Everything they did is good, but AMLOR isn't as fantastic as other stuff.

Magicaltroll 12-02-2004 09:23 PM

i didnt like a momentary lapse in reason... it was weird for me

Johnny B. Good 12-02-2004 09:27 PM

It was probably different because w/out Waters, David Gilmour got to do whatever the hell he felt like doing

the psychedelic sound 12-02-2004 09:40 PM

The Gilmour sound is much better than the Waters sound IMO...The Wall (a la waters sound just did not seem floydian. Meddle is the floyd sound. :)

Kingofdudes 12-02-2004 10:00 PM

Thing is, Gilmour has never been as strong of a songwriter as Roger. But when it comes to the musical aspect Gilmour > Roger, every time.

I agree, Gilmour lacks in writing.

I picked up the Live in Pompeii, and wow. if you havent heard it, buy it. one of these days is badas*, echoes is my favorite. they added some cgi and made it much more of a stoner video than ever before.

abdab67 12-03-2004 08:29 PM

In my opinion the most haunting Pink Floyd song has got to be Jugband Blues. Basically Syd singing about being schizo for a few minutes.

MustkillLois6712 12-03-2004 10:31 PM

how exaclty does the wizard of oz with DSOTM work?

Broken Arrow 12-03-2004 10:34 PM

On the third roar of the MGM lion, you start the album. I think.

Roin McDink 12-03-2004 10:44 PM

i use to be scared to listen to pink floyd because all i listened to was the begginings of all the songs in dsotm

MetalpunKNinjA 12-03-2004 10:57 PM

If you can hear this, you are dying.

MustkillLois6712 12-03-2004 11:26 PM

I was recently having a discussion with somebody about pink floyd. He swore blind that pink floyd were an "old school punk band". Now usually I tend not to worry about labels as they tend to carry images with them and make music more of an elitist club than something for the enjoyment of the masses, but this statement confused me. To me pink floyd had always been prog rock, seemingly an almost complete opposite to anything punk. I asked him in what way he felt they were a punk band, but he seemed to think the answer was far to obvious to bother repeating to me, and then directed me here, telling me I'd learn something.

Now I don't consider myself an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but since I first heard my dad's copy of DSoTM so many years ago I've been getting my ears into everything of theirs I could find, but apparently I'm missing something. So, have I just missed an entire collection of little known pink floyd punk, or am I just so ignorant that I haven't realised I was listening to punk all these years?

Maybe in some of Gilmour's, and Water's bridges... such as that short, funky riff in Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2

hypocracy hater 12-04-2004 08:39 AM

Barrett is so UNDERtrated, IMO

lunch998 12-04-2004 08:42 AM

Don't worry about him, your true friends won't say that Pink Floyd is punk.

Hey, that can be pretty scary if you're not expecting it... :upset:

Nate22 12-04-2004 12:39 PM

I just got into Pink Floyd and they're awesome. I am looking for some more of their good songs though. Ones I know already are Dark Side of the Moon, Another Brick in the wall, and Comfortably Numb. What are some other good ones?

magicbus 12-04-2004 12:41 PM

Dark Side of the Moon is an album not a song.

And I love that ABITW pt 2 riff. Especially on the bridge pickup. I've been trying forever to get tone like Gilmours on SOYCD, but my guitar blows. Can't wait till I get that strat.

Nate22 12-04-2004 12:54 PM

What is that song that has the lyrics "dark side of the moon" in it then? And it starts out saying the lunatic is on the grass.

Well well, of course like all Floyd songs, thats not just the guitar making that sound...youve got a ton of effects

Compressor
Overdrive mid gain
Chorus
Phaser
Delay w/ low feedback
Reverb

Thats all the efects he uses for just the intro solo, but i dont know what their set on or what the tone on his guitar is set on. But still, its an incredible sound.

David Gilmour is a master at using his effects very well, alot of the guitar on Animals has cool effects too. :)

Riva 12-05-2004 03:22 AM

Well, it looks like two discussions have cropped up in the forum about Pink Floyd. I'm posting the links, but please try to discuss them in here, the official thread, rather than there, the illegal thread.

Philosophy of Dark Side Of The Moon

The Wall's Backup Singers (Those Kids)

Now, I know I have never pushed for this to be the sole place for PF discussion on MX, but I think since we are official, I will try to keep it all in here. So, I will be happy to discuss these things, just I will discuss them in here.
