Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:25 AM

I had Evil Empire, but I didn't really get into it. I got the albums all out of order.
BoLA, Evil Empire, s/t, Renegades, Live & Rare, Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium.

Really? I got into Evil Empire from the beginning.

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:35 AM

The basslines caught me, and I did find "Year of tha Boomerang" catchy, but once I listened to the s/t(I got it the week after I got E.E.), I wondered why Tom wasn't soloing like he had before. It sounded like more of a rap album to me than rock, although there are obvious rock tracks.
I'm a bit more open to it now. Tom's effects are pretty awesome. Tim's bass is catchy. Brad's drumming gets the beats stuck in my head, and Zack's political rapping got me into politics.

Moses 06-25-2005 09:44 AM

I actually almost like E.E. better due to the fact it's more Rap orientated......

Alot more catchy.

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:47 AM

The rapping is catchy, but I've preferred the s/t above all of the albums. It seems to have more metal/hard rock influences and I'm a sucker for both.

Moses 06-25-2005 09:49 AM

Well not just the rapping, listen to Snakecharmer for a second and you'll know what I mean.

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:51 AM

I did like "Snakecharmer", and I wish I could. I'll probably have to buy the C.D. again. Someone got into my C.D. case and took Evil Empire along with a Linkin Park C.D. I was going to use for skeet shooting.
It doesn't cost much. I liked "Tire Me", "Down Rodeo", "Vietnow", "Year of tha Boomerang", and "Revolver" so I'll end up getting it again.

Moses 06-25-2005 09:53 AM

Overall the album is more catchy, and I think parts of it are more original. I really love s/t though, but it's more of a mood thing. And on top of that I don't have it on my computer.
That's a lie.....
Acutually it isn't, name a Korn song with a good bassline. I don't find anything spectacular about somebody someones bassline at all.

Children of the Korn- Some pops in there drenched with effects
Justin- Flows very well to me, still too low in the mix
Seed- has a creepy feel to it
Cameltosis- more popping/slapping, this time without the effects.
Blind-the little bass in the beginning is just so phat I can't tell you. Also the outro has a latin bassline in there.
Ball Tongue- No need for explanation there, the slapping/popping.

That's only off of two albums. I really must agree with you on Tim > Feildy though.

Darkness 06-25-2005 10:42 AM

I don't really like to many of those basslines that much, except for Blind which isn't bad. Even when I was a huge Korn fan, the bass was always my least favorite part of the band.

Still you can't say they are bad basslines, just that you don't like them that much. Also I forgot about Porno Creep.

Darkness 06-25-2005 10:47 AM

I said none were really that good, not that they were all bad. There's a difference.

I can't recall the bass in Porno Creep... maybe I'll give it a listen.

Moses 06-25-2005 10:52 AM

Well, I think some of them are good. Definately not great but there are bands that pay no attention to bass.

Bass_ment 06-25-2005 04:25 PM

I have the biggest hard-on for Timmy C's bass tone*

/fanboy

*cept the twangy MM Stingray sound on the s/t.

spankyoplank 06-25-2005 04:32 PM

Has anyone here seen Timmy's new Double neck jazz bass *drools*

/fanboy also.

Darkness 06-25-2005 04:38 PM

Yeah that bass is pretty cool.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 04:51 PM

You guys are comparing too totally different bassists. Sure, they both do some slapping, and use more effects than your every day bassist, but Fieldy isn't really utilized in the typical fashion. He's almost a percussive bassist, really, whereas Tim Bob actually provides the melody occasionally.

However, if I had to be stuck with one's tone and ability, I would take Tim Bob over Fieldy.

spankyoplank 06-25-2005 04:59 PM
Yeah that bass is pretty cool.
It looked really heavy though.

Were not really compareing, were just saying we like Timmy more, as you did.

I'd say they probably have a similar ability (I could be wrong) but Timmy's tone would take some major beating. Does anyone else find the fact that he is tuned B-E-A-D really annoying because it means us common four stringers have a bastaard of a time working out the songs?

Mambuto_O'Mally 06-26-2005 09:59 AM

^^^
Its not that bad. Tom does the same thing and it works out fine for me. Any updates on the covers yet????

Bass_ment 06-26-2005 12:28 PM

Could someone link me up to the double neck jazz bass? Haven't seen it.

By the way: My girlfriend made me the coolest gift, she gave it to me today. Its a small mirror with a large wooden frame and on the frame is written all the lyrics to Freedom (as she knew was my favourite song). Beautiful handwriting and it was just an awesome gift.
Just thought I'd mention it hehe. :D

Theres BoP with bass. Not the greatest, but good enough. Anyone think I should turn the bass up or down?

Mambuto_O'Mally 06-28-2005 08:18 AM

Well, someone needed to get this thread going again, so I thought I'll post something. But honestly, I've got nothing. Are Audioslave playing any festivals this year? If they do I bet they'd surprise a lot of people with some RATM songs.

Static 06-28-2005 11:31 AM

What do we need for BoP now? We got teh drummage and teh bassage, so we need vox and guitar. C'mon guys!

Darkness 06-28-2005 12:54 PM

I just restringed my guitar, and will most likely be pracitcing that song this week, and will have it recorded by the weekend... I leave July 5th to July 21st to go to Italy, so I'm ganna try really hard to get done before I leave...

live theory 06-28-2005 12:59 PM
Evil Empire is my favourite RATM album
Seconded, then it would have to be self titled, and then battle of los angeles.

Mambuto_O'Mally 06-29-2005 09:11 AM

I saw the video of RATM playing 'Testify' on Conan O'Brien yesterday. Its sweet!!! :thumb:

Has anybody thats doing Vietnow got anything to show for it yet??

Shaft! 06-29-2005 11:09 AM

Wow, that must have been before the SNL show. I couldn't imagine NBC letting them on any of their shows after that.
That show was sweet though. You had to get the background info on it and I thought it was awesome.

Yeah, they did the SNL show I think about 3 weeks later.

Darkness 06-29-2005 12:18 PM

Why did you get banned?

:upset: It's an addiction, it's so fun to destroy the n00b's spirits in there.

Well, I've been fine. How 'bout you?

I guess they really only banned de la Rocha because Audioslave is allowed on NBC programs.
It should have been Tim, he was the one who lit the flag on fire and threw it in Forbe's dressing room.

Pretty good. I spent the last week in Colorado, so that was fun.

How's that cover coming, fellas?

I think it was a brilliant thing for Tim to do to a presidential hopeful.
Ever wonder why he didn't win? Other than politics.
