Hooray for teh new Pope.
They chose one?

I'm a terrible Catholic.

Iai 04-19-2005 03:55 PM

One of my friends was whining about the new Pope being an old right-wing fascist.

I just said 'hay guyz condoms r bad k lol' and resumed ignoring her.

AndreTheHyena 04-19-2005 03:56 PM

:upset: I was hoping for a more progressive new Pope. The times they are a'changin'. But no one in the Vatican ever listens to me.

leiferikson 04-19-2005 04:00 PM

The jokes on them. Theyve clearly elected 4-time academy award nominee Leslie Nielsen (see avatar)

edit: I had so many problems writing that one comment :upset:

AndreTheHyena 04-19-2005 04:06 PM

Iai 04-19-2005 04:07 PM

I have no idea who that is, but I found it funny anyway.

He looks like a Christmas jew with that little red hat.

leiferikson 04-19-2005 04:08 PM
:upset: I was hoping for a more progressive new Pope. The times they are a'changin'. But no one in the Vatican ever listens to me.
Say they did appoint a more progressive pope. What would change exactly? Cos at the moment it seems the extent of the Pope's power is deciding whether its ok to use a jonny or not.

Leslie Nielsen is the guy from the Naked Gun movies and Airplane. Oh and best vampire spoof ever, Dracula: Dead and Loving It

AndreTheHyena 04-19-2005 04:09 PM

No, he'd be able to set the wheels in motion for allowing women into Priesthood, or allowing Priests to break celibacy. And even if the birth control rules were loosened, that'd be a huge step.

leiferikson 04-19-2005 04:17 PM

I see. Yeah i guess the birth control issue is linked to that whole aids thing

AndreTheHyena 04-19-2005 04:18 PM

Yessir.

And it would help battle the stereotype that Catholics all have huge families...which is much more than a stereotype.

I dunno, Ratzinger decried "liberalism" in his..."acceptance speech"? I dunno what it's called. Anyhow, not a great sign.
It's Joe Pesci!

http://blamebush.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/popefrankie.jpg
Holy crap you're right! He looks slightly like Nielsen in the pic I have but that actually IS Joe Pesci for sure

Iai 04-19-2005 04:19 PM

Has anyone considered how Poland feels about all this?

All they had of wealth was the Vatican, and it's been successfully invaded by a German!

AndreTheHyena 04-19-2005 04:20 PM

First time for everything.

Hey, wait...

Happymeal 04-19-2005 04:21 PM

If only Sean Connery was Pope.

"No shecks for you young 'uns."

leiferikson 04-19-2005 04:31 PM

I think it was sinister how a German was the best friend of a Pole who lived through the war in the first place. I smell a conspiracy

Zmev 04-19-2005 04:58 PM

Another great day for not being catholic.

AndreTheHyena 04-19-2005 05:01 PM

:upset:

But I'm in the process of converting to Buddhism,so I shan't let it bother me.

Luxor 04-19-2005 05:04 PM

That's a sick avatar, Andre. What's it from?

YDload 04-19-2005 10:23 PM

This website has a collection of mp3s: all versions of songs on the NWA album "Straight Outta Compton" with swear words ONLY. Every track is cut down to its essential bad words. For some sort of entertainment.

I'm not sure where it's originally from, but it's an artist's rendition of the late Hunter S. Thompson, the last of my heroes to leave this world.

Pure genius. I used to make tapes like this when I was younger and first started buying cd's on my own. I would just make a mix tape of a string of various artists singing "Fuck", it was amazing.

JonM 04-20-2005 06:24 AM

Look. The number of the beast \m/

Which one?

Bartender 04-20-2005 01:39 PM

Knowing how this thread works, I'm not sure whether this would do better as a thread of it's own. Might as well ask though.

Any chance any of you could help me find more of the kind of songs I'm enjoying at the moment? They're an odd kind of song to have a preference for - no particular genre, no particular length or anything like that. They all share a way of (mostly) guitar and bass playing that I'm really liking at the moment, but I've no idea what to call it, as I don't think it's a specific style or anything, just playing little catchy meandering bits of riffs/solos..gah. It's impossible to really say without just providing examples, which I will.

Here; the guitar throughout (but especially at the start) of Stiff Little Fingers - Johnny Was; the wah(?)-influenced guitar that begins after the piano intro on North - Through Fire; most of the instrumental outro of The Stone Roses - I Am the Resurrection; the intro bass and then all the guitar that follows on North - Untitled; finally, more or less all the bass and guitar work throughout The Stone Roses - Fool's Gold. Fool's Gold less so than all the others though, I think.

My hopes aren't high for actually getting answers to this :(

IHeartDisco 04-20-2005 03:14 PM

I listened to his LP at a friends house years ago now. He's crazy, but the songs are pretty entertaining. I should probably pick that record up on eBay sometime.

The answer to this is simpler than I thought. These "meandering" type solos and riffs you're looking for can be found pretty easily in most Minutemen songs. A lot of D. Boon's solos sound the same, but they're just what you're looking for.

Theater is the Life of You
#1 Hit Song
My Heart and the Real World
Dr. Wu
Maybe Partying Will Help

Songs like those.
