Sorry for the delay, just got back from a weekend at a friends house with next to zero use of a computer. Yes I have, off of their split with the Vidablue. GREAT record in general.
Not as good as the s/t 7". |
The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower would be Screamo right?
|
The Plot are:
one cup early San Diego hardcore a la Swing Kids, two tablespoons of mod-ish screamy punk (Nation of Ulysses), a dash of jazz and a whole lotta sass! |
Torn, do you know how many Struggle releases there have been?
|
Four, I believe.
Lp on Ebullition 7" on Ebullition Track on the 'Give me Back' comp on Ebullition Split 7" with Undertow which was self-released Discography CD on Ebullition. |
Uhh, five.
I love it, I think its way beyond The Satellite Years, maybe even The Frailty of Words.
Yeah, I hated it at first, but now I'm in love with it. I think I may have to even agree on that better than The Satellite Years comment. |

Agreed. They didn't release enough. |
I just got out Broke Up by 1.6 Band for the first time in months. Every time I listen to this I get a bit angrier.
|
I love it, I think its way beyond The Satellite Years, maybe even The Frailty of Words.
i'm surprised to see that. to me, the frailty of words, no wings to speak of, and the satellite years are so much better than a types. but the frailty of words is by far the best to me. |
Hey guys, what genre would you say Funeral for a Friend are?
|
Well, that's just like...your opinion, man.
i know. that's why i said "to me." its just surprising that the underoath guys are sell-outs for getting softer, but hopesfall just "found their sound." not that i'm saying hopesfall sold out, i don't think they did, but i don't think underoath did either. |
Hey guys, what genre would you say Funeral for a Friend are?
well, they say they are Post Hardcore / Metal. so take that for what you will. |
I, Robot and Get ****ed are screamo.
|
Hopesfall didn't "find a sound." In case you didn't notice, this album is a very plausible progression from The Satellite Years. The songs are still complex and intense but this time around instead of screaming with a melodic vocal line every so often, they sing the whole time. There's nothing poppy or sell out with singing. Underoath changed away from Christian black metal to pop punk. I mean they even scream more than Hopesfall but have clearly sold themselves beyond anything Hopesfall did on the past album.
Underoath were black metal?? The only (older) Underoath I have heard is 'When The Sun Sleeps' and is that really Black Metal? |
Act Of Depression is black metal.
I, Robot and Get ****ed are screamo.
Thanks. |
haha I might get flamed for this but I like the blood brothers and they are like emo/screamo
|
Though they some screamo influence, they are primarily a hardcore/indie band.
|

How is that not finding a sound? Yeah, they retained a ton of the Satellite Years elements on the new album, they just added melodies and some simpler song structure. I always felt Satellite Years was missing something, and I think what they added on A Types was that something. |
Though they some screamo influence, they are primarily a hardcore/indie band.
I think they have way more screamo influence than they do hardcore. |

you're saying that a types is a plausible progression from the satellite years, but so is they're only chasing safety from when the sun sleeps, where the rest of the guys got more of their way. and how is underoath pop punk. do you guys really act this elitist in real life??? this quote makes me think of you guys, "And as far as kids saying we’ve sold out…kids like that just like to talk." |
From "Where the Sun Sleeps", yes. One song. With the exceptions of maybe "Letting Go of Tonight" and the title track, the rest of the CD is pretty different from that song.
|
I'm listening to 'Heart of Stone' by Underoath now. Is that song black metal?
|

you're right. i'm just giving it as an example to show that they did start that sound and many in the band wanted that sound before they started work on they're only chasing safety. its not even my favorite from that cd. i like angel below best. on a different subject. i liked the stuff from a day in black and white on their purevolume page that was posted in this thread and downloaded some other stuff from them and checked out their website. this was on there, it has nothing to do with anything, but i thought it was funny how they wrote it. "12/30/05 Steve managed to find our van while looking for a parking spot. Thanks for keeping your eyes peeled; no thanks to whoever stole our sweet jambox and smoked crack in the backseat however." |
Let's not talk about Hopesfall.
|
Why?
|
Because I think they're a boring band.
|
Hopesfall kicks it. The Satellite Years is flawed true, but I think it's still stands as a very good album even with the incohesive flow and such.
|
After sifting through the glaring grammatical errors, I'm going to have to guess that that is a criticism of the way I post here. Changing of Times to They're Only Chasing Safety is not the progression that they sold out on. It was earlier when they went to the much poppier style on Changing of Times. Also here, "sold out," is a weird term because they got many new members. I guess the main problem is that the members that stayed consented to such a change and in fact welcomed it as shown by allowing the new members and new style.
Oh ya. I am this elitist in real life because I really do care about it this much. Everybody has their thing. My youngest brother is addicted to WWE. My middle brother is addicted to Socom II. My dad is addicted to sugar free popsicles. My mom is addicted to shitty Colin Firth movies. I am addicted to music. If you were to suggest that Love Actually actually wasn't a good movie, you'd have some crap to deal with with my mom right? If you ate the last popsicle you'd have to deal with somebody who practically needs them. If you're going to be a douche around music, I'm going to be an elitist about it because it's that important to me.
Wait, so you're saying that Changing of Times was poppy? Maybe on like one or two songs, but from that to They're Only Chasing Safety was a huge leap, I think. |
