AM!
I stopped liking AM! the moment the music started sucking. Politics doesn't bother me. How many other punk bands have sold punk to the kids before? It's our own fault if we believe them. Can't be upset at anyone but yourself if you put that much trust in a band's lyrics. |

Yeah. I know the new album has grown on you nick, but it just never did for me.
Don't Lose Touch, anyone? |
I like their new stuff, and I'll probably like the new album on Sire (if it exists) if it doesn't suck, but that's just me.
Don't Lose Touch was catchy in a bad way, but I still enjoy listening to it. |

I just sent my friend Joe's song and told him it was by me.
|
I think we should have an official Propagandhi Thread over an against me! one. Who's with me? Anyone? anyone at all? Nick? hello? anyone?
|
Haven't we already got an official Propagandhi thread?
|

How did you know that I would fellate Warhol? |

First off, how the hell is Un-thought of heroes about the underground? I'm pretty sure they didn't threaten legal action. Why is it so hard to understand that Tom doesn't want to be involved or support a group of people who the majority of which hate him and are jerks about everything he does? |
No, they never threatened legal action. They didn't have to because PIX doesn't own music. They don't do contracts. Chris doesn't even own his own songs.
They're not looking to make money. The reason that they wanted to keep Crime is because when other artists aren't doing so well, the better selling artists can help keep the cycle going. It allows for more DIY bands to get their music heard and allows Chris to take the financial risk. I understand wanting to make money. But the Crime EP will probably only give AM! a couple more bucks. Instead of leaving it on PIX to help the DIY scene, he acts like a rockstar. |
I thought all the artists owned their own songs.
|
I'm sure the other bands might, but Chris doesn't own his songs. But even though it's his label, he doesn't have any rights over other people's music with contracts and the like. Just trust and verbal agreements.
|
He/FatWreck did threaten legal action if the ham boards weren't removed. Forum mods there have confirmed it numerous times. They didn't, however (According to Chris), threaten legal action for Crime. |

Oh, I don't know anything about that. That's so stupid. The ham boards were hilarious. That's f'ucked up. Tom is a piece of s'hit. |
I saw an article on them in Kerrang! today, which is like the worst music magazine ever.
|
Tom is an anarchist! He's going to smash you through the courts of law and the american judicial system! WATCH OUT KIDS!
|
wtf, i just kinda read the last few pages, but can someone tell me what's gone on ?
|
Against Me! signed to Sire records.
|
So ?
I've never heard of Sire before but i'm guessing they're a major label and people are crying about it. |
You are correct.
|
Oh well, my opinion on them hasn't changed much, they're still my favourite band and i hope there new record owns.
lmao, i've got a thing for loving "sell out bands", Rancid, AM! |

|
Yeah, i've just checked it out.
Hmm, SFAFC was great, but not as great as the previous two, i can't see them making music like RAR anymore :( It depends on whether the label has an input into their music. Also, what was the stuff about Crime ? |
Hm. The English Beat were on that label.
|
/listening to Reinventing Axl Rose
:) |
SELLOUT!
With me tonight. Sellout! With me, oh yeah. |

Excuse me, is this The Official Reel Big Fish Thread is Still Honest? I didn't think so. <3 JK |

Is there a RBF thread? That would be pretty cool. |
Is there a RBF thread? That would be pretty cool.
I don't think so, I'm sure there have been, but none of them were official. RBF aren't interesting enough to have a thread that lasted. |
Yeah I guess not. I like them though.
|
Yeah I guess not. I like them though.
I think they're pretty mediocre, especially the new album. They don't have drama like that of Against Me! |
