ps. Soad has the worst lyrics of any rock group since Def Leppard.
Is that a joke? Although they're not simple so not everyone will understand, but they have good lyrics if you get them. :thumb: |
I thought soil were still going now though. Did they not make that song called Halo?
Thats a differnet soil :thumb: |
I actually liked I-E-A-I-A-I-O and thought the rest of the album sucked (well except for innervision which was okay but sounded like something recycled off the toxicity album).
ps. Soad has the worst lyrics of any rock group since Def Leppard.
Not true at all. They're just a little abstract and silly and times. I agree with you on STA, though. I like I-E-A-I-A-I-O, but hate the rest of the album. Here's my album list (from best to worst): S/T Toxicity Mezmerize STA |
2. Wrong.
Then again, "They always send the poor! They always send the poor!" is pretty damned laughable. |
Well, I hate to dig into one of your favorite bands, but "I wanna penetrate you...I wanna fuck you like an animal" is also fairly laughable, but I know that Trent is a good lyricist because I've heard a few other songs. Listen to more of their stuff, and it becomes evident that they dont suck as bad as BYOB's lyrics. Granted, they aren't the most descriptive, but Serj is a better lyrical talent than most of the mainstream rockers out there.

Oooh...that hurt, man. :p I've noticed that Serj is far better lyrically than Daron. Didn't Daron write a lot of the crappy lyrics on the new album? EDIT: By the way, I used to be a huge fan of Toxicity and their S/T, so I have heard most of their material. |
People are under the misconception that Daron wrote most of the lyrics on Mezmerize, when really, he's always written bits and peices of their songs. Typically, Daron says that he writes the chorus, and Serj writes the verses and everything. But yes, Daron did do more lyrics, and the results aren't as satisfying.

I thought it was one of the better lines on the album. Couldn't have been worse than, "Everybody ****s...Everybody sucks," or "My **** is much bigger than yours." In general their lines have no meaning and are completely random, having nothing to do with the lines before. And some of their lyrics are just childish. |

My "**** is much bigger than yours" are not just lyrics, its a metaphor, and if you knew what it meant than you might look at the song differently. but the everybody livin now part, yea those are pretty bad lyrics.. |
I kind of get borderline pissed when someone singles out a lyric and talks down a band's lyrics, because as a whole, System actually do have quite a group of better lyrics. Every band, no matter who you're talking about, will have a song or just a line of crappy lyrics. Take Tool for example; "If I'm the man and your the man and he's the man as well, then you should point the 'f'in finger up your aaaass" (Or something like that) That's crap, and of course someone could say that Maynard is a sucky writer, but then I'd bust out my theory on The Grudge, and Saturn, and all this other stuff, just to make that person cry. :)
Tangent++ :( |
Yes, I could sense the anger at the post I made before. But you know my feelings on System...I just like to bash them for some reason :p

Tangent++ :(
Very well said.. about the tool thing especially. |
Aeriels is an awesome song i have vids live from Big Day out 2004.
|
Yeah most of SOAD's lyrics are metaphors for something or other :p
On a releated topic anyone got Serj's book? It rules and really shows off his writing :thumb: |
The best SOAD lyrics were the straight-forward, well thought-out lyrics of Prison Song. Sure, it may sound like a joke; but in the song they have an argument and literally back it up with statistics. Plus, they have this uncanny way of making the lyrics memorable. I've heard people who are ignorant to politics yell things like "...while abolishing mandatory minimum sentences!"

Yeah sometimes I dislike really obvious in your face lyrics (one of the reasons I have gone off RATM) but I think they work in the prison song. Sometimes you have to sing witout dodging round the subject with metaphors and other such techniques. I like the lyrics to ATWA, Deer Dance and CUBErt |
I like most of the lyrics before Mesmerize. Let's hope Serj writes the ones for Hypnotize. Also let's hope it's longer.
|
 yeah I gotta agree about the Prison Song stats sticking.
|
the lyrics in aeriels are pretty cool.. and the only song on mezmerize thats has like bad bad lyrics is radio/video, but the make up for that by havnig cool instuments.
|
I like how they do the metaphoric lyrics. I feel the song more that way, cuz not a lot of people get the songs message. When you do, then it means that you are really into the song, band, and the message behing the song. Like +zero+ said, it makes us look at the song differently and with more respect. I hope Serj writes Hypnotize's lyrics though, i just like his way of thinking.
|
System of a Down has awesome lyrics. They are sort of like Tool in that a lot of the words have underlying meanings. I like how they mixed up the vocals more on mesmerize with daron singing more, but hopefully its a one time thing. I'd guess that every SOAD fan agrees that mesmerize was a weak album compared to their previous releases (including Steal this Album), but is still decent. Question! is an awesome song. By the way System of a Down switched the release of mesmerize with Hypnotize because they all thought hypnotize was a far stronger album and they wanted to save the best for last. Either Serj or Daron said in Rolling Stone that mesmerize was only a preview of hypnotize.
|
Okay, let's not make out SOAD to be the Bob Dylan of nu-metal.
Would somebody like to translate: "I want to fvck my way to the garden because everyone needs a motherfvcker." |
sup people, i heard that on hypnotize their going to have an instrumental called hezze.
|
Um...Awesome, just awesome, that's a wick name for a song, I can't wait for it. I'm going to skip to that track as soon as I get Hypnotize. Thanks for the preview. I'll tell everyone at school.
I find there to be NO bad tracks on Mesmerize, they all have their enjoyable moments. I don't think the songs by themselves beat the single songs on S/T or Toxicity, but as a whole I find it far more consistent then the aforementioned albums. |
sup people, i heard that on hypnotize their going to have an instrumental called hezze.
Where did you hear this? |
i like instrumentals..
|
i like instrumentals..
Yes, lots of people do. |
Hmm, an instrumental. While that would be great, I doubt they'll have a song on hypnotize that's instrumental.
|
SOAD doing an instrumental? kool, but i dont think they'll go for it either. If they do, then I guess they're trying out new things. But yeah, where did u hear this?
|
Daron and Shavo where discussing it in an interview recently, its called "Hezze" I believe
|

"Fuck" could mean the work that has to be performed to get to a goal. He wants to get somewhere or somthing, particularly what the goal is. "Because everyone needs a motherfucker" Here, I think he's stating that someone messed somthing up for him and that's why he needs to work towards that goal and get to where he once was. It'd be alot more accurate if the whole song was analyzed. Is anyone up for analyzations? |
SOAD freakin own. They're a joke band who have serious political messages.
Ha! It's George Bush! A joke president who has serious responsibilities! (Lets not get into dubya's ineptitude mmkay?) |

When SOAD have something to say, they make it obvious.
EG: "All you maggots smoking fags out there on Sunset Blvd" When SOAD DONT have something to say, they spout BULL****. EG: "BOUNCE! Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo BOUNCE!" |
Daron and Shavo where discussing it in an interview recently, its called "Hezze" I believe
If they do it I hope there a good solo in there. I think that would be a good idea. Also, any new news on Hypnotize? |

Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo BOUNCE!" which song is that Launch Radio Networks reports: System Of A Down is reportedly eyeing November 15 as the release date for "Hypnotize", the companion album to the band's first album of 2005, "Mezmerize". Both discs were recorded at the same time, and guitarist Daron Malakian told Launch that he doesn't think they're all that different. "I'm so inside of it that maybe that's a little tough for me to tell, but I don't see too big of a difference," he said. "I see them both as one record, you know? Not to compare us to, like, The Beathles, but the only thing I can compare it to is, like, you listen to the 'White Album' and it's a double album, but, like, they're just a bunch of great songs." The release date for "Hypnotize" has not been officially confirmed yet. "Mezmerize" was released on May 17 and has sold nearly 1.3 million copies in the U.S. Daron Malakian recently told MTV.com that "Hypnotize" will feature System Of A Down's first instrumental, called "Hezze". Malakian said, "I just think it's cool to have an instrumental. Not enough people put instrumentals on their albums anymore." The track is influenced by Middle Eastern music, but also features rock and disco elements. Malakian also said that the band's next single would probably be the title track from "Hypnotize". Meanwhile, System singer Serj Tankian recently remixed a track by late rapper Notorious B.I.G., called "Who Shot Ya", for an upcoming and unspecified video game. |
Hypnotize will be good. Instrumental, power metal stuff, more solos, etc..
I think this will be BIG! |
