yesterday i was teaching guitar lessons, and this one really little guy (in grade 3) seemed totally uninterested in the stuff i was teaching (i would be too). so i asked him what kind of music he listens to..and he replies "rock". so im thinking "oh great, now i gotta teach this kid some blink 182 and simple plan songs". so i ask him who his favourite band is...he replies "Rush". i was very suprised. i tell him im a fan too..and he hits me with such knowledge that i was blown on my @ss. i was pretty impressed.
when did you guys start listening to classic rock? i started in grade six with the Stones. |
yeah, my teacher's pretty big on steve winwood and the beatles..let it be album all the time...i don't know if i want to get let it be naked or not..

The Eighth Grade with Steve Miller and Led Zeppelin
I couldn't find the Harper song you suggested, but I downloaded a song called Song of the Ages and it was like a symphony  |

|
Yea well grade 7-8 was when I got back into it, with Led Zeppelin. From Ages 1-9 my favorite Band was The Who.
|
I've only really started getting into decent music in the last 18 months.
*is 16 now* :upset:
Hey it's never too later man. Keep your chin up. |

I started listening to the good stuff in 9th Grade
Better late than never though. |
I've only really started getting into decent music in the last 18 months.
*is 16 now* :upset:
dam, only 16 and got a post count like that? how long have you been here?! but seriously, ive only been listening for a little over a year too, and im 16 too. And good work on the Featured Artist things, i would do one but i dont want to take any glory away from you...itd look like id be greedy for respect. and now to get on some topic of classic rock, I recently got three beatles albums, my first ones beside Beatles 1. Sgt Peppers, Revolver, and Rubber Soul. I havent yet checked on when these albums came out (early or late beatles material), but they are a lot better than i thought. I orignally heard just their good songs on 1, like Come Together, Day Tripper, and Get Back, but these albums really impressed me. Sgt Peppers was very good, but still not deserving enough to be #1 on RS top 500 album list. But whatever, but i say as a former 'not big fan' of the beatles, to give some of their albums a try first before judging them like that. |
Jeeeez. A lot today:
Some of my teachers like classic rock (one likes Robin Trower, another Zeppelin) I like Bad Moon Rising. I'd check out Fire by Jimi Hendrix, or Fame by David Bowie (for the mix) I've never listened to Roy Harper. I've talked with my dad's friends about music before. Me and one guy were discussing Tommy, and how great Townsend is for writing a concept album. This only covers page 427. I started with Zeppelin in 10th grade. Now I'm in 12th. So whatever. |
Is that why you like Zeppelin so much? Sorry couldn't resist...
|
No actually I don't really like them much anymore. Good try though.
|
it took me a while to get into zeppelin...i went through my cheesy eighties bands phase in grade eight...and yes of course it started with Stairway. that wast the only zeppelin song i knew for like three months straight of listening to it, thank god i moved on.
|
There is nothing wrong with Zeppelin, just because they are the first Classic rock band people get into doesn't mean that they are bad by any means. I can dislike Stairway because it was Heartbreaker that got me into Zeppelin, not Stairway.

I was talking to the mighty zep I have never been a fan I just cant stand plant's voice |
when i was pretty young, on long car rides we would listen to early beatles...most i think my mom just taped, some probably came from the anthology 1, maybe...so that's sorta where i got began, though i really got into classic rock from a friend who introduced me to floyd, and lynyrd skynyrd...neil young, too...that was probably grade eight..
edit: and i'm in grade 11 now, so yeah... |
Everybody goes through that first classic rock 'Zeppelin' Stage. Most people adore them, and talk about how great they are and will seriously listen to their CDs over and over and over again. Then they occasionally get turned on to this older music, ask their parents for more, like Floyd, AC/DC, whatever...and then its all good from their.
If Zeppelin can get all them kids to change for the better, props to them. They are dam near close to the best band, but only argueably in my book. Theres still alot to be explored, even for people listening to it for over 5 years. how every person is turned on to classic rock by only Zeppelin all the time, i dont know, but hell...their doing a great job |

I have never been a fan I just cant stand plant's voice
Alright. I started with Dazed and Confused. Still probably my favorite Zeppelin song. |
I guess but damm....I just dont see whats so great about them (their sound)

There's something about them that I really like and makes me enjoy listening to them. Maybe it's Bonham. |
I like zeppelin.
|
The Grateful Dead are a great band. There is no reason to rip on them.
I started in 7 grade with Zeppelin and now I'm in 9 grade. |

I like plenty of music that somebody who is far past their Zeppelin stage likes. But they're stil one of my favorite bands.
And we've serously been over this about 4 times before :( |

The band that i first listened to was ACDC and Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin was after them but the first time I heard Stairway To Heaven, I knew classic rock would be my interest
