 I've definitely seen variations on that conversation enough times in this thread. If it's managed to go for 200 some pages without becoming consistently spam, I think a little branching off is OK.

Stupid Darkness Of Greed. Him and his Kanadian ways.

By the way, I'm having to re-upload Lateralus because it crapped out on me last night, so hopefully I'll send it within an hour or so.

It's cool.

I just figured out the opening riff of Bleak on bass. I need to work up the finger speed though, I can't properly play it at full tempo yet.

Edit: 4K POSTS

Deth 11-11-2005 10:01 AM

the bass part is actually more interesting than you may here it. MXtabs has a great tab that I used to learn the song. I don't know whether it's correct or not, but it sounds good.

----------------------------------------------
-----------7--6-----------------------------
-----5-7---------7-----5--7--7-----------
-0-------------------7---------------------

is the way I play it.

Congrats on 4k posts.

You crazy guitar/bassists with your numbers in the tabs.

Darkness of Greed: The Moor. Godhead's Lament is teh ghey
CreepingDeth: Godhead's Lament fag
Flynn: Everything after Orchid is a sellout

I dont really think this whole official thread thing is working at all.

My thread got deleted and moved into here because it regarded Opeth. Instead of getting pages of relevent responses, I got one or two and then I was drowned out by a conversation about Magic cards.

I still haven't gotten any real help.

IMO It all depends on who posts in them.

Maybe I misread a post from a long time ago in here, but was Mikeal in the band in the first line up ? Like when the band was formed.

Because I read like that there was another singer and stuff...

but like I said, I could have just misread it.

Nah, Mikael and Peter formed the band in 1991. Read the in depth biography of the band at their official website...

Have either of you ever been here?

Det_Nosnip 11-11-2005 04:40 PM

I'd like to. Canada is looking nicer and nicer by the day...well, mostly because its not here.

Shattered_Future 11-11-2005 04:47 PM

Yes, the state of our country seems to be going downhill more and more...

Darkness 11-11-2005 04:50 PM

I heard something that the States were like, 38 trillion dollars in debt... thats pretty bad...

Not to mention Chinas planning to start a war with you guys soon...

/cry What does it matter? Just post and talk about Opeth. Oh yeah, and by the way...I never once typed ''Everything after Orchid is a sellout''. I know this because of 2 things. I don't use that word, ever, and I like everything Opeth has ever written, always have. I dont' care too much for Ghost Reveries, that's about it. I like everything Opeth has recorded. Instead of putting letters in my mouth, why don't you just post the Page number. I am looking forward to your reply.

-Thanks.

Yes, he was in the band from the beginning basically, but he didnt' come up with Opeth's concept. Mikael Akerfeldt was asked to contribute bass guitar to the band by its founder member, David Isberg. Isberg later left and Akerfeldt took over.

EDIT :Sorry for double post:

Is there any recorded material with David Isberg ?

That would be extremely rare, since he abandoned the band before Orchid was recorded. I do not know if he had anything to do with the album, but any recordings before that would be really hard to get..if there are any. All I know is he came up with the band name and concept...Akerfeldt took over.

Oh ok...I find that actually weird because seeing Opeth today, I would think thats its Akerfeldt that was the person behind it all...

I think David Isberg is partially credited for either Into the Frost of Winter or Eternal Soul Torture.

But both songs have the absolute worst sound quality ever recorded in the history of the world, so I can't say much about how good the actual songs are. Altough some parts were rehashed into other songs.

 Yeah, terrible recording quality. I know for a fact that parts of the song ''Into The Frost Of Winter'' ended up on Advent. But that was recorded in 1992, and David was already gone.

You haven't heard much black metal then. :p

Shattered_Future 11-11-2005 08:19 PM

This may look like a cheap shot to whore my new review. Bear with me though.

I found a new band, Novembers Doom. They have a very Opeth-esque vibe around them...deep vocals, heavy pounding riffs, and haunting fingerpicked acoustic parts. Yet they have a style all their own, combining death, doom, and atmospheric metal together.

At the bottom of the review, there's a link to their official webpage, with a few of their songs. Check them out...you won't be disappointed.

Darkness 11-11-2005 09:07 PM

Wow, I'm checking that band out now.

Lep 11-11-2005 09:10 PM

i'm really diggin' their new album. i have all of them btw and they're my fav. band.

Kage 11-11-2005 09:12 PM

Man, I adore the acoustic sections of the songs on Morningrise and Orchid. As far as most of the electric stuff goes, it's two thumbs down. The last half of Black Rose Immortal (or am I thinking of In the Mist She Was Standing?) is downright amazing.

Shattered: I'm checking out the band now.

I thought Into the Frost of Winter was great. It was hard to get passed the production, but it was one of Orchid's better songs.
