but he's irrelevant to the dubstep scene

Surf 10-04-2010 02:00 PM

i wouldn't say he's irrelevant; he made it onto the 5 years of hyperdub comp - he's clearly present in the scene, just not a major part of it.
Agreed but I said, "in a couple of years they'll be more quality north american dubstep than compared to the UK." So while they are indeed playing catch up now, they won't be in due time.
by which time there'll be something new and no one will be paying it any attention anymore.

HighandDriving 10-04-2010 02:01 PM

Irrelevant to an irrelevant scene.

Ok, I should have used an artist along the lines of Excision, Datsik, Triage and DZ.

publicastration 10-04-2010 03:08 PM

i find those guys pretty cookie cutter

and datsik is canadian

only us dub I think is really worth mentioning along with top uk artists is starkey

2muchket! 10-04-2010 05:43 PM

There are a lot of good NA dubstep artists already tbh, but it's already changing and has changed a lot since I got into it 3/4 years ago - and it's uk artists who are doing something new like pariah, james blake and mount kimbie. Nearest equivalent to them would be FaltyDL.
Oh, the doofus speaks. Flying Lotus does have elements of dubstep and has dubstep centric releases. See: Shhh!
Oh you're right: datsik is canadian, and therefor can't be counted as a NA band.
Or his split with Joker
Ya there is some more too. P.s nice dig.

For now, yes, but all of those artists are distancing themselves from the dubstep genre. And the UK is also killing the genre with Rusko, Katyb and whoever. NA dubber will most likely stay loyal to the genre and overtake the UK in a few years while more and more musicians, like the ones you mention, will continue to branch off and become something new.

2muchket! 10-05-2010 08:08 AM

In recent memory especially with electronic genres I can find examples to contradict you hnd.

The only house artist from NA really relevant and truly excellent is deadmau5, the rest are all lagging behind the french electro house artists. Especially sebastian.

Same thing with trip hop, dominated by british artists, only artist that really came close was DJ Shadow on Endtroducing.

EDIT: Rusko's finding an audience further afield now though, he'll be influencing more artists as he gets bigger in NA so I wouldn't be so sure on that. Pretty preposterous notion that the NA scene is the least likely to become generic and mainstream though. In fact it's pretty fucking stupid thing to say.

HighandDriving 10-05-2010 09:13 AM

Please remember I'm referring specifically to the UK in correlation to NA.

There are many NA electro/house acts that are relevant: MSTRKRFT, Steve Aoki (ugh), Drop The Lime and Armand Van Helden; those are just some of the popular ones. But ya, NA is always gonna lag behind French and Italian Electro.

Trip Hop is dominated by british artists similar cause very of it's small exposure; no one is really trying to take a stab at it other than people from the UK. It may go the route of dubstep and find a large audience overseas but I think it's gonna stay pretty much confided to the UK.

Frank, idk how you're gonna make it as a lawyer when you can't even analyse someone's argument properly. Maybe you can do paralegal work or something. I didn't purpose the NA scene is the least likely to become generic and mainstream - please try and focus. NA is most likely going to have a larger volume of generic and mainstream dubbers once they overtake the uk in quality volume too; the two correlate most of the time. Deadmau5 is trying his hand at dubstep, he released a pretty good song, so that'll most likely touch people's ears before Rusko ever has the chance. Hopefully.

trip hop small exposure ? really ?

Other than that I can see what you're getting at, still remains to be seen if in actuality it happens.

Fucking lol at you trying to to infer my advocacy skills are poor, think I made it pretty clear to adb I don't take internet debates or 'arguments' really that seriously. If you want a critical analysis of this subject gimme half a day I'll bash one out.

Well I would but lol taking internet that srs.

Anyway getting away from this bullshit and to stop HnD posturing and make Luc look stupider anyone ever listened to Kingdom ? Some good dubstep with actual decent prominent garage influences.

Surf 10-05-2010 02:16 PM

by the time na start producing dubstep of the quantity/quality hnd is talking about

no one will give a shit about the genre anymore
