Everyone should check out Maiden Voyage now.

Think Thergothon.
What other albums by Lacrimas Profunde should I pick up beside the one sent out on the Daily Upload?
I think that La Naissance d'Un Reve is a pretty good album, but like someone else said, get Memorandum.

publicastration 07-28-2006 10:01 PM
I think i've mentioned Swallow The Sun a few times in this thread.
I think they're pretty good.
A Doom/Death band from Finland.
Very good vocalst, I love his deep growls.
I've ordered Ghost Of Loss a while back, the special edition, with a dvd with a clip and some live material, it's good stuff, I can recommend it to fans of doom/death.
I love the lyrics to descending Winter, not all that special but they fit very well with the feel of the music:

Descending winters for all lands,
All hope is gone, in his hands.
out from the north, in to the south,
winter turned his frozen mouth
Swallow The Sun is great.

Their best song is Through Her Silvery Body.

Werny 07-29-2006 01:58 AM

There's always been a lack of Skepticism talk here. What are people's thoughts on them?

I still need to get Aes, Lead & Aether and The Process of Farmakon. No one has them! I've heard most of Lead & Aether though, it's brilliant.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-29-2006 02:03 AM

I've got the Aeothe Kaear demo, and it's pretty good. I've only given it a quick listen so far, though.

I've got it downloading. If you like that, maybe get Stormcrowfleet (which has re-recorded versions of some songs from the demo) or Lead & Aether for something more artsy and better produced.

rhcp pman 07-29-2006 04:00 AM

I'm actually listening to Stormcrowfleet right now - it's wonderful. :)

And Swallow the Sun is definitely a good band.

the2stranger 07-29-2006 05:48 AM
I wouldn't go that far!:p

You could appreciate the power of their sound but all in all I wounldn't say I enjoyed it. There was a death/doom band on that night as well called Indesinence. Check em out if you like that kind of thing. Nice guys.

Werny: as far as I remember there was only 6 members - lots of distorted vocals as well.

In another Esoteric-related trivia - Their old drummer used to also play in another doom band called Unsilence. He was then replaced in Unsilence by a certain Mr J. Ondur
I've heard of Unsilence, funny fact about the drummer.
Are you sure it just wasn't you in disguise?

I'll check out the other band too.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-29-2006 05:56 AM

Unsilence are really good.

the2stranger 07-29-2006 06:04 AM

my distro doesn't carry any Unsilence though, and judging by the M-A page of them, it's hard to come by :(

Apocalyptic Raids 07-29-2006 06:07 AM

Here is a track: http://www.unsilence.co.uk/mp3/unsilenceoceans.mp3

the2stranger 07-29-2006 06:08 AM

Thank you. :)

publicastration 07-29-2006 01:07 PM

I like Electric Wizard

I don't know of any other stoner/doom bands.

the2stranger 07-29-2006 01:10 PM

Sleep \m/ and Kyuss.

publicastration 07-29-2006 01:16 PM

What's a good Witchfinder General album?

Freezing Moon 07-29-2006 06:15 PM

Death Penalty.

Friends of Hell is really cool too though.

Steerpike 07-30-2006 12:43 AM

Isn't anybody going to read my review of Candlemass' self-titled? Hell of a lot better than the first one.

Nepenthe 07-30-2006 12:44 AM

I did!

Apocalyptic Raids 07-30-2006 01:02 AM

I did, nice review. I haven't heard the album yet, though.

publicastration 07-30-2006 02:23 AM

Whoa. Just heard some Sunn O)))

It's scary.

TheOpethAffinity 07-30-2006 06:05 AM

I've been listening to a couple tracks from My Dying bride. is that funeral doom? its pretty good. gives a despair-y, sad, metal-ized emo (not a bad thing) type of thing, pretty good. what are other bands like this?

ive heard sunn o. wow. steaming pile of crap. their songs are like a 15 min mess of low-low-tuned guitars strumming the same chord 10 times then moving on to another low chord.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-30-2006 06:06 AM

My Dying Bride are Death/Doom.

One should not generalize like that, statements like that could e made about every genre.
black metal: Just some guys who can't afford decent recording equipemnt.
death metal: Just playing as fast and hard as you can while just screaming words no one can understand.
rap: just some dudes talking endlesly over a beat.

Drone just requires objectivitiy as every other genre.
It's good stuff imo.

and MDB is great doom/death \m/

Werny 07-30-2006 07:12 AM
I'm actually listening to Stormcrowfleet right now - it's wonderful. :)
Lead & Aether is much better, so is Farmakon. Stormcrowfleet is so lo-fi.

On their later stuff they really show off their talent for creating minimalist soundscapes.

I just got Aes, it sounds brilliant. Has anyone got The Process of Farmakon or the 5th track from Lead & Aether (-Edges-) for upload? That's all I need.

I myself am not a fan of Candlemass' self titled. In fact, a lot of it is just annoying. I love Witches, the start of Assassin of the Light and The Man Who Fell From the Sky though.

repcak 07-30-2006 08:05 AM

MDB is death-doom, yes, though funeral doom uses growls too it creates a different atmosphere through music.
listen to shape of despair to get a feel, what funeral doom is....

the2stranger 07-30-2006 08:11 AM

Yes!
Shape Of Despair.
DFuneral doom is different from normal doom mainly because of the speed, of lack there off.
It's even more slow than regualr doom and creates an even denser atmosphere by layering.
normal doom does this too, but it's more clear in funeral.

repcak 07-30-2006 09:55 AM

yeah, the more i listen to funeral doom the more i like it... and i love shape of despair

the2stranger 07-30-2006 10:10 AM

It took me ages to get into funeral doom and drone, but now I love it.

np: Draconian - The Cry Of Silence (exellent doom/death)

Daven 07-30-2006 10:12 AM

Can someone recommend me albums like Aeothe Kaear by Skepticism.

Draconian is great BTW.

Txus 07-30-2006 10:26 AM

Draconian is amazing, I can't get into Funeral Doom/Drone for a reason...I've tried and tried :(

Apocalyptic Raids 07-30-2006 10:29 AM

I don't mind Funeral Doom, but I much prefer Traditional.

Nepenthe 07-30-2006 12:55 PM

Funeral Doom is godly. Daven, check out Maiden Voyage. I posted a link for his album on AR's free downloads thread.

Daven 07-30-2006 12:57 PM

Thanks, ill check them out.

repcak 07-30-2006 12:58 PM

i could never get into traditional doom metal... i simply don't like it... for me its just old school heavy metal.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 01:01 PM

Anthony: How do I download this album?
I'm on the site, but ...?

Nepenthe 07-30-2006 01:03 PM

Yeah, I had a hard time getting them too. Just bring up the thing where you can choose mp3 or something else, and instead of just clicking on the mp3 picture thing, right click it and 'save link as'. It's some weird type of file, but Winamp will play it. Just do that for all four songs.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 01:12 PM

Thanks, it's working now :)

Nepenthe 07-30-2006 01:13 PM

No problem. It's real good stuff, very Thergothonian. But don't let that dissuade you Daven, since I know you don't like Thergothon too much, as Maiden Voyage is excellent.

Daven 07-30-2006 01:28 PM

Haha, im currently downloading it. I think ill like it.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 01:30 PM

I'm d/líng the last track, should be good :D
