Well, considering you can get a copy of both of their albums for $2, I'd say they are worth the effort.

I've still only got their first one, as I am waiting for them to bring out the version with artwork of the new album. I introduced them to mx

http://www.thejollyrogers.org has mp3s. I'd reccomend, in the following order:

The Party Punch
A Walk In The Park
Oh Be One
The Pirate's Anthem
Jane Is Fat

Tangy zizzle 12-01-2005 12:35 AM

What do they sound like?

br3ad_man 12-01-2005 12:37 AM

folky indie pop

Sort of like a mix of Animal Collective and...I dunno. Their singer sounds a bit like the dude from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but not as over the top or ridiculous.

Tangy zizzle 12-01-2005 01:20 AM

Pfft. Sounds like hippy longhair music.

Zappa 12-01-2005 05:26 AM
I think Neu! are quite a boring band indeed. They have their moments, yes, but ultimately they were just kinda awkward and "arty" for the sake of it.
...but you like Can.
Pfft. Sounds like hippy longhair music.
Pfft. You are a long haired hippie. From New Zealand.

3rdplanet 12-01-2005 11:33 AM

Bought Bonobo's Dial M for Monkey and I have to say it is much too much of a good thing.

Iai 12-01-2005 12:37 PM
What's it like? Average as hell, I bet.
A little better than that, but not much.

Little Man being Erased 12-01-2005 04:04 PM
A little better than that, but not much.
Yeah, I don't think I'll bother with it.

Last night and this morning I dug:

Nada Surf - Let Go
The Smiths - The Smiths
Massive Attack - Mezzanine

el doctor 12-01-2005 04:18 PM
...but you like Can.
That's what I was thinking.

Ive been digging this for the past 2 hours. It can get a bit tedious at times, but it works well to keep in the background.

asymm 12-01-2005 04:55 PM

Pretty normal day.

Galaxie 500 - Today & On Fire
Guided By Voices - Fast Japanese Spin Cycle EP & I Am A Scientist EP

Zappa 12-01-2005 07:37 PM
I've been on a Decemberists kick lately. Picaresque and Her Majesty, primarily.

...but you like Can.
Can run circles around anything Neu! ever put out. They had groove, and rythym and soul man, soul.

Robert Crumb 12-01-2005 11:05 PM

'75 had some soul. But mostly, Neu! is a very functional band.

Roots Manuva
Robert Wyatt
Bob Dylan
Blueprint

Little Man being Erased 12-01-2005 11:07 PM

Today I have listened to:

Billy Bragg - Back to Basics
Radiohead - OK Computer
Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak
Ryan Adams - Cold Roses
The Decemberists - Picaresque (I just can't stop listening to it)
The Smiths - Meat is Murder (again)

Tangy zizzle 12-01-2005 11:15 PM

Awesome, another Roots Manuva fan. Have you heard his Back to Mine? it's not half bad.

I've been listening to:

The Hold Steady
Drive-by Truckers (awesome band)
CCR
Les Savy Fav

Robert Crumb 12-01-2005 11:21 PM
Awesome, another Roots Manuva fan. Have you heard his Back to Mine? it's not half bad.
I've only heard Run Come Save Me and I just got the new one. I'm still relatively new to the guy but he's good.

Little Man being Erased 12-01-2005 11:24 PM

Make that another two Roots Manuva fans. I've only got Awfully Deep though.

Daniel! 12-02-2005 12:10 AM

The Harder They Come
Scientist - Scientist Rids the World of the Curse of the Evil Vampire
Augustus Pablo - King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown

Tomahawk 12-02-2005 08:16 AM

Kinda took a break from music recently, but I'm back into it with a ton of Split Enz, plus some XTC, Talking Heads, and Crowded House.

Also, I'm kinda hooked on the new Darkness album.

sketchyjoe 12-02-2005 10:17 AM

The Dwarves

Bartender 12-02-2005 12:03 PM

Cryptopsy - Once Was Not
Aesop Rock - Float
Television - Marquee Moon

Only that last was new for me, but I've spent the last couple of days consolidating the first two.

Interstate 12-02-2005 04:36 PM

Tortoise - S/T
Notorious B.I.G - Ready To Die
Camper Van Beethoven

Zappa 12-02-2005 05:37 PM
Can run circles around anything Neu! ever put out. They had groove, and rythym and soul man, soul.
I of course disagree with all claims in this statement.

Dog 12-02-2005 05:44 PM

Magazine - Real Life
Calexico - Convict Pool EP

edit: and Decemberists - Picaresque

3rdplanet 12-02-2005 06:00 PM
Jeff Buckley
Lightning Bolt

Would you say that album was better than Music by Cavelight?

Have been listening to Elbow.

el doctor 12-02-2005 07:30 PM

Amon Düül II - Tanz der Lemminge
Jeff Buckley - Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk
Amon Düül II - Tanz der Lemminge

I thought Jeff Buckley only released one album. What's on that one?

Tangy zizzle 12-02-2005 09:02 PM
I of course disagree with all claims in this statement.
Of course you do, I made it.

:)

Happymeal 12-02-2005 09:31 PM
Would you say that album was better than Music by Cavelight?

It is better. But I didn't really like Music by Cavelight much to begin with.

asdf 12-02-2005 09:32 PM

Today while cleaning my basement I have so far listened to:
Pinback
Thingy
World/inferno friendship society (two albums)
Dead kennedys
Kaizer's orchestra

el doctor 12-02-2005 09:36 PM
I thought Jeff Buckley only released one album. What's on that one?
These are all the unfinished recordings he was working on up until his death. It's good; not quite as warm as Grace, but definitely edgier.

nyltiak 12-02-2005 10:06 PM

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Jurassic 5 - Power In Numbers
Sonic Youth - Anything and everything.
The Decemberists - Castaways & Cutouts
M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts
The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium

Luxor 12-02-2005 11:15 PM

^ Very good list.

With the exception of Sonic Youth, that is.

br3ad_man 12-02-2005 11:17 PM
