Whats the whole concept of The Wall?

Im thinking its about WW2.
Whats the whole concept of The Wall?

It's about a rock star going insane. The WWII references are partly because it's part based on Roger Waters' life and his dad died in WWII, and partly because the character in the story turns into a fascist and invokes images of Hitler and Nazis.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-14-2005 04:26 PM

It's about a guy named Pink Floyd. The character is supposed to be a combination of Roger Waters and the late Syd Barret. You should really watch The Wall for yourself before I go and ruin it for you, though. (a)

TYPUNK 10-14-2005 04:31 PM

I have watched it before.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-14-2005 04:33 PM

Then the story should be readily apparent. :p

Actually, my mom did ask me if The Wall was some kind of allegory for WWII, so I suppose I can see where you might get that idea from.

I've got 38. :D it's ok, still a lot to go.

So yea, I've been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd lately because of the albums Lunch sent out. They're great. Dogs is a pretty awesome song.

Dogs is unbelievable. I like Pigs a tad more, but nothing can match Gilmour on Dogs.

I have that. It's pretty sweet.

robo2448 10-15-2005 10:40 AM

Is There Anybody Out There is great. I like other live albums of theirs more, but Is There Anybody Out There is a cool performance of the Wall. I really like Mother off of that.

Pigs > Dogs

For TYPUNK and anyone else- http://home.mchsi.com/~ttint/

Awesome, complete, really detailed analysis of The Wall. It'll take a while to read through all that stuff, but it's worth it, awesome site.

I read part of that a while ago. It was pretty amazing, whoever wrote really has no life, though.

TYPUNK 10-15-2005 04:58 PM

yeah very descriptive and informing but yeah no life

robo2448 10-15-2005 05:00 PM

I've actually never read the whole thing. It's too long. But I've read quite a bit of it, and it's very informative.

Yes, there is an announcement about it at the top, and a quite a few threads in the pit aw well as one in the Site Forum.

BigTrav415 10-15-2005 07:51 PM

Haha, yeah, the reason I posted in here first was because I had had this page up while I was gone, and when I hit Refresh I noticed the changes. I just thought my computer had gone loco

np: Burning Bridges

Delta_King 10-16-2005 03:22 AM

Has anyone seen the Live in Pompeii DVD? Trippy..

Riva 10-16-2005 03:29 AM

I think most people in this thread have seen it. You are talking about the director's cut, I assume?

DeusExMachina 10-16-2005 09:37 AM

AHHHHH! The site is scary now. Mommy...

And yes, LAP is definitely a good DVD.

I haven't, but of course I just started posting here a little while ago.

I've just gotten more into Pink Floyd now because of all the mailing lists. Is it a good dvd?

Very good. I would recommend getting it. But, if you're going to get one Floyd or Floyd related DVD, I would recommend the acoustic Gilmour DVD from 2001 over LAP. But most in the forum would disagree.

I've seen a bit of Gilmour live and he's really good live (i've seen the Live 8 stuff and the tsunami concert) so I'll probably get whichever one is cheaper first.

TYPUNK 10-16-2005 10:02 AM
