Opeth as a boyband.... that would be very... odd...

Deth 11-14-2005 07:58 AM

He said they couldn't do it though because they're ugly.

*Wearing brand new Opeth shirt *
Another quote from Mikeal - "We're thinking about stopping being a progressive death doom band and becoming a boy band."
 You know there's gonna be a bunch of tr00 Op3th l337 fans saying "OMG OPETH IZ @B@NDONING TEH TR00 METUHL!!!!"

It's great to see they have a sense of humor.

spacemanjack 11-14-2005 10:28 AM

Gotta mention to you guys......does anyone here listen to Devin Townsend's stuff? Not even talking about Strapping Young Lad, but his solo work.......specifically his album Terria, I must recommend to you metal junkies. After a couple listens all I could think of was "Opeth on Prozac".

Worth checking.

Shred Danson 11-14-2005 10:29 AM

I've been meaning to check his solo stuff out, just never have...

ArcLite 11-14-2005 10:47 AM

So...Opeth concert last Wednesday the 9th.

Into Eternity openned. I had never heard any of their stuff but they sounded pretty damn good. The singer has a killer power metal scream. A good openning band to say the least. Then Nevermore hit the stage and started blowing the place up. Excellent performance on their part. Loomis' solo and lead work was flawless and Dane sounded great as well. The highlight being when they played the title track off This Godless Endeavor, something I wasn't expecting them to play. It sounded so sweet that I had goosebumps through the whole song. Finally Mikael and crew hit the stage, openning with Baying of the Hounds. I don't recall the exact setlist but its the same as or similar to the ones others have posted. Anyway, it was amazing. Everyone was spot on playing wise, except Lindgren made a minor error in the beginning of Bleak...Oh well. Sorry I'm not better at elaborating on the show, but down to the point, it was stellar. Best concert I've been to yet, and all three bands contributed to that rating.

Det_Nosnip 11-14-2005 12:04 PM

Yay....I can't wait for Nevermore tonight!!

Already got my Opeth dose a month ago or so, now it's time for my Nevermore.

If you think Stu Block was good... you should have heard them when they had Kris Krall .

I finally decided on The Philosopher or Flesh and the Power it Holds (both Death songs), heh. I'll probably do Philosopher because it's shorter and won't hurt my hand as much.

I would do a song like In My Time of Need, but I can't cleanly sing. At all. I'm a baritone or a bass, I dunno, but my clean singing is horrible. I can barely sing the clean parts in Deliverance right :P

Oh well, regardless I wanna do DM. I got a long night, tonight, heh

Good choice of song. Although doing Portrait of Tracy would be badass (it's challenging and the middle to end can get a little tricky). Ha, but good luck with that, man. pwn those ****ers!

vashts80 11-14-2005 01:07 PM

I looked at PoT, and I was like "fuck dat shit" lmao

Jude 11-14-2005 01:15 PM

Just so you know, you aren't going to get a very good response to a death metal song as a school talent show. People are probably going to cover their ears, boo you, maybe walk out. But whatever you want.

vashts80 11-14-2005 01:41 PM

They can't walk out, we're still in school. And the reception will be fine, I'm a legend in my school for some reason. I did Anesthesia last year, and that's definitely not ear pleasing, but I got an ovation for it heh

Bastard.

vashtsinsertnumbershere, good luck to ya. :thumb:

Always good to get some good music out to the masses, whether they boo you or not.

vashts80 11-14-2005 02:17 PM

Yeah, well I'm one of those people that likes to sing at lunch time. Loudly.

I growl Opeth at lunch all the time. People hear it. Some people accept it. Others laugh or whatever. I don't care, it never mattered to me because it's my "weapon of choice," so to speak.

Perdition 11-14-2005 02:18 PM

I know this may sound dumb but I thought I would ask it here since its the thread title, what does look your last upon the sun mean? It isnt lyrics is it? I saw it on the back of an opeth shirt and was wondering where it is from.

I don't think they're lyrics. It's just a random line they thought would be cool to slap on the back of a shirt. I wondered about that too because it's on the back of my Deliverance t-shirt.

vashts80 11-14-2005 02:30 PM

Growling isn't hard to do, actually. You open your jaw all the way (so your throat can't close up) and you push the air with your stomach, as if you were singing, but lower and slightly gritty

Spinal Pap 11-14-2005 02:34 PM

I would try right now but I have some family over and they'd probably think I'd gone insane. Thanks for the tips though. I'll try later.

Shattered_Future 11-14-2005 02:36 PM

It's fun growling. People stare at you like you're possessed.

JamJar 11-14-2005 03:01 PM

Can anyone confirm with me whether the Opeth gig at Rock City on the 27th is a 14+ or an 18+

If it's an 18+ then boy I'm fvcking pissed :)

raz0r 11-14-2005 03:41 PM

I just went to buy tickets for the opeth concert in Utrecht, on the 5th november, and it's sold out. And the annoying thing is, that there were tickets left yesterday!

I can't make the next gig, on the 22nd either, because the guy i'm going with is on holiday!

The one I wanted to go to was 18+.

I was depressed for a week after I found that out. :upset:

You have my sympathies. Just goes to show you, Ticketmaster is God.

Shattered_Future 11-14-2005 03:59 PM

Ticketmaster is evil, are you joking?

It didn't tell me Dragonforce was playing THEIR ONLY US SHOW in my area...I found out from their website, only to find out that tickets sold out the day they went up.

They DID have Sonata Arctica tickets though. :D

Kage 11-14-2005 04:01 PM

Ticketmaster is good, but with some unnecessary evils. Like paying half the cost of the actual ticket in service fees.

Toaster 11-14-2005 04:01 PM

I've always had luck with them.. next time check the band website for tour dates yes? :p

Good choice :thumb: I'm learning Spirit Crusher on my brand new bass, and the intro is starting to sound decent :p

Best of luck with your talent show though....heh, death metal in a school

Shattered_Future 11-14-2005 05:20 PM

Mmmm...brand new bass. :p

What kind?

Kage is right...Ticketmaster charges WAY too much for services. A 35 dollar ticket had 10 bucks extra for charges.
