Oh shi' fanboyism++

Well, over the last few days, due to Ollie, I've been growing into quite a Maiden fan. I am currently learning Aces High on geetar, but I'm struggling with a couple parts of the solos, due to one year of (un)expirience. :p Either way, they're quite the awesome band. :)

YDload 08-11-2005 11:59 PM
i know this may seem like a stupid question but i've never gotten into iron maiden and just want to know:

just how heavy is their music?
Heavier than hair metal bands like Poison and Whitesnake, but not as heavy as thrash bands like Metallica or Slayer. But they're still really good, regardless of whether or not that's your "thing."

Audiopond 08-12-2005 12:06 AM

Prowler is my favorite Maiden song.

Stone Cold Bush 08-12-2005 12:08 AM

I just got my first Maiden CD the other day, The Number of the Beast, and it is some really good stuff. Normally I am not into vocals similar to the ones Bruce Dickinson performs, but they fit Maiden perfectly. I'll be checking more albums out in the future, for sure. :)

I think most of us agree that NOTB is one of their weaker albums.

Minus Hallowed, of course.

Lord Abortion 08-12-2005 06:06 AM

pice of mind, the X-factor and seventh son are superior to beast... in my eyes at least, after that it gets a litle muddled, hallowed and the title track are exceptions though

crag 08-12-2005 06:09 AM

brave new world, somewhere in time and powerslave are probably my favourites

and don't worry about aces high, the solos are supposedly quite hard. i'm having a bit of trouble myself.

crag 08-12-2005 02:18 PM

ha ha, check my new avatar

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-12-2005 02:41 PM

Well, I've gotten most of the parts nailed, minus the end of the first solo. and the wierd sweep picking part in the second. Thanks for the song, as well. :)

crag 08-12-2005 02:43 PM

no problem, tis my destiny to spread the word of maiden :)

The newest issue of Guitar World has Aces High tabbed out, in case you didn't know. It also has basslines, which is cool because they even tabbed out the little end-of-the-song doodles that Steve Harris does :)

Britton 08-12-2005 08:42 PM

Hey you all!

I'm A big hard rock and early metal fan but for some reason have never really got into IM
the only songs I really know of them are some covers I've heard and the same old songs I hear on the radio

can you all introduce me into a bet world of iron maiden?

Just some songs that the die-hard IM fans like
thanks

I actually was enticed to learn the song through GW's CD that came with that issue, which had a live video of Aces High. I haven't looked at the tab, as I typically learn with powertabs,(w00t for MIDI) but I'll take a look at their version, just in case there are any discrepencies between the two.

Romanticide 08-13-2005 12:27 AM

hi everyone...yeah im in a sorta iron maiden phase rite now so i decided to come in...

Sweep picking is awesome when you learn how to do it.

arsonicpretorian 08-13-2005 03:00 AM

Finally, I thought I was the only person who thought that was a great album. No one mentions when saying the best albums, but its my favourite, and its got the best cover art, save maybe Live After Death.

crag 08-13-2005 08:18 AM

i just got x-factor, live after death and live at doni today for £20

that just leaves killers and reallive dead one and i'll have all the studio/live albums :)

Got any pictures of your tatoos?

blackthorne 08-13-2005 09:48 AM

how u do that thing in the qoutes that says who originally posted it

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-13-2005 10:07 AM
Sweep picking is awesome when you learn how to do it.
I can sweep pick a bit, but in the solo, he does a wierd triplet, so I figured out a way around it. It doesn't sound much different. I can actually barely tell my self. :p Anyways, now I can play all of both solos, except for the end of the first solo, which I doubt I will be able to 'learn' now, as my technical ability really inhibit me on that part.

Decisions, decisions....

Should I get Somewhere in Time after Piece of Mind (which I'm getting next), or Brave New World....

Suggestions anyone?

Oh god.

Buy both or flip a coin. That is a really hard choice. I give the slight edge to BNW though.

i would honestly buy their new essential iron maiden cd before either because of the older songs but brave new world would be my choice of the two there because it has some harder songs that are really going to stick like the song wickerman.
