Completely disagree with ya' on that one Zaphoid.
Who do you nominate in their place? Anyone? Or do you just generally disagree with the idea that TH ruled. |
No no, I'm quite a Talking Heads fan myself, but I think that's a pretty huge call to make. I wouldn't call them the best band to come out of the 70's.
If I was to pick (and this is hard) I'd probably go with someone like Television, Patti Smith or the Buzzcocks. I dunno though, it's near impossible to make a call like that accurately. |
Talking Heads is the best band to come out the 70s, in my opinion. What do you think?
That depends on how you classify "to come out of the 70s." If it means they released their debut album in the 70s, then I'd agree that Talking Heads are the best. But if it means they had their prime in the 70s, I'd go with Bowie. |
Actually yeah, add Bowie and the Modern Lovers to my list. I'd pick Bowie as the most important of that era.
|
Pfft. You can't call Converge a metal band. Well not metal in the same vein as the 'Don. I knows me metal, so don't you argue boy!

Say they're you're favourite, not the best band to come out of the 70's.
To each his own, blah blah blah. ihQThgpijnwrgpwr[oih wrpijbrgptiurwehtv\ tp4iun34pitu (/typing with tongue\) wiufwpiuegfv |
Joy Division - Closer
Yo La Tengo - Painful Minutemen - The Punch Line |
Medications
|
Not in the same vein, but throat-shredding head-crushing rock is still metal in my book.
In that case I would probably put DEP ahead of anyone else. Then again, I should really just listen to Converge because any metal band good enough for you has to be pretty damn good. |
Patti Smith - Horses
I want the new 2-disc version of this. |

And as they say, opinions are like assholes. |

It's great. The Durutti Column - The Return Of The Durutti Column |

I'm going to go on record saying that Jane Doe is the most powerful metal album ever. Literally ever. I can't listen to it for too long or my ears hurt.
Neat. I listened to the 30-second allmusic.com sample of the first song and I contended that it would be a lot of fun to listen to (albeit painful). In other insane band news, my brother is going to a show tonight: DEP, HORSE the band, and BTBAM. Must be fun. |
Mission of Burma - Vs.
Mission of Burma - ONoffON I actually enjoy ONoffON more. Something must be wrong with me. |

Mission of Burma - ONoffON I actually enjoy ONoffON more. Something must be wrong with me.
I've been meaning to get into Mission Of Burma. They're kinda artsy post-punk, like Joy Division or Gang Of Four, right? 'Cause I like that stuff. |
Pretty much. They're really good.

Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
Animal Collective - Feels I really forgot how much I dig this band. |
Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
Animal Collective - Feels I really forgot how much I dig this band.
I've never really been able to get into them :-/ I'm thinking of givig Sung Tongs another chance. |
In that case I would probably put DEP ahead of anyone else. Then again, I should really just listen to Converge because any metal band good enough for you has to be pretty damn good.
No way. Mastodon and Converge pwn DEP. How silly though, that no one has mentioned Isis. |
Converge is love.
If you classify that as metal, then that's by far my favourite metal band. |
Björk - Debut
Television - Marquee Moon Kaada - Thank You For Giving Me Your Valuable Time Morphine - Cure For Pain |
All things Choking Victim.

Another Green World by Brian Eno

I really like that album. It's a shame how bad they were when I saw them. I'm all things related to cLOUDDEAD, including Why?'s solo album. |
I've been getting interested in Doseone recently actually, based on the one song I've heard him on so far (a guest on Aesop Rock). He's in cLOUDDEAD, yes?

Minutemen bootlegs.

That sounds right. But I'm not really big on them Anticon folks. So I wouldn't take my word. I'm listening to Old Time Relijun's 2012 right now and I must say these guys got one hell of a groove. Like Beefheart, Stooges groove. Primordial dirt falling off brontosaurus bones, dig? |
Well I wasn't much of a fan of what I'd heard so far either, but that's kinda why I'm interested in pursuing Doseone. I suppose I might not like him so much over an Anticon (or Anticon-style) production, but I like him so far.
But yeah, that's only vocals on one song. |
A few years ago I was really into the band Fuel, but somehow I lost their cd's and completely forgot about them. Well I was going through a stack of unlabeled burned cd's the other day and I found the album that has Shimmer on it. What a great song.
|
Fuel is forgettable mainstream rock, but Shimmer is an ok song I suppose.
|
I listened to The Roots' Phrenology in the car yesterday and today and loved it. And I'm listening to Beck's Odelay right now for the first time and loving it.

Fugazi - Steady Diet of Nothing

I'm diggin this high school's band rendition of two songs off of DJ Shadow's Endtroducing...
found here:http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/09/school-band-play-endtroducing-with.html It isn't spot on but it was pretty good. |
