When I think of punk...I don't really think of AFI...especially after the last album...

Good job saying something that is said every page in this thread! |
AFI before Jade was in the band is pure Hardcore Punk. When he joined their sound changed a lot, but you can still 100% hear hardcore chord progressions and such. Personally I classify their later works as Post-Hardcore in the sense it take sgreat influence but adds more to the music.

That's what El_Shizzy says about them too and I 100% agree. |

I really like AFi, and i would certanly agree with the melodic hardcore part, but i'm not really into all the genre's ;)
But i do think that every album they have are great, and i'm really looking forward to their upcoming record. Does anyone know anything about this record? (title, release or whatever?) |
Davey says it should be in our hands in early 2006, will have a "cold pop" sound, and it will have more electronic layering.
|
that's cool

Not really annoyed. :) It was just a false statement, as hardcore as a genre has been around for a while and is still around today. So your reasoning for calling them post-hardcore was incorrect. However, they are post-hardcore in the sense of the musical style instead of the time period. |

They are an undoubtedly very original, good band.
My favourite songs are Ever A Day and The Prayer Position. I would love to see what they are like live, so I hope they take next years Carling Festival into cosideration. |
the best AFI songs are Morningstar, I Wanna Get A Mohawk and This Secret Ninja.
AFI RULEZ |
they're not punk anymore, they were when they started out, but now they've moved on to post-hardcore. they've said multiple times that they dont' want to keep one constant sound, they want they sound to keep evolving. and to the person on the first page, they didn't change their sound to get on MTV, everytime their sound has changed was because they wanted to move forward.

Because if I remember correctly, you were talking about SYMAOYE being post-hardcore, when that's clearly straight up hardcore style-wise. |
My band was thinking of covering Girl's Not Grey. But we didnt

Nope, as of now we're a cover band. Next time we have a practice I'll record something. Come to think of it, that could be today. |

I wanna do something off of TAOD as ska. That cd's got enough short notes that I think it would be easier to turn it into ska than any of their other stuff. I think I wanted to do A Story at Three as ska before. |
The bassist and I want my band to cover God Called In Sick Today.

No, my drummer, bassist, and singer/rythm all like pop-punk, so they're like yeah let's do some AFI. I eventually talked them out of it. I need to find some horns for my band. |
My band covered This Celluloid Dream, but we haven't recorded it jet, we only play it live. But the crowd loves it.
|
they should it's a great song....

Go to a high school marching band practice. Talk to everyone carrying brass. At least half are ska fans. |
A bunch of black-on-black Sing the Sorrows, some 336's, and Girl's Not Grey promo vinyls are being sold in the DF store now. They're originals too.
|
AFI is one of those bands that continue to keep getting better but I still don't see what's so great about their early ****. Art of Drowning and All Hallows EP is their best stuff. Sing The Sorrow is cool too but it doesn't sound like AFI.
|
You forgot the awesomeness of Black Sails in the Sunset and 336...though most people don't have 336
|
i want 336, reeeeeeeeeeal bad
