WTF!

**handstand**

FunkMetalBass 02-16-2010 02:47 PM

So, is DKFH fairly straightforward to use? I've got a quick track I want to lay down before it leaves my mind and I want to record it to drums.

fatbandit 02-16-2010 04:58 PM

dude, we got something else sorted in the meantime D:

ta though ^_^

gonna be offline for 3 weeks from the start of march while we record our album in a residential studio down south. going to be wicked cool

gaslight 02-16-2010 06:53 PM
Well, I'll have 3 stacked knobs, one push/pull, and 2 switches.
So the stacked ones are where you hide the settings for the trem?

gaslight 02-16-2010 06:56 PM
Well the thing about valves being fragile is an odd one. I've never broken one through transit in the last 5 years I've been using valves in my amps, but I take care of my stuff. Bottom line is don't drop anything. If I used a transistor head, I wouldn't want to drop that, and I'd be just as worried about dropping that as I would a valve head. As for having a valve amp stood on its end? That just wouldn't happen if I'm around D:

My amp is still a (hefty) one hand carry, and I had the money free from selling my old amp and pedals, so I didn't see a problem with dropping a lot of money on a really nice head.
I wouldn't mind trying an all tube head, the Aguilar DB750 I would have liked to get but was a lot of money, like $4000+ plus here when I was looking for a rig. The DB751 is only around $4000 these days though, that's tube pre-amp and MOSFET power-amp, or the Thunderfunk is just under $3G. That said, I can't afford anything of that nature for a while :(.

Convectuoso 02-16-2010 10:49 PM

DKFH is extremely simple to use. Quite hard to get sounding *really* good.

But yeah just write open a virtual instrument track in Audition, then insert DKFH on the track and write the beats in the MIDI editor. Should be pretty simple. Never used Audition though, it's real simple in Cubase 5 though.

Sablate McNuff 02-17-2010 12:07 AM
So the stacked ones are where you hide the settings for the trem?
Yep.

The pots will be: Vol/Vol, Bass/Treble, Mid (push-pull 400k/800k), Trem Depth/Trem Rate

The switches will be: Mute, Trem On/Off

Sweetness. I'll have to try it out.

blacklungfever 02-17-2010 01:00 PM
Meh. I'd still rather have a real one. It's partly mental, but having something without the full body to it just wouldn't feel right.
it's true though. EUBs just don't feel the same, or sound the same. They're not really all that comparable, to be honest.

fatbandit 02-17-2010 01:04 PM

I have no idea how AUS dollars relate to USD or to GBP either for that matter. So that sounds expensive ;p FWIW, my Matamp was about £1300. For a hand built point to point wired amp made with the appearance you want. That's about the same price as a mass produced, foreign built Orange amp of the same size.

BenJammin 02-17-2010 01:08 PM

Yeah, I would definitely believe that. Playing an EUB is just like playing a bit, upright electric fretless.

You play DB, don't you? I seem to remember that from before.

AUS and CAD are roughly the same, IIRC. But Australia residents get f**ked over. Everything is twice as expensive over there and costs 5x as much to ship to and from.

FunkMetalBass 02-17-2010 02:18 PM

Holy Bajeebus. I just ordered an EMG 45P, Nordstrand NJ4SV, and Aguilar OBP-3 from BestBassGear and 55 minutes after my order was placed, I got my UPS tracking number.

Outstanding. I may get these in by Friday and then I can start the install. :)

fatbandit 02-17-2010 02:59 PM

That would be really useful if I knew what a Canadian dollar was worth either XD

Efrim 02-17-2010 04:00 PM

a few cents less than the American dollar.

gaslight 02-17-2010 06:04 PM

That's basically it.

For a common example, a Fender American Standard J or P Bass here will set you back ~$3000, shelf price.

I ordered a shirt from America and the shipping cost more than the shirt did .

fatbandit 02-17-2010 07:05 PM

oh em gee.

a US standard P would be like £1000 here? so i guess that's like $1700. so you boys are getting shafted :/

gaslight 02-17-2010 07:08 PM

Yeah. It costs a lot to ship anything here and musical instruments have a hefty import tax to boot.

blacklungfever 02-17-2010 11:34 PM

I do, I'm studying jazz performance at U of T. It's the best.
Yeah. It costs a lot to ship anything here and musical instruments have a hefty import tax to boot.
Yep. That's why, whenever possible, I try to help the Aussies out. Prices for pickups are almost 3x as much as here in the U.S., so if you ever want some, let me know and I'll buy them and ship them. I'm sure I could get them to you for almost half of what you guys pay.

let them rot.

BenJammin 02-18-2010 05:27 PM
let them rot.
Mostly.

So, when do you go home for the summer?

Efrim 02-18-2010 06:35 PM

My home is pretty much here now, so who knows if I'll go back at all.
Unless that's where I get a job, though I've put in applications around the city, and in Vancouver as well. We'll see.

My last exam is over on the 30th of April. Blegh.

Efrim 02-18-2010 08:48 PM

Holy shit.
I just won the challenge to redesign my campus bar.
Wicked awesome.

pukeboy66 02-18-2010 09:33 PM

Will it now exclusively serve Jameson?

Sablate McNuff 02-18-2010 11:22 PM
the preamp in my bass is deaddddd
What's wrong with it?
I'll buy it off you.
Will it now exclusively serve Jameson?
I've got an unopened bottle of that in my freezer right now next to and unopened bottle of Bailey's. I've got some Irish stout that I brewed up a couple weeks back in my fridge. Irish Car Bombs this weekend? I think so.

:amaze: 02-18-2010 11:42 PM

screw the bailey's though. real men don't water their jameson down with it.

last time i did those i **** clovers for a week!

funkyhoney 02-19-2010 07:53 AM

Eh, I'm not a huge Bailey's fan. I do put it on icecream sometimes though  hilarity ensues. Jameson is delcious though, I had a bottle of 12yo a while back which was pretty great.

gaslight 02-19-2010 08:07 AM

Yeah Bailey's is more of a confectionery.

Sablate McNuff 02-19-2010 08:36 AM
Yeah Bailey's is more of a confectionery.
I bought it for 1) my coffee at work :), and 2) Irish car bombs.

wheeee!

gaslight 02-19-2010 08:43 AM

You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

Efrim 02-19-2010 11:46 AM
Will it now exclusively serve Jameson?
No. Because Jameson is the inferior Irish whiskey. Tullamore Dew, with Redbreast and Black Bush for the discerning.

I knew that'd get to you. Don't make me start on my liquor debates again.

Gattsu347 02-19-2010 07:04 PM

Im writing an album.

Im moving into triphop/not crazy dubstep/sex music/hint of metal

funkyhoney 02-20-2010 09:18 AM

So, played an acoustic gig tonight. Was very... different.

It's not even a debate.

:amaze: 02-20-2010 07:07 PM

i drank some lime vodka with orange juice and squirt last night and it tasted like fruity pebbles.

funkyhoney 02-21-2010 08:37 AM

I drank too much bourbon and got diarrhoea.

True story.

FunkMetalBass 02-23-2010 08:37 AM

Woot! My pedalboard is almost done - I should be able to finish it tonight. All I need to do now is put the carpet & velcro on it, then attach my pedals and away I go!
