Hells Bells 11-15-2005 08:29 PM

I found that tab and it sounded kinda off when I first tried it, but if you learned the song and tab's worked for you, I'll give it another shot.

Thanks a lot :)
Good man. Much better then Godheads Lament, eh?? :D
NO!!!

Gah, you crazy Kanaduh guy with your false opinions.

Spinal Pap 11-15-2005 09:17 PM

I can't get into Godhead's Lament for some reason. It's a good song for the most part, but I just don't like the riff at the beginning of the song. The rest is great, but that first part kind of kills it for me.

So, YDLoad needs a mini bio done on Mikael Akerfeldt for Poll C of the Vocalists competition. Could someone get on this very quickly?

i am the robots 11-15-2005 09:54 PM

I put one in the community thread, should i post it there?

Killtacular 11-15-2005 09:56 PM

"Mikael Åkerfeldt was born on April 17, 1974, in Stockholm, Sweden. He is currently famously known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of Opeth. Mikael was the vocalist for Eruption, a death metal band which he formed in 1988. After Eruption died in 1990, He founded Opeth as a bassist, together with David Isberg on vocals. When David left Opeth, Mikael replaced him as a vocalist and also took guitar duties.

Among metal fans, Mikael is noted for his exceptionally strong, progressive-rock-influenced songwriting style, and his ability to sing very proficiently in both a melodic tone and a harsh growl. Certainly one of the best vocalists in metal today. His death growls on Blackwater Park were wonderfully done and very difficult to match, and his vocal performances on Damnation are enough to swoon even the angriest teenage girls."

I got most of it from Wikipedia, changed it around a little, and added a few sentences.

I'm surprised someone didn't jump on it right away. I was so ashamed to check that thread and see that Laiho didn't have one.

lost_profits 11-15-2005 11:59 PM

Flynn, I always thought it was just a lightly strummed acoustic guitar. It's very very faint whatever it is. And it meshes in so well with the song.

Which Poll is Mike Patton going to be in? I sure don't want Akerfeldt and Patton in the same poll.

Det_Nosnip 11-16-2005 05:14 AM

That would be very easy for me. As much as I admire Patton for his versatility and unique style...he doesn't really excite me all that much, other than as a curiosity.

Same with me. He can do some fantastic thing but =/= good music all the time.

still life remains my favourite, although i need to listen to orchid, morningrise, my arms your hearse and deliverance alot more.

deliverance is my favourite track for the moment.
fvucking class that song..!

the acoustic stuff from orchid and morningrise owns me though.
goosebumpville.

they better to come back to aus.. }:.

EDIT: does anyone know where i can get opeth wallpapers similar to ElectricalStorm and fukifiknow's avatars? or any decent opeth wallpapers in general..?

the2stranger 11-16-2005 12:10 PM
Are you talking about the sound that is kind of like piano-ish? To me it always sounded like a piano note.
it's synthesizer! ;)

spacemanjack 11-16-2005 12:16 PM

no way guys.....its his finger moving down a wound acoustic string. Without a doubt.

Stormrider 11-16-2005 02:35 PM

I heard one song from him. Pig latin. That song is with Lamb of god I think...
Its ok I guess.
My avatar's actually from the back of Deliverance.

The Moor owns. Possibly the best metal song ever made (though Face of Melinda is still my personal favorite)
That song is now probably one of my favorite Opeth songs Ive heard. Its just awsome. Especailly the acoustics. Although the whole song is realy good.

JamJar 11-16-2005 03:32 PM

Woohoo!

I'll probably be going to see Opeth live in Exeter!!! :D

Kaiwaz 11-16-2005 05:59 PM

So has anyone recorded the tail end of By The Pain I See In Others and play it backwards yet? If not, download Audacity, it's free and pretty decent for messing around with tracks. You gotta hear it backwards!

Darkness 11-16-2005 06:01 PM

I did, I could just upload mine now if anybody wants.

Stormrider 11-16-2005 06:08 PM

Which Opeth album has the most acoustics ?
Not nessacarily ballads, just acoustic passages in the songs.

Sry for the change of subject...

Damnation pretty much is all acoustic/clean guitar.

vashts80 11-16-2005 06:25 PM

The end of "By the Pain I See in Others" is cool, the echoing Master's Apprentices clean verse :o

I went to check on the Opeth official site and i saw that Death whispered a lullaby is on Damnation. Fro some reason, Im not to fond of that song. Havnt listened to it in a while though but I dunno about you guys, but i kind of find that song a lil boring...

But on the other hand, i love In My Time Of Need. I love the atmoshere that song creates.

Exactly the same with me, that song isn't that special to me, but In My Time Of Need is brilliant.

Stormrider 11-16-2005 07:10 PM

I would get Damnation just for that song...Havnt heard ther others though...except after I get Orchid, im gunna start looking for Still Life: The Moor and Serenity Painted Death. I love both those songs. Especialy the Moor.

I just did that. That is some pretty crazy stuff!

Death Whispered a Lullaby is awesome...I can't understand why nobody likes that song. WAYY better than IMTON.

I never got into In My Time Of Need. Death Whispered A Lullaby is pretty cool though. That Master's Apprentices chorus is tight, eh? I remember the first time I heard that, I was like ''Ohhhhhhh THAT'S what he's saying! Nice
;)

Stormrider 11-16-2005 07:31 PM

The whole of Masters Apprentice is awsome.
" There is a voice calling for meeee"
"There is a riot falling down on meee"

I really like the clean guitars in that song...

In Mist She Was Standing has an brilliant outro...

Shattered_Future 11-16-2005 07:58 PM

I can't STAND In My Time Of Need. The verses piss me off so much...they have absolutely no redeeming qualities, and completely bastardize any shred of liking I had for that song.

Death Whispered A Lullaby I like...favorites off that album are Windowpane and Hope Leaves though.

Oriah 11-16-2005 08:00 PM

yeah it does...

Lately I have been listening to BWP while driving home from my campus...and I just roll the windows down and let it sing to the world ..god i love it
