lately my playlist has consisted of --- mudvayne, shadows fall, children of bodom, metallica, ratm.. .. I'm trying to lengthen my music tastes though... so a list would be sweet

Children of Bodom:
Norther
Kalmah

Metallica:
Megadeth

Yeah, I'm lazy...go to R&M's recommendation thread and you'll get tons of responses for that stuff.

if you like some of those guys, these bands are all very heavy and very chaotic, but i love them

From A Second Story Window
Paria
Flesh And Blood Robot
Red Chord
Psyopus

all are amazing bands

metaliq 06-07-2005 03:37 PM

Dillinger Escape Plan
Psyopus (inspired by DEP :P)

Circle Takes The Square - awesomebandness totally! :) Amazing lyrics too.
MewithoutYou - Indieish... good band
bear vs. shark - once again, indieish, good band :)
Fugazi - who doesnt like fugazi?
Rites Of Spring - One of the firsterst "emo" bands?

There is a variety of bands to check out.
What do you guys think of Robyn Hitchcock? He did a lot of solo work but he was also the lead in The Soft Boys.
Does anybody here even know Hitchcock?

ah, you would like some metalcore, I would think. My personal favorites are Converge, Unearth, Every Time I Die, early Cave In, fordirelifesake, Poison the Well, old Norma Jean.

This list owned. Seriously, everyone check out these bands if you don't know them.

So met, you excited for Terrorhawk? It's going be awesome. I have '5, 6, Kids' on a sampler and I heard some of their new stuff at their show at bamboozle.

I like him as a writer and I respect his music but I never really got into him or the Soft Boys.

Wow, we need more voters in the professional lyrics thread. I better see all of your votes in by Monday.

Sloth 06-07-2005 08:44 PM

sweet, I'll (try to) check those bands out here soon..

ITRIEDVOODOOONCE 06-07-2005 09:04 PM

**** i forgot dillinger, thanks metaliq, and by the way, i saw FASSW last week with FABR, AMAZING SHOW!!

Not really. PsyOpus is straight crazy experimental technical stuff. They're mostly influenced by grindcore bands. DEP is a simpler tech metal band, but they haven't really influenced much of anyone yet. Though I love them both.

If you like either/both of those, check out Ed Gein, Converge, Napalm Death, Me And Him Call It Us, The Locust, bands like that.

ITRIEDVOODOOONCE 06-07-2005 10:15 PM

and dont forget the number 12, how could anyone forget them. Ion Dissonance is anotehr good one so is On broken wings.

Ah my bad subtle. I always thought I heard influence in their music, the whole "math metal" thing going on. Its all good, both good bands.

Also, what do you think of DEP live? Their new(er) vocalist kinda doesnt put on the best of a show live (show and vocals... sounded all the same, plus he swore at us :( ). The guitarist, on the other hand, controles the world. Them with ETID, Zao, and Misery Signals was worth the $10 though. :)

xKONRADx 06-07-2005 10:39 PM

metaliq, remember that video you sent me. was it of you?

Permanent Solution 06-07-2005 11:11 PM

SO I like how none of those bands are very similar to the ones he listed but...yeah.

I still haven't seen them live.

I was saying off of the list he gave most of the bands listed don't sound anything near. Most people make small leaps in music taste, not giant bounds. But meh, he can always try them out.

Guitar Symphony 06-07-2005 11:19 PM

ummm SubtleDagger, why did u lock my thread? I do write my own songs. But I was looking for a bit of community? Ya know, some good ol' fashion team work to come up with something brilliant. I guess Lyrics community doesn't need that since i'm sure your happy with all the metal/emo mix lyric crap that's been flooding this forum.

SubtleDagger 06-07-2005 11:21 PM

1) Read the rules. There's an announcement and you still can't seem to figure out how to read them.
2) Your thread was nonsense. You were basically telling people to send you song ideas according to your themes. Not happening.

According to my themes? I only suggested examples of things we could do. I never said it was my way or the high way. And I wasn't telling people to send me song ideas. I'm asking for collaboration here, not personal profit.

SubtleDagger 06-07-2005 11:26 PM

Your idea is awful.

The closest thing we have to that is Lyrical Challenges and that's way way way different. A bunch of random people collaborating on a song is just awful, it wouldn't work and is a bad idea.

I know for christ sakes. I've dealt with this forum a lot longer than you. Drop it.

Fine then. I hadn't broke any rules just as a minor note.
I'm sorry you think my idea is "awful". I personally think most of the people who know what they are doing when they really write good and orginal lyrics are bit more mature then most people and will get something done. But I'll drop it. Just for you.

SubtleDagger 06-07-2005 11:30 PM

Even aside from all that, I dislike the idea of someone getting a bunch of writers together to write 5-10 songs for him. That is obviously a bad idea.
Even aside from all that, I dislike the idea of someone getting a bunch of writers together to write 5-10 songs for him. That is obviously a bad idea.
It's not for me. I said it wasn't for my profit. It's for all our benefit. It's not like I am not working at all and have the the workers as my pawns to create something I didn't. Let me say the word again so you understand COLLABERATION.

Well duh, of couse I'm looking for people to collaberate with. How else am I supposed to get this together?

SubtleDagger 06-07-2005 11:57 PM

Nevermind, you missed the point by a mile. Forget it, it's not being done anyway.

Guitar Symphony 06-08-2005 12:03 AM
Nevermind, you missed the point by a mile. Forget it, it's not being done anyway.
Whatever man. Not hard feelins' or anything. I know what you where getting at but I still don't think you know I'm going for either. Oh well. I'm not gonna cry or anything that it didn't happen. It's done with.

SubtleDagger 06-08-2005 12:07 AM

Good. I can at least give you some credit for that.
