I know exactly the mood you're in. I've been listening to Prefuse 73 and cLOUDDEAD for the same reasons. |
I saw Protest The Hero last night. They weren't bad.
I realized I really only liked their new album for like, 2 days. |

Just got it and I'm loving it. JonM check your mali thread. |

Think kraftwerk and meets Mogwai during Come On Die Young.

Smog - A River Ain't Too Much To Love (great video from this record)
Smog is fantastic. Have you heard Knock Knock? Amazing story telling and instrumentation. Listenign to Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines Erid Dolphy - Out To Lunch |
Jon Poole - What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body?
I'm not the biggest Zappa fan (one album and a bunch of downloaded tracks, so far), but this sounds pretty good so far. Especially considering the equipment he had with which to make it. |
I'm downloading Marquee Moon now. I'm sure I'll enjoy it :)
|
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
That's a sweet album. I would never be able to describe Boards Of Canada for someone who had never heard of them.
I'm downloading Marquee Moon now. I'm sure I'll enjoy it :)
Oh, you will. If you're anything like me. Which you aren't. :-/ |
Perfect Speed by 13 & God is a good song.
I've been listening to The Unicorns, Casino Versus Japan, and some Ben Folds song about my city. |
Patti Smith - Horses
Black Flag - In My Head |
Sabnack, a really rockin' band from Osaka, Japan.
I saw them at my local venue tonight and was moved to dance like a criminal. |

Nujabes - Modal Soul
Nujabes new cd, my friend in Japan just sent it to me. Metaphorical Music pales in comparison. My pick for album of the year. Also M. Ward - Transistor Radio |
I'm downloading Marquee Moon now. I'm sure I'll enjoy it :)
One and a half songs in and it already kicks ass. People who know how to play their instruments = |
fIREHOSE - Ragin' Full On
Broken Social Scene - EP To Be You and Me |
I'd say quite a bit of Sigur Ros and Slint. I'm thinking of buying Slint on Vinyl, seeing as I just saw it at the brand new record store in my neighborhood. I'm not sure if it's really a good idea, seeing as I'm not really a vinyl collector. Wish I was, though.

I'm starting to think The Sidewinder is one of my favourite jazz albums (although I'm not exactly an expert). Once my internet is back to its proper speed I will go on a downloading spree. |
Michael Gira & Dan Matz - What We Did
Maureen Tucker - Playin' Possum |
Captain Beefheart

It's a hot one. If you dig Lee's style (as you seem to), I would recommend some Clifford Brown & Max Roach recordings, if you've got none. Clifford was the king of hard-bop trumpet. He's got less of that SOUL feel that Lee does well, but he's truly astounding. Most trumpet players exposed to Brownie's short career in the 50s took on his style. There's more great Lee on Moanin' and A Night In Tunisia by Art Blakey, as well as his own Cornbread. |

Just picked up Ryan Adams - Jacksonville City Nights. Sounds great. I like some songs more than others. It's a totally pure country album though, so it'll probably have to grow on me a bit. Can't wait for 29.

Miles Davis - Birth Of the Cool

I've been finding Toots & The Maytals really exciting lately. I'm very much a roots reggae kind of guy, but the little something extra in their tunes, also in some Peter Tosh tunes, really works for me, know what I'm sayin?
