Yeah, this thread is now closer to a board then it is a thread.

Classic Rock thread = Not just a place, but a state of mind.

andy 05-18-2004 09:23 PM

classic rock is the best. The doors, the who, the beatles, dramarama, the cure, sp, and others.

Badmoon 05-18-2004 09:54 PM

La Cure es no Classical Rock

~Hendrix's Ghost~ 05-18-2004 10:08 PM

for awhile i was only into more mainstream music. One day i heard "come together" by the Beatles on the radio and i remember thinking "wow, this is really good" So i started listening to the Beatles. Then i started hearing Hendrix, which made me think, "old music is the sh*t". now i listen to mostly all classic rock, with the exception of a few newer bands, which started in the 80's and just kept making good music.

~Hendrix's Ghost~ 05-18-2004 10:11 PM
pink floyd is a great band. ever listen to dark side of the moon a classic. they are a good band.
i never go into Pink Floyd, and i dont see whats so great about Dark Side of the Moon. (Money is a kick *** song though)

Lateralias 05-18-2004 11:00 PM

Hendrix's Ghost... have you heard Pink Floyd's other material other than DSOTM? If you havent check out The Wall and Animals, they somewhat have a different sounding style than Dark Side.

~Hendrix's Ghost~ 05-18-2004 11:02 PM

ok I will. thanks

RockAndRoll 05-19-2004 02:35 PM

If your a new listener (to them) I would reccomend wish you were here.

BludgeonySteve 05-19-2004 03:23 PM

It seems like the n00bs just kind of say. "yeah I like classic rock" and then list some band names. We were past that about 700 posts ago.

Check out 'Time Was'. It's an excellent song. Give it a listen, it's actually quite a quick download.

sillydave 05-20-2004 07:45 AM

Hendrixs Ghost, also check out Comfortably Numb. Most awesome solo ever ;).

Haven't seen much talk on Rolling Stones or Stone Temple Pilots. Anyone like them? (Yes i have read all pages of the thread a while ago)

Also, what do you thinking of Velvet Revolver? (Stone Temple Pilots + GnR basically) I think they could start to convert a few people.

Freebird 05-20-2004 07:45 AM

I have also noticed
I've noticed kids only liking popular and well known Classic Rock bands, like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, ect...

They missout on some of the greatest lesser known Classic rock bands. Like The Byrds, or Buffalo Springfield, Big Brother and Holding Company, The Velvet Underground, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Van Morrison, ect. Most of those bands were pretty big in their day, but the kids these days aren't looking for those bands. Usually, they are looking for the heavier, or louder types, but that's only the kids I know.
Yeah most of my friends love zepelin and skynyrd

nananabatman! 05-20-2004 09:48 AM

I think I'm a 40 year old stuck in a 14 year old's body. Classics bands are almost the only thing I listen to. I hate this crap whiny music today. I've always wanted to know if Nirvana is classic yet or if it'll ever be. It really sucks that Kurt died before i could go to any of his concerts. that ba****d! Zepplin and AC/DC rule. oh and The who and the doors do too

~Hendrix's Ghost~ 05-20-2004 10:40 AM

I think Velvet Revolver is going to be the return of good music. Their songs are awsome, and Slash's guitar work is classic. Their CD comes out next month I think

Badmoon 05-20-2004 12:52 PM

There is good music going around now, it just hasn't took control of the mainstream.

I was like that until I was 18...I listened only the Who and Zeppelin throughout High School...you have to understand that there are great bands out today...I mean, nothing better than Tool, IMO.

But, I am a fan of Prog: Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, etc.

Anyone else like the prog?

Slash is the most underated guitarist ever. I mean people notice how good he is but not fully. The guy's a machine ;)

~Hendrix's Ghost~ 05-20-2004 06:21 PM

Slash is my hero

He's a great, but he's not that underrated. Check out Stephen Stills, now there is an underrated guitarist.

~Hendrix's Ghost~ 05-20-2004 06:43 PM

You know whos an underrated guitarist?

ME!!!! :D :thumb: :p

rocknotroll 05-20-2004 06:46 PM

^Post a link to some of your playing and we will be the judges. Unless you were kidding which i'm very sure you were.

Oh yeah and some ****ing cunt banned me for no reason so i'm using this name until I get my ban apealed.

Badmoon 05-20-2004 06:52 PM

VoodooChild 05-20-2004 07:16 PM

RNR - What did you do?

Hair Metal Man 05-20-2004 07:41 PM

classic rock is great. man i like
The Eagles
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix

Badmoon 05-20-2004 08:59 PM

Here's a game for everyone

Name some Classic rock bands, and think of a band that is closest to them in this modern day (though you can go a little bit earlier than the present time).

Ex. Pink floyd - Radiohead
The Who - Pearl Jam
The Grateful Dead - Phish

Hendrix22 05-21-2004 01:07 AM

the reason so many kids listen to classic rock now is because todays rock has become so crappy they turn to older and better music like me. Some of todays rock is ok but mostly is just bad. Like my fav bands, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Weezer, Zeppelin, The Doors.........

jetblackfender07 05-21-2004 07:22 AM

**** right good charlotte sucks.

Nah Tool's not even close to Zepplin but go you for the Genisis loving. I do like one band that's out today, anybody know Rammstein. They're pretty good in a german rave music kinda way. Anyway..............ouch my brain hurts..................................

Badmoon 05-21-2004 12:32 PM

No, you put who you think would match

Rolling Stones - The Black Crowes

B0nz0 05-21-2004 01:40 PM

i'd do this except i'm too disgusted with contemperary music to come up with any matches. i have no clue about any new band. o well.

lunch998 05-21-2004 03:28 PM

Led Zeppelin

Most new music is so unoriginal and it all sounds the same.
I think Led Zeppelin is the best band ever, but i dont mean to overshadow all the other great classic rock bands you guys have been talking about.....The Who, Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, etc........
Also I play drums and drummers back then were great....Bonzo, Mitchell, Ginger Baker and Keith Moon.

Classic rock is awesome

Mitch Mitchell is a pretty underated drummer. I mean who really listens to the drums when Jimi is play?

And I love Led Zeppelin but i'm going to break something if another person posts about them being the best band ever.
but i'm going to break something if another person posts about them being the best band ever.
^ Your coming along nicely :)

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-22-2004 02:04 AM

i still think Led Zeppelin are the greatest rock band ever, but i dont feel the need to preach it.

anyways, I aggree that Mitch Mitchell is one hell of a drummer. The only surviving member of the Experience :( his drum work on "fire" is still some of the most enjoyable skin beatings ive ever heard. than Jimi had to go along with his band of gypsys and Mitch was left hanging dry for awhile, but ill always think of him as Jimi's drummer.

lunch998 05-22-2004 07:50 AM

Yea, Mitchells definitely great, and hes underrated cause people tend to look just at Hendrix but there was more to the Experience then just Jimi.

And sorry for saying Led zeppelin is the best band ever......i guess you've probably heard that a lot by now.

lunch998 05-22-2004 08:28 AM

A great Mitchell track is Manic depression on Are you Experienced. He really makes that song.
