Phil, on that left hand slap technique you showed me, do you sound the note, then left hand slap etc.?
thats just for quick percussive fills, theres no real actual note in there, but if you wanted a note on the begginingg of it , hammer a note with your middle finger on your fretting hand then thumb and pop on your right hand

Spaceman Spiff 06-14-2005 10:04 AM

Okay, I will admit they are talented.

I just don't like them.
there is no such thing as bad music!
exactly - every kind of music has some people who like it - or it would be so non mainstream that you would never hear about it, so there is no kind of music that everyone in the world considers bad, music preference is personal opinion, nothing more
although maiden are the best band on the planet - although rush come a close second

Gav, seems a bit too concentrated on slap, but we all were for some reason, decent player though

Quatre awesome awesome player. though having throngs of people come ask him to DT donna lee got kinda old when we were practicing our ensemble piece, but hey thats no his fault.

Phil kicked more *** than i coudlve ever imagined coming from an indie kid...heh....heh...

Matt had a very solid sense of what sounded good, there was definitley more funk in his version of MAMBG than mine, i played it for technicality and chops, he took his time and played it down tempo......but **** wooten woudlve been envious of the amount of funk radiating from him when he played that

Andrew definitley had some shining moments, but he became sort of shy when the right time to shine was, so he just needs to get out and jam with some people

Jorge made me almost drop a trb 6 john pattituci sig when he nailed the final chord of PoT it was awesome.

Ed had some serious musical thoughts going on, excellent tapper

Tryxx and andrew were the tech team to be had, they knew exactly how to do things on everyones basses. Tryxx andrew and quatre together was the medic team for our basses, tryxx also had some serious speed going on when he played, some good musical ideas as well.

bottlerocket 06-14-2005 10:23 AM

^ The medic team...

Whenever I get bored I just start slapping...I don't know why. :amaze:

im really starting to begrudge my lack of speed at the moment, dont ask me to play 16ths past 180bpm bassically, im not being funny, but besides going at my bass full speed 24/7 i dont know what to do to improve - any ideas?
its my right hand that is the problem - i use three fingers effectively, and its no use asking me to use my pinky, its physically too small, even when i rotate my hand enough for it to pluck the string with the other fingers the index finger is too far rotated to hit the string, so three is my maximum - grr this is irritating me - especially when i want to be progressing onto the things like donna lee - well - maybe not donna lee at first, but being a metal head speed is important to me - please help - apologies for the rant guys :thumb:

Speed comes from practice man.

16th notes at 180.....sounds like you are trying to play astral traveller.

let it go, i played it down tempo along side me and my bass guitar (my ace in the hole for auditions). i woint be able to get that solo up to speed for a very very long time, and i practiced approx 40 hours on that solo before i played it for berklee, and i was still down 40 bpm (cleanly though)

Left Shoe 06-14-2005 10:37 AM

practice among other things, stop cracking your knuckles asap, stop dirnking caffeine asap.

you can shred on what youve been practicing for a long time, like i can shred one octave scales and full positions without problem because i run those daily.

though i did practice astral traveler a bunch and coudlnt get that up to speed, i was down 30-40 bpm.

heh heh - well - the intro to warheart by children of bodom involves sixteenths and eigths at 190 bpm - that i cant quite do - although i am pretty clean with my speed, unlike some people i know, and believe me i practice, but im not naturally that strong, in the arms especially, so im not that lucky in that sense - what speed is donna lee? i believe its mainly 32nd notes

PaulSimonon 06-14-2005 10:40 AM

Lucky me, I don't drink anything with caffiene, and I don't crack my knuckles...

cracking knuckles = arthritis
caffeine = less strenght in your tendons
whats up casual puke-fizzle in da house!!!!!
please dont say puke-fizzle - some friends of mine are starting to call me fizzysick because of one bad experience with a lot alcohol and lemonade,
it brings back bad memories - so if you wouldnt mind - cos it really annoys me :thumb:

PaulSimonon 06-14-2005 10:53 AM

Donna Lee is at 210 bpm if you're talking about the Jaco version.

basicaly you want to play it at 230 for quarter notes

PaulSimonon 06-14-2005 10:55 AM

...230 bpm...

Seriously? I always thought it was 210... That extra 20 beats will stab my fingers...

bottlerocket 06-14-2005 11:00 AM

Phil, cracking knuckles doesn't lead to arthritis. It's a myth. It's never been proven. I can scientifically prove it's not bad if you want. :)

psh look at it this way, could it hurt to stop?

fatbandit 06-14-2005 11:08 AM

Yes, it could. Sometimes when I'm playing, I'll make a stretch, and my finger locks, because I haven't cracked it, causing me immense pain. I can do it easy once I've stopped to crack it.

i could probably do eighths at 230 bpm
my bands latest song goes up to eights at 200bpm, that simple enough when you use three fingers
time to look at a tab :thumb:
