It's a big media thing.

Take Unaccompanied Minors for a second.

I havn't seen the movie, but you don't need to to note the following:
~Bunch of kids, stuck somewhere unfavorable
~Mean ole adults trying to ruin their Christmas or whatever
~The kids are right, the adults are wrong
~The kids win by banding together to overthrow the rule the adults have imposed on them.

Oragnized anarchy, no?

Happy Feet:
~Old, Christian white penguin guy is all like "Dancing is wrong and lame and stupid"
~Young "non-conformist" penguin dances and eventually saves the colony
~Penguin #2 overthrows penguin #1's rule with the help of the other penguins.

There's a million examples of it in the media.

Like the hypocricy of TLC?

They have a commercial..thing..like "Think for yourself," blah blah blah.

And the actor they chose to do it?

Clinton Kelly, the guy from What Not To Wear.

I could go on for hours, but I'll stop here.

You get it.

Danger Bird 12-13-2006 10:23 PM

Seems more about rebellion targeted towards youth because they eat that type of shit up.

Sunshine 12-13-2006 10:27 PM

I think it's because they've become too sheep-like, so the media has to stir up SOME form of controversy.

The result is this weird commercialized anti-establishment thing.

HotTopic?

Danger Bird 12-13-2006 10:31 PM

I don't think selling anti-authority is anything new.

ie Rebel Without a Cause

Sunshine 12-13-2006 10:35 PM

True.

I dunno.

It just seems worse than before..

But then, I wasn't alive much "before," so perhaps I'm wrong.

Aus Rotten 12-13-2006 10:36 PM

Has anyone made anything lately? Sheesh! What's with the lack of pictures! Although, I am continuing the trend in saying, I just sewed my own hoodie out of a few pairs of old jeans, and am supplying no pictures. :upset:

Sunshine 12-13-2006 10:37 PM

I'm making a t-shirt for my birthday.

And by making I mean performing reconstructive surgery on, but you get it.

Danger Bird 12-13-2006 10:37 PM

I'm making brownies with stars of david on them as we speak

... type

Aus Rotten 12-13-2006 10:38 PM

Well, happy birthday to yourself then Sunshine! Explain though, what do you mean by making your own T-Shirt? Stenciling/painting it yourself?

Sunshine 12-13-2006 10:44 PM

Thanks ^-^

Naaah, I suck at that and don't have the adequate materials.

More like, writing on it in sharpie.

The customization part, though, is more of a cut-sew-change-the-shape-of-it sort of thing. That's more my forte.

Making t-shirts not look like t-shirts anymore.

Aus Rotten 12-13-2006 10:50 PM

haha, that's awesome! I just recently made an entire hat out of old patch material. It's pretty tight methinks! Although, it barely functions as a hat anymore!

Sunshine 12-14-2006 06:23 AM

Hehe awww, that's very much cool though ^-^

Yeah, I have a ginormous bag of scraps and things to use for t-shirt surgery.
I shower every morning because my hair is so thick and gets really greasy and disgusting.
My hair is thicker than yours and it doesn't do that. Try going for a week without washing it at all, see if it gets better. For some people, their hair gets greasier if they keep washing it.
I have a bigger problem with deoderant. It's just not a habit like teeth brushing so I dont apply everyday. Proabably 5 times a week though so it's not like I have bad BO.
I've put deodorant on once in the last year and a bit, and that wasn't even for the smell, it was 'cos I was in Israel and the sticky armpits were driving me nuts and chemical deodorant dries them out (which isn't very good for me, but neither are drugs).
Aww, c'mon.

Not ALL DIY shirts are gay.

But it IS kind of sad how commercial the whole thing has become.
That's capitalism for you.

I feel like saying something disparaging about your hat, but that's mean, and it sounds like a pretty cool hat, so I'll say something about you flirting in the DIY thread. Stop it!

Here's a DIY tip for anyone living in London: Ever wondered how to put old bus passes to good use in saving you money? Hold them upside down and at an angle, and when you get on the bus and hold it up for the driver's scrutiny, try to walk on the right side of the door (ie. the side furthest away from the Oyster reader). I've been going almost two weeks without paying for busses, using the same bus pass.

Way to not support the valuable public service you depend on :thumb:

Dudes, I just saw a commercial on TV about how it's unchristian to shop at walmart. It lists all these facts about child labor and stuff and then it's like "Would Jesus shop at Walmart? Should you?"
EDIT: Yo, found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2dk8f21TIo

Hey, not only should public transport be free, it should definitely not cost a quid fifty for a single. Besides, it's not like I'm ripping off the taxpayers, the whole thing's privatised now.

Jesus was a socialist/anarchist, he wouldn't be going near Walmart unless it was to steal/throw bricks/burn it.

Not all companies are evil, you're still stealing without any kind of justification.
Jesus was a socialist/anarchist, he wouldn't be going near Walmart unless it was to steal/throw bricks/burn it.
Yeah, I heard Jesus was a big advocate of stealing and violence.

A capitalist company is evil.
Yeah, I heard Jesus was a big advocate of stealing and violence.
He was all about the wealth redistribution, and stealing is just a way of doing it through direct action.:p

You're right about the violence though.

I just prefer not to think about society and the media because it makes me way to mad. I just kinda do whatever the hell I feel like doing and ignore society and the media as you could do with an annoying child, taking them down a notch at every oppurtunity.

AIRIC 12-14-2006 01:24 PM

Umm guys back on topic more tshirts please Danger Bird

Then you shouldn't ride the bus at all. But just reaping the benefits of what you call an evil company without paying your fair share is wrong. Not to mention how closed-minded that is, it's basically the same as the US invading Viet Nam just because we didn't like communism.

That's pretty good, and those shoes are definately DIY. You might want to lay some newspaper or something down around the edges of your stencils so you don't get so much overspray like on the Subhumans shirt, unless you wanted to make it more DIY-looking.

No, because I can see capitalism oppressing people at every turn, it's not a system that's sometimes good and sometimes bad.

Every turn. Right.

Positively Rob 12-14-2006 06:16 PM

Danger bird, I like your stencils, but I think they would come out better if you put paper around the image so when you spray you wont get over spray around the image, good work!

I'm making my boyfriend a christmas present. I'll post pictures after I've given it to him. You know, in case he reads these forums or something.

coheneran 12-14-2006 06:49 PM

He won't mind you posting frames from a personal porno film on the internet?!
