Charlie Manson 09-21-2006 08:28 AM
I don't think Vacant really worked with the full orchestra.

It should've been strings on their own or even better, a single Cello.
Nah man you gotta have a full orchestra. anything less just doesn't cut it...

ghettoeddo 09-21-2006 12:41 PM
Imagine violins during the intro strumming pattern (The 3-2-00 or whatever it is)

it's harder for guitar than it is for violins :]
actually i take that back.

imagine them doubling petrucci's arp solo >: )

eug008 09-21-2006 06:15 PM

 Thats somthing I'd like to hear.

Inkstar 09-21-2006 06:28 PM

MP chose Vacant because he had to do a ToT song (if you hadn't noticed, they play a song from every album), and he'd stated that on this DVD he wanted to do as much material as he could which hadn't already been done on DVD. Every other song on ToT had been done at Budokan, except for Honor Thy Father, but he probably realised it would be far too hard to orchestra something that heavy. But yeah... They also needed a bit of a break after the awesomeness that is 6DOIT.

IbanezSamurai 09-21-2006 06:46 PM

The thing that annoys me is that you can't skip through different songs during 6doit.

holy crapper 09-21-2006 07:05 PM

I want to like this band because john has a great dvd for learning guitar.
But I just cant get into it.
I havent listened to them alot though are they the kind of band that grows on you

ghettoeddo 09-21-2006 08:03 PM

yes. they are. for sure.

but dont force yourself to like them man.
everyone says start with I&W and SFAM...but i say hit up 6DOIT and 8vm first.

Yeah when I first heard them I didn't really dig the vocals, I just enjoyed a few songs etc. Learning To Live and The Glass Prison but after listening to them more you start to like them heaps :thumb:

ghettoeddo 09-21-2006 09:38 PM

6DOIT is the perfect album to start imo.
you've got real heavy like the glass prison, beautiful ballad like disappear, and a little bit more proggier side like the great debate.

Inkstar 09-21-2006 10:13 PM

Octavarium is the best album to start with, I would say. It displays everything they stand for. Rocky heavy songs like TROAE and Never Enough, then ballads like TALW, simple songs like IWBY, a perfect mix of prog and metal with Sacrificed Sons, and ultimate prog epics with 8VM. Really can't go wrong.

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 01:19 AM

ok i'd have to agree with inkstar actually.

hey lionheart...jiust heard your take on blackened. you should attempt a DT song :thumb:

jpshortstuff 09-22-2006 09:22 AM

not much response :upset:

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:24 AM

eug008 09-22-2006 09:26 AM

eh? In my class if I play anything fast they are like

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:26 AM

jpshortstuff 09-22-2006 09:26 AM

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:27 AM

so what's the problem again?
:smoke:

jpshortstuff 09-22-2006 09:28 AM

np np.

they used to think i was an Opeth fanboy cus i coincidently wore my opeth t-shirt for all my music classes for a week. im happy either way.

jpshortstuff 09-22-2006 09:31 AM

eug008 09-22-2006 09:32 AM

you guys are doing one?
i'd love to...although im not sure if im clean enough to play that fast.

yeayea shoot me :(
i think genuine's pretty solid actually.

but i'd love to give it a shot i just dont have recording gear; ill have to mooch from my friend.

Chu 09-22-2006 09:39 AM

We're sort of doing an online tribute thing, not really a list of songs, just play any song, post a recording and someone will provide another track, until we have like a song from every album...

What if you did one of the slower songs, Nothing Else Matters, Mama Said etc. Any contribution will be valuable :)

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:41 AM

dont got an acoustic w/ me :(
but i'd be happy to do the solos for FTB i eat that shiit out and spit it back out.
not that it's too hard anyway :upset:

but it was a big accomplishment for me at one point.
im trying to learn UAGM in its entirety.

Chu 09-22-2006 09:46 AM

Record please :D

Edit: That is, FTB Solos and UAGM :D

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:51 AM

as soon as i get some recording software. eug is helping me out

Chu 09-22-2006 09:55 AM

Thanks man, really appreciate it :thumb:

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:56 AM

...does this mean i need a mike? i have a small one i use for CS and skype haha

Lionheart1827 09-22-2006 03:30 PM
ok i'd have to agree with inkstar actually.

hey lionheart...jiust heard your take on blackened. you should attempt a DT song :thumb:
Thanks.:thumb:

DT is just, way advanced for me. I dont think theres one DT song I can play all the way through. I can play songs like As I Am and ITNOG but once it hits those solo sections, I cant keep up at all.

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 04:00 PM

haha yea same...
although i can play through her eyes, the spirit carries on, octavarium (minus shredding), sacrificed sons (with my own wanking solo)

the easy ****t.

trysthedrummer 09-22-2006 04:02 PM

Haven't listened to DT in ages. I remember the days when I pretty much listened to 'em all day long. Out of that phase now.

Some of the drumming is a bit advanced for me, somethings are tricky.

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 04:04 PM

im looking for a decent drummer around campus so i can do a bit of jammin...
not that that has anything to do with you trys...

trysthedrummer 09-22-2006 04:06 PM

:(

:) I've seen you before are you from UK?

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 04:09 PM

no im an american.

PLEASE DONT SHOOT!!! :(

trysthedrummer 09-22-2006 04:23 PM

Thought so.

No I won't shoot, not yet.

eug008 09-22-2006 05:52 PM

ok ghetto, check your rep/pm

Inkstar 09-22-2006 07:43 PM

Yo I'm a drummer. :p

Not in the vicinity of America though.

I can maybe lay down some really crappy-recorded tracks though?

I can play all of 8VM (album) minus a few tricky bits in the title track which I'm yet to perfect. I can also play UAGM, seeing as I heard some of you talking about being able to do it.

ThatOneDrummer 09-22-2006 10:39 PM

i have all of 8VM except sacrificed sons, panic attack and never enough
i have as i am, endless sacrifice, in the name of god, and home down too, except for the solo section of home
im working on double bass so i can attempt this dying soul
oh and the ride/tom groove on blind faith is so much fun to play :D even if its pretty simple

ghettoeddo 09-23-2006 01:24 AM

awesome... :]
i wanna do a recording of 8vm (title track)
