Why would you tune like that?
It throws out all regular ideas of music theory and enables you to make something unpredictable. Also you get nice droning harmonics.

Went to see Bloc Party last night. Really enjoyed it, they put on a really good show. I have a newfound appreciation for them :)

I saw them here last year (someone managed to rope them into playing at our city's annual jazz and blues festival), and really enjoyed their show.

It doesn't remove any music theory it just removes the shapes you are used to from standard tuning.

Is it F#s at the low strings or high strings?

I'd be interested to know the octave layout of those F#s because it sounds like a hard one to get the strings to accept.

funkyhoney 10-12-2009 12:20 AM

Sounds like a stupid one to get the strings to accept to me.

gaslight 10-12-2009 02:23 AM

New bass has arrived.

funkyhoney 10-12-2009 02:30 AM

Low strings are all tuned to F#, and the same pitch as well, I think - guitarist's job, really. He's a huge sonic youth fan. We've also been working in C#, G#, C#, F#, C#, C# on a more doomy track.

And you're right, it doesn't remove theory, but it makes it really hard to use standard theory and make a predictable track... you'd probably call that bad practice though and you're probably right.:thumb:

It was't that much. The roast was less than a kilo, so it was only about $10. It's enough for one good meal, and maybe a tasty sandwich later.

It was immensely delicious, though. It was so juicy. Cooking with beef broth ftw.

I'm sad about missing your Thanksgiving, though, but I was just not going to be able to make it up. :upset:

Those are shitty-ass pictures, but the bass looks sweet, man. Nice rig, too.

funkyhoney 10-12-2009 08:19 AM

Looks sick dude! Where did you get it from, and how much?

How you taking getting used to it? :p

lemoley 10-12-2009 08:20 AM

nice set up, esp. like the flame maple

gaslight 10-12-2009 08:21 AM

Cheers man.

It's a lot easier to play than I thought the jump from a 4 to 6 would be. Definitely a novelty to have two octave scales playable without a shift.

RRP 1895 I got it for 1500 at my local store, West Ryde Music Workshop.

lemoley 10-12-2009 08:26 AM

how are the barts?
