Agreed, I don't understand at all where these metalcore comparisons are coming from. God forbid a band should tune to drop C and be anything but metalcore.

I don't think Alexi is doing any of those things you mentioned. Stepping down in technicality? Not in the least. He may place less emphasis on lead guitar and not use any classical elements, but listen to the riffing. They're probably more technical then anything he's done in the past.

Outside this thread, there is no fanboyism really. I read around and all I hear about is how it sucks, which does irritate me. I would like the music no matter what artist put it out because it appeals to me, but because it was done by CoB. I haven't heard a single NWOAHM person say they improved with the new album like you said. All I see are a lot of people who lost faith in them and a core group of old fans who still like it.

But instances like these only support my theory that many people will hate anything a band puts out if it's a drastic change from their old style.
if you dont like what a band is putting out, stop complaining and listen to something else

I for one, am not like this. I just find this album to be extremely bland and boring, nothing is really memorable for me on the album. It goes through one ear and out the other, which is a sign to me that it isn't very good from my perspective.

I also agree on the metalcore comments about the album, I don't see where those come from.

Anywho...

I got back from the show, and Children of Bodom were good and all, but the crowd spoiled the show for me.

blue3 11-24-2005 03:37 AM

How did the crowd spoil the show..?

I saw CoB last night (in portland) with trivium and amon amarth.
It was amazing. Alexi is just as good live as on CD. During CoB I was right up against the stage with only a couple people ahead me (didn't matter I'm 6'3 I can see over anyone lol)

The show was insane.

Amon Amarth was really good. Plain heavy, no lead though. They played I think 5 or 6 songs, and ended with this one called "Death by fire". It was really good.

Trivium was as advertised you could say.

Heafy told people to get violent even though half the crowd was 12 13 and 14 KIDS. I guess start em young.
I flipped off Heafy and the lead guitarist everytime they looked my way.
Inbetween songs I and a few people near my yelled things like,

"play slayer"
"we want real metal"
etc
Trivium hit alot of bum notes on their solos, and the songs were played so heavy they sounded like a mess.

F on the report card.

Children of Bodom. Wow.
Everything was top notch.

They played "are you dead yet". Which made me happy.

They didn't play.
"mask of sanity" "Warheart" "bed of razors"

I'm not complaining but those would have been nice too!
ha.

The keyboard playing was great and they did a soloing dual which was neat.

All in all.

It's worth my ears still ringing and my neck barely able to move!

Amon Amarth was by far the best band on the bill, they should have had more time to play. Viking metal > all

And they play melodic death metal by the way.

And what do you mean no lead?

This is the reason the crowd spoiled the show for me, there was a ton of little kids there trying to think they were some hardcore metal fan, it was annoying.

That and the fact there was to many people at the venue made it body to body in the standing area since every one was a retard and has to either push forward or backwards so they can get closer to the band.

It was like that the whole time through Bodom, and it spoiled the show as I could not even watch them play.

And the amount of people that showed up for Amon Amarth really pissed me off. The shows usually don't fill up until the second band hits, the place was half full by the time the gates were open for a half hour...

That soloing duel was quite boring, as it lasted way to long then it should have.

And what was with the show only lasting to 11:30? They should have allowed more time for Amon Amarth to play if they were quitting that early...

But ya, there were to many "new" CoB kiddy fans and alot of Trivium kiddies there, ruined the show imo.

chorbalan 11-24-2005 03:44 PM

I saw COB in Vancouver on the 22nd, It was great.

Amon Amarth opened up, it was my first time seeing them or hearing them, they were great. The Lead singer worked the croud well and had an awesome viking horn cup he drank out of after every song.

Trivium came out and they were not bad in my oppinion. They played pretty well the only thing I would complain about is the fact that Heafy kept leaving the microphone stand in the middle of singing which was annoying. He got the croud pretty roudy and got them to start a circle pit (like he does at EVERY SHOW  ) Apperantly a lot of people dislike them, this didn't seem to be the case at the show. They did allright in my opinion. I still liked Amon Amarth better.

Then It took COBs crew FOREVER to set up, everyone kept chanting "BODOM". Finally they came out and had a spectacular show. They played some of my favourite songs, Needled 24/7, Hatecrew Deathroll and Everytime I Die. After they said they were done they played three more songs. Alexi and Janne had a big solo duel which was pretty cool. Overall the show was great like people said above it was well worth my ears ringing and my neck sore the next day.

Taste_My_Scythe 11-24-2005 05:21 PM

I'm going to Bodom...I'm going to Bodom....I'm going to Bodom.
December 5th at The Masquerade in Tampa.

\m/

I can't ****ing wait.

How is the HateCrew? I apologize for my absence...I've been so freaking busy with...everything.

I'm Charming 11-24-2005 05:58 PM

There were so many little kids it was annoying. People just thought trivium were god or something. It was mind blowing how anyone could have thought that.

Bobo, Which show were you at? What city?

It was body to body during the first couple CoB shows and I pushed my way to the front. I had a couple people ahead of me but that didn't matter because I'm 6'3. After the first couple songs though it wasn't uncomfterble.

Why go to a show if your just gonna stand there?

I was at the Portland show last night.

For the songs that I stayed in the crowd with, it was body to body constant pushing back and forth, it was getting old. I want to enjoy watching the band, not have a pushing match with the guy in front of me every few seconds due to the crowd being retarded.

Hells Bells 11-24-2005 06:10 PM

It's no fun when you're focusing more of your energy and attention on keeping your spot/not getting crushed than on actually enjoying the show. When I saw them, it was better later on during the night...people eventually got sick of pushing and stopped.

HUGE 123, I jumped out of the pit for Slipknot because of that. I thought I was going to punch someone. Good job I'd already seen em otherwise I'd be PISSED.

That's too bad. At the Detroit show the crowds were downright violent for Trivium but were headbanging for CoB. There was some movement but I still got to watch the band.

Mauled By Jesus 11-24-2005 08:24 PM

I had plans see CoB in Philly in december, but my parents have decided not to let me go because it's metal.

Words can't describe how pissed off I right now. I've been looking forward to CoB coming somewhere near me forever and now my parents are being assholes.

blue3 11-24-2005 08:25 PM

What the hell? So what if it's metal.

My parents think only drunks and drug users go to these kinds of shows. They think it'll be too dangerous.

The area around harpos was scary...the worst ghetto ive ever seen...we stopped by a gas station and the guy was behind bulletproof glass.

It is scary. We got lost on the way too. :( We had to stop and ask for directions, but luckily we had two formidable looking guys with us. Harpo's looks like it hasn't been renovated in 20 years - I laugh everytime I see it.

 it was funny when some random person would try to get up on the stage, and the stage crew would have to push them off. Btw, did you happen to notice the enormous size of the reverse cymbal one of the local bands had? I swear that thing must have had twice the diameter of a ride cymbal...

No, do you remember which band it was? We came in during a local band from our town of Toledo. They're a melodic death band. Was one of the guitarists a long-haired guy with a bullet belt and the other a pretty heavy guy? We only got to see that band and the one after it, who seemed like a terrible thrash band with an insane shredder.

I thought it was hilarious when people would get up on stage during the show. Did you see the one (I think it was during Trivium) who got up and a security guy just shoved him right off the edge? There was also one during Amon Amarth where three guys tried to tackle one who climbed up. Damn that was a good show.

It was the last local band that played i think...it was the one without a screamy singer...the guitar player on the left was left handed and i think he had some sort of V...they also had a heavyset drummer, and the biggest cymbal ive ever seen :amaze:
