Those were the days, eh? Back when you could post and get a reply in about 2/3 mins....

Even if you did have to put up with the odd shread/dropping coffee coup/3,000 CDs thread...

Squirrel 07-03-2011 11:06 AM

I remember when you literally couldn't keep up with this thread.

I wonder why the forums died off, I can understand members leaving but how come new ones never join[ed]? The general ethos of the place seems to have changed but that may well be due to me being significantly older now ..

The_Mop 07-03-2011 11:11 AM

Yeah, tbh, it's kinda a shame. I learnt a shitload of stuff from this forum. It has kinda died a death...

Recently joined up at sevenstring.org - even though the activity is there, everything split into so many subforums it's hard to manage where/when you posted.

Blue_Moon 07-03-2011 11:51 AM

ah people got old! and youtube, facebook and twitter raped every internet site

jus not the same

3rd day in a row drinkin after doing the same last weekend, not fun, but weather is fantastic

Squirrel 07-03-2011 11:53 AM

I remember the days when next to none of us had equipment and seemingly EVERYONE was "ignorant" to so much. Remember how people went crazy over peoples sloppy renditions of Sea of Lies and stuff? Now you go on YouTube and theres 13 year olds playing it perfectly.

I'm positive that the internet with tabs, videos, forums etc made a massive impact on peoples playing (maybe not their musicianship, possibly the opposite..).

Blue_Moon 07-03-2011 11:57 AM

probably demeaned a lot of people starting off playing guitar since you see 5 year old asian kids playing amazing shit flawless on youtube, its to easy to waste time randomly online at least when i had dial up i disconnected after each use of the internet, now its on everywhere 24/7 its gettin outa hand

SugarCoatedSour 07-03-2011 03:37 PM

yargh, this has now been lumped in as one of the many associative distractions. I personally view it this way, and have been hard pressed to actually learn and make use of the nets other than finding out about music worth listening to and the occasional flashback of actual interaction.

Bruce E Kinesis 07-03-2011 04:47 PM

There's real site attached to these forums and no advertising of it anywhere

purple_hazer 07-04-2011 12:18 PM

true, and i bet most of the OG posters all came here through mxtabs. i mean, posters have been calling everyone here MXicans for years

Matt? 07-04-2011 06:01 PM

i came here through mxtabs way back in 04 i think and was a pretty regular poster in here back in the day as "floydfanatic" but then i stopped posting really... came back and it's really empty and mostly dumb people sadly

TBH there was just one dumb person.

SugarCoatedSour 07-05-2011 08:57 AM

we now need to declare honesty, in such times where lies and deceit are commonplace. TBH everything else is a lie.

Sad But True 07-05-2011 09:12 AM

You're a lie.

S'up lod.

Got back from Sonisphere this morning at half 2. Was a good day, saw 'The Big 4' and Diamond Head and The Black Dahlia Murder. Couldnt get into the tent to watch Protest The Hero, which was a little annoying.

I also got to see James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine hug onstage. Brilliant.

anyone been there, any valuable info i should be aware of?

Sad But True 07-14-2011 05:30 PM

It's in America, which means that you may come across a large animal known as an 'American'.

Blue_Moon 07-14-2011 05:35 PM

indeeedyyyyy

what bothers me most is the 100$ fee just to get it looked at, and of course the need of a TOEFL course score... I come from a natively English speaking land of mystery

I asked do you speak a my language

he just smiled and gave me

a Vegemite, sandwich

It certainatly is - tbh, my rig hasn't changed much. Still GT-8 to PC. bought a 7 string back in 07, bought a fretless bass in 08 and a couple of synth bits and bobs but in terms of guitar, nothing new since 07 :P Hows about your good self? Still got that incredibly thick green carpet? :P

Been doing loads of recording though. Check http://soundcloud.com/vector-monitor for a couple of examples :P

Strangely enough I've only just got my recording rig set up tonight in my new place. Hopefully will record some more stuff in the next few weeks.

Daniel K 07-14-2011 11:21 PM

Nice, I'll check it out, I moved into a new place about 2 years ago and never had internet, so no more MX for me. Finally had ATT TV and internet installed. I'm rockin my USA tele through my carvin legacy with a budah wah. These forums kinda just died a little huh?

The_Mop 07-15-2011 12:46 AM

Most definitely dead. Had a slight resurgence a number of months ago, but thats about it. This is more or less the only reasonably active thread in the whole guitar forum :p

Left Face Down 07-15-2011 04:05 AM
I'm rockin my USA tele
Telecasters are kinda growing on me. Always thought I'd be a Stratocaster kinda guy as I grew up listening to Eric Clapton. Something about the lip-stick pickup just tells my mind, "this sounds better". Doesn't really matter if it does or doesn't. Most likely more towards the latter.

guitarbaz 07-15-2011 04:46 AM

Tele's are guitars you need to play if you don't want to look like a cunt playing a strat. Which most people do, apart from maybe Gilmour.

That said I once had an electric blue squire strat. no idea what i was thinking...

Sad But True 07-15-2011 05:03 AM

Hey now my strat isnt that bad

Wait yes it is it's a candy red squier with chunks of paint missing and the insides gutted.
