Just got this from the Incubus newsletter:
SURF'S UP FOR INCUBUS! Brandon and Mike's team won last Sunday's surfrider Celebrity surf jam in Huntington Beach, and Brandon was crowned MVP of the event. This week, Incubus' passion for surfing and music collide with the premiere of the new surfing documentary, Flow. Flow is a feature length documentary covering the life and history of legendary surfboard maker, Al Merrick and the Channel Islands Surf Team. For the film, Mike wrote the majority of the score while Brandon narrates the film. A number of Incubus songs pepper the flm as well. The band will attend the premiere tonight, September 19th, at the Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara, CA. INCUBUS BEGINS RECORDING NEW ALBUM! Incubus has re-entered the recording studio to begin writing and recording their fifth full-length album. Stay tuned to this space for all the details!
Nice to see they are comming out with a new album, can't wait. |
Awesome, new album coming out. Do you's reckon it will be even more mellow or will they bring back more of there metal/rock influence back into it. I am hoping for another S.C.I.E.N.C.E type album
I highly doubt that will happen. First of all, Dirk Lance is gone, so the funk bass is gone. Second, they have seemed to mature alot musically. It still has an awesome groove, but in case you haven't noticed, they have become more musically advenced from album to album. I am expecting this album to be jazzy and hard rock. I'm imagining there will be more songs like "Make a Move" on it. |
I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded more the Odyssey Movements, which would be awesome.

Yeah, it would be pretty sweet. I heard that song "Follow" and it reminded me of prog music for some reason. Probably be the time signature changes in it. Mostly in the intro riff. |

now what i have found is that "follow" has differences from the first movement of the oddessy, and oddessy has a much better feel to the song |
Thye fourth movement has the most beautiful build up at the end, but then ends.
|
I think we're going to see a good mix of mellow and somewhat hard rock songs on the new alblum, i believe brandon just broke up with is longtime gf, well maybe not longtime but gf nonetheless, so i think we'll have some stellar/echo type of songs, stellar was inspired by his last gf i believe. Either way i cant wait.
|
I tend to like there songs more that are about Brandon's relationships.

I get so pissed off when it ends, they could have milked that progression for 5 more minutes. |
I'm hoping to hear more jazzy piano songs like "Here In My Room." This album is going to be amazing no matter what. Brandon Boyd can sing anything and make it sound great. Ben and Mike also complement eachother perfectly when they play. It will be good no doubt.
|
it probaly sound awesome like the others, anyway does anyone know the release date of the next album
|
My guess is summer of 2006, probably around June or July. It's going to be very jazz influenced if they continue in the direction they are heading.
|
yeah i agree

Ever since they got jazzier, I've liked them even more. They don't seem like the same band but they are and they're incredible. |

Sorry, I was so excited, I forgot to look previous posts, message deleted :thumb: |
He uses it during the "Pistola" solo. He does a bend and twists the knob on that thing and it sounds like a ray gun. It's a big box looking thing. I have no idea what it is. It isn't a phaser or flanger. It's a box thing on a table. Any ideas?
That was just a Delay actually. I don't know what exactly the little box with knobs is. It altars the signal of his guitar somehow and I think it's similar to Kilmore light sensor thing that does the same thing when you move your hand in front of it. But yeah on the pistola solo he puts on a delay and changes the speed to make it sound like that. It's this: B -7b- G -9b- He holds the bend while changing the delay settings. |

He makes his guitar sound like water. It was pretty cool. Didn't really fit in the song, but it still sounded cool. |

I would like to see Ben sing some songs, he has a great voice. |
I hope on the next tour they play a few of Ben's songs occasionally.

Their new music is 50 times better technical wise, and it's great, but I'd much rather listen to songs like Calgone than songs like Pistola. |

It's always hard for me to choose a CD to listen to so I just switch off occasionally. |
Does anyone have any good live wallpaper sized pics?

Their new stuff isnīt that technical, in fact, most of Fungus is much harder to play than the Crow stuff. |
I also tend to like some the songs that deal with Brandons relationships, while it wouldnt be good if a whole cd was filled with echo like songs, a good amount would be great. Everytime i listen to echo i still get chills, partly because it pertains to some of my feelings right now and partly because its such a beautiful song.

It is more technical for the most part, but I did like the harder/funkier vibe they had back in the early days. |
on the volume 2 dvd, in the slot machine thing you can get a video that has the band playing with mikes pedals, and there is one realy cool pedal that brandon is playing with it, does anyone know which one it is
|
listening to pardon me right now

I've never actually seen that but if you dscribe it a littl better I can tell you what it is. What does it sound and look like? Let's see back then his rig would probably have included: Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere 2 Boss PH-2 Super Phasers DOD FX13 Gonkulator Boss RV-3 Reverb Delay MXR Phase 90 DOD FX25 Envelope Filter Boss CS-3 Compressor DOD FX75 Flanger Boss GE-7 EQ Boss OC-2 Octaver So yeah it could be any of those. |

I doubt there will be any songs like echo on the new album. That's the type of thing you're write while in a relationship, not when you just end a long one. |
What the hell is a Gonkulator?
A Ring Modulator with a DOD Grunge added to it. The Modulator itself only rings on one frequency (Bb if I'm not mistaken). It was made famous in the song Glass. |

I always wondered what that was. I pulled the B string over the G and it almost sounds like it. |
They need to make more of the Odyssey in their new album. I'll be a #1 Incubus fan if they made another Odyssey an album long.... woohoo.
|
does anyone know any incubus amp settings, i've been trying to get the Crow Left of The Murder sound.

I know he uses Mesa/Boogie 2x12 combos. Lay off the distortion a little and play with the neck pickup on. |
i love how Bens bass sounds in the Red Rocks Dvd
|
when he starts that drive riff when i saw it for the first time i was like WTF then i clicked.
