for me AYDY is a masterpiece... the improved soo much... the only reason why ppl don't like it is because everyone was expectin an second Hatebreeder.. hey, Alexi laiho give a **** of what you want... he is an artist and he has the rigt to develop his style... he has to do it, becaus if he won't he (maybe) will get a lack of inspiration.

i would give AYDY 9 of 10

AA-12 11-23-2005 03:53 PM

Yeah, i'm hoping that they will be getting more technical, and from the looks of AYDY?, they will.

Alexi changed because he wanted it to be more rhythmic in other words he wanted to step down his level off technicality, it can be argued why he chose to do this, he's changing to a more acceptable format in my eyes. Just because it's COB doesnt mean it's good and I think the amount of fanboyism I've seen over this album beats Dimmu and CoF. At least Dimmu have better production and symphonics and have more complex and interesting structures. Sure they sold out, and because they did their music is irrelevant, people just hate what they did and their image. Half the people who like AYDY are the metalcore people who like all the NWOAHM crap, so it's no wonder that they say CoB have improved because the new CoB style suits them better because it is easier to relate to. They say that moving from classical-inspried music (yes CoB have Mozart and other composers melodies in some of their earlier songs) to NWOAHM style music is an improvement.

AYDY gets 5/10 from me. Without Jannes good key lines it would be a 3.

repcak 11-23-2005 04:06 PM

hm, i don't know any Cob fans around me, and i am the only one who listens to metal in my circle of friends. i will see at the concert if its true that most of CoB fans now, are nu-metaler ...

Going to have to agree with this minus the part about it appealing to metalcore kiddies, as to me it sounds nothing like "metalcore".

the album lacks aggressive edge their other albums had, and it gets a bad rating from me because of that. The overall feel of the album is quite slow and seems to drone on and on with no direction.

I wish I had not wasted my money on it to be honest.

Oh well, they only play a few songs off the album live right, because I am seeing them tonight.

AA-12 11-23-2005 04:17 PM

Hey IHeartSP, could you possibly email me the CD Key for Guitar Pro?

Glad to see someone agree with me. :)

I just found the "heavy" downtuned rhythms reminiscent of metalcore. It does have an appeal to fans of Lamb of God and Trivium... at least in the area where I live.

EDIT: Not real metalcore like Converge but the new stuff from America.

Shadows Within 11-23-2005 04:26 PM

Ok I sent out the YSI link for Trashed, Lost in Helsinki to rekap and apocalyptic raids anyone else want?

EDIT: also to repak and Apoc i dident put a subject in there, sorry kind forgot....

I know what you spoke of, just that connection people make doesn't click with me.

I dunno what those riffs sound like to pinpoint them to a genre, but they don't sound like those type of bands.

I also find it funny that there is a big "FBI ANTI-PIRACY WARNING" on the back of the jewel case.

I found the parental advisory sticker amusing. Have you noticed those warnings are on all new relatively large label CDs? Megadeth even has copyproof CDs. :amaze:

The new Age of Silence EP has copy right protection on it as well.

There will always be a way around these things though.

And yea, I also found the parental advisory sticker to be amusing as well since I some how found the cd in a Fred Myers of all places.

Shadows Within 11-23-2005 04:41 PM

How do you pronounce Janne's name anyway?

Fred Meyer's?

I used to go there when I lived in Oregon, ages ago.

Negative Creep 11-23-2005 04:42 PM

My Favorite one at the moment is "Are you dead yet?"

Ya heh.

I was waiting to get into the Vader and Decapitated show, so I went and looked around in the electronics to waste some time and it was only 10 bucks, so I thought what the hell. I needed to break some money to get some change any way.
How do you pronounce Janne's name anyway?
I say "Janny". His full name also reminds me of the porn star, Jenna Jameson.

Toaster 11-23-2005 05:43 PM

I think it's "Yane", or "Yan". I'm pretty sure the Norwegian "J" sound is the English "Y" sound. Don't quote me though.

Thanks for sending Trashed Lost In Helsinki laiho :thumb:

Copy right protection?

It that the thing they put in the CD content to block burning it?

You prolly could rip it into iTunes as mp3 or something and burn it.

That's great but they are from Finland not Norway :p

Toaster 11-23-2005 08:21 PM

Yeah, but I don't know anything about the Finnish language.. I would think they're similar.

you said it man... i agree 100%. i mean some songs are allright...
the song Are You Dead Yet? sounds ALOT like metalcore to me.. in the verses anyway. either, that song isnt great.

Living Dead Beat, Next In Line, Trashed Lost & Strungout and We're Not Gonna Fall are the best ones. even there, they dont compare at all to the older stuff. i'd say Bastards of Bodom but the song gets pretty boring. the only good riff is the cheesy thing at the beginning.

I doubt cob will ever play to their full potential again, so for now im going to enjoy hatebreeder and follow the reaper.

That song is so far from sounding like metalcore :-\

Shadows 11-23-2005 11:31 PM

Agreed, I don't understand at all where these metalcore comparisons are coming from. God forbid a band should tune to drop C and be anything but metalcore.

I don't think Alexi is doing any of those things you mentioned. Stepping down in technicality? Not in the least. He may place less emphasis on lead guitar and not use any classical elements, but listen to the riffing. They're probably more technical then anything he's done in the past.

Outside this thread, there is no fanboyism really. I read around and all I hear about is how it sucks, which does irritate me. I would like the music no matter what artist put it out because it appeals to me, but because it was done by CoB. I haven't heard a single NWOAHM person say they improved with the new album like you said. All I see are a lot of people who lost faith in them and a core group of old fans who still like it.

But instances like these only support my theory that many people will hate anything a band puts out if it's a drastic change from their old style.
