Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding
Black Eyes - Cough Cough Helicopter. |
Bad Brains - Black Dots
Big Youth - Ride the Lightning |
What do you think of it?
I'm not too experienced or knowledgeable in the area of soul, but I really enjoy it. It's a solid 4/5; track highlights for me were Don't Give Up on Me, Diamond in Your Mind, and Soul Searchin'. I'd like to pick up Make Do With What You Got sometime soon. The Decemberists - 5 Songs EP Leonard Cohen - Songs Of Love And Hate |
Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
Yeah that's a bucket of kittens. |
The Smiths - The Smiths
Talking Heads - Remain in Light Special Branch - Time To Go Home Elbow - Cast of Thousands |
Love the avatar.
I've listened to "A Pair of Brown Eyes" far too much over the past few days. I've also been listening to Smiths covers, I've found one or two gems but most of them are lackluster. |
I love your avatar.

Neu! - Neu! '75
LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem Both are good, but nothing fantastic. |
A day of good tunes:
Mastodon - Remission Can - Monster Movie mclusky - Do Dallas Millionare - Paradisiac Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power I think Swami listened to Television or some such band, but who knows. |
oh you
I've pretty much been listening to The Woods |
Murs and Slug
Roxy Music |
I first heard this song on a Transworld skating video and as soon as it was over I got it on my pc.
"Wrong" by Archers Of Loaf. It's old "indie" rock, I guess. |
I've been listening to a bunch of GY!BE lately (go figure) to prepare myself for a presentation on globalization and multinationals.
I'll probably be using this picture as an audio/visual aid: http://www.jaybabcock.com/mapofevilinvert.jpg |
The Blood Brothers - Burn Piano Island Burn

Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power
I've never heard them, are they good? They're playing here tonight, I wanna know if missing something special. |
lysdexia?
Neu! - Neu! '75
Nirvana - Unplugged Phoenix QotSA |
Bruce Haack
|
Hey Alex, I listened to the first song of that Neu album once. I thought it sucked. Am I missing some form of post punk enlightenment?
|
Yeah I don't really like them either.
|
I'm listening to The Smiths.
|
Does Neu! sound anything like Wire?
|
But they're post-punk?
|
Ohh, okie dokie.
|
Hey Alex, I listened to the first song of that Neu album once. I thought it sucked. Am I missing some form of post punk enlightenment?
You mean "Hallogallo?" It's beautiful, uplifting, mechanical, driving, subtle, and passionate. What's not to love? And to the whole post-punk thing: if anything, they're proto-punk. Their last studio album was released in '75. They inspired the punk scene to a certain extent, and the post-punkers took on some Neu!-ish qualities quite a bit, but I would rather just separate them completely. I think of Neu!'s music as progressive rock, but it's a distinctly German strain of prog. |
His Name Is Alive - Home Is In Your Head
|
Anyone heard the new Calexico?
|
Neu is ok. Nothing that blows my mind. I prefer Kraftwerk.
Can't beat Kraftwerk. |
Today has consisted of the following.
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads The Veils - The Runaway Found Sufjan Stevens - Hark! Songs for Christmas Vol 1 Elvis Costello - My Aim is True The Decemberists - Picaresque I've finally given a Sufjan Stevens album a listen (well kinda). It was ok. Picaresque really is a fantastic album. My only minor problem with it is the last song. The album would have been just a bit better if it had finished with "The Mariner's Revenge Song." |
M83. Lots of M83. and Efterklang, whom I want to have blippy babies with.
|
Meat Loaf. Lots and lots of Meat Loaf.
|
With Iron and Wine? It's fairly solid.
I meant The Book and the Canal. |
Culture - Two Sevens Clash
Junior Murvin - Police and Theives Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - Streetcore The Strokes - Lasting Memory (a collection of live performances) |
His Name Is Alive - Home Is In Your Head
Excellent band. |
oh you
I've pretty much been listening to The Woods
Awesome disc that one |
I've never heard them, are they good? They're playing here tonight, I wanna know if missing something special.
Yeah you are missing something special. Super Furry Animals are a band, like Flaming Lips, that make me genuinely happy when I lisaten to them. They don't really sound like the Lips, but the vibe is similar. They're Welsh, and crazy, and sun-soaked and just awesome and fun. I love them. |
I think Neu! are quite a boring band indeed. They have their moments, yes, but ultimately they were just kinda awkward and "arty" for the sake of it.
|
Awesome disc that one
Awesome band. I've forgotten their singer's name, but man she is amazing. I've been listening to The Jolly Rogers/Oh No! Oh My!. Best band EVAR. |
Should I listen to these Jolly Rogers? You guys, esp. you Andwaaa, whore them a fair bit but I've never been inclined to give them a go? Convince me.
Oh yeah, new Calexico is pretty good. It's not amazing but it's reliable (as Calexico always are) and still quite fresh sounding. Full length should be out early '06 I think, and that looks to be a baaaadarse record. |
