And raw and disgusting usually is good, but Tardy's vocals just don't have the right sound for me.

I really need to check out [i]The Rack[/i] by Asphyx. One of my lab tutors at uni showed up with an Asphyx shirt on one day so I enquired about them and such was his recommendation. I didn't know it was the same vocalist from Pestilence though.

and kam does backing vox on The Key, not to mention both were in death at one point, although kam was in for the mantas incarnation.

in other news, i can't stop listening to cynic lately. the "don't be shallow" part on the eagle nature is the cue for me to stain my levi's, + the whisper on textures.

From personal experience, I will add that lip shaping and tongue placement is also very important.

If you're doing high screams, you'll want your tongue at the bottom of your mouth, and you'll want to drop your jaw and keep your mout exaggeratedly open, some people actually stick their tongues out when they do highs.

If you're doing lows, you'll want to have an almost closed mouth, and you'll want to make an exaggerated 'o' shape with your lips, and you should have your tongue near the roof of your mouth (how you get the sort of 'swishing' sound a good growl has).

In between ranges are similar, just higher = lower tongue, more open mouth, and lower = higher tongue, more closed mouth.

I guess i just try to push out threw my throat more, i dunno how to use my gut to growl. I really need like lots of help. The stuff you gave me was way good, but ugh. I just get frustrated.

Try doing rows and breathing deeply.

Ah so i was trying to do it today, and i used my gut and go more of a carcass sound. I just need to practice.

i like to think i can do john tardy vox. also chuck schuldiner vox and i sing blessed are the sick a lot on my way to work. im sure if i took my headphones off it would sound awful :lol:
