( to dragunov ) that sucks, thrash has always been a good form of metal, metallica went the wrong way after parting from their kill em all roots,
anyone else notice all new metal bands these days are death metal and such, you dont see anymore traditional metal
Metallica isn't the be-all end-all of thrash metal. :p

Newer traditional metal bands are out there. Most of them mix influences from power metal though, which isn't at all a bad thing. Plus, older bands are still going strong (see Judas Priest, Manilla Road, Brocas Helm, Angel Witch, etc.)

Death metal++

Well said about Metallica... i hate it when people come in here saying something like "OmGZ TrAsh Metalz Metallica!!!11"

I'd love to see Angel Witch, their self titled debut is classic.

Rising 07-24-2005 10:26 AM

aside from on going old bands , which is good,
and yea well i hope thats the case, id rather be wrong and have some decent thrash out there
but most new metal is black/death/grind etc

There's alot of great new thrash bands out there, and most of them sound like they're fresh out of the 80's.

What thrash bands do you like?

Rising 07-24-2005 10:32 AM

Megadeth, Metallica ( Kill em all )
Judaspriest, Motorhead, iron-maiden ( not sure if maiden counts as thrash )
Sacred Reich

Rising 07-24-2005 10:36 AM

sacred reich - american way :chug:

RCA 07-24-2005 10:37 AM

Reign Of Terror, Disciples Of The Watch, Over The Wall, Alone In The Dark, and Apocalyptic City. I'm not a big Testament fan (as the others know), but there's the few songs I like by them.

By the way, if you need album recommendations, just come back here and ask. The regs here will be glad to give you some help. :thumb:

DisposableHeroes 07-24-2005 10:43 AM

The first three Testament albums are good, but try downloading:

Over The Wall
Eerie Inhabitants
Practice What You Preach
C.O.T.L.D
The Preacher

theres probably some more essential songs than that, i just canny be bothered :p

Burnt Offerings... how could you forget that?

Bascially most of the stuff off The Legacy is worth getting, but don't bother with any more after that.

I am still a fan of Testament, whether their material be thrash or "crap" to the rest of the members here.

I got Cold Steel...For An Iron Age off of Napster today. w00t.

The regulars on here don't seem to like a lot of stuff after The Legacy. They don't feel that it's "thrash worthy", which I can understand but I personally don't think it's terrible.

Rising 07-24-2005 04:13 PM

ok, well here are the songs of testament that i've heard so far, and to be honest they've put a good impression on me for the band so far

Practice what you Preach
Disciples of the watch
Over the wall
Trial by Fire
Souls of Black
Legacy : is ok i guess

joe_fresh 07-24-2005 04:17 PM

Rising 07-24-2005 04:40 PM

joe_fresh 07-24-2005 04:42 PM

Great band, the two albums i mentioned are excellent. Definatley worth checking out.

Terrorzone 07-24-2005 04:43 PM

They are a german thrash band. They are awesome. For more german thrash, check out Kreator and Destruction.

RCA 07-24-2005 04:53 PM

Anything Tom Angelripper touches is worth checking out. I haven't been deeply disappointed in a Sodom/Onkel Tom album yet. :)

NP: Heathen - Arrows Of Agony

We all know who Slayer are. :p

Yeah, Angel of Death is a great song. I'm especially fond of the breakdown in it.

Terrorzone 07-24-2005 05:37 PM

Is the new Nevermore album worth getting?

RCA 07-24-2005 05:38 PM
Is the new Nevermore album worth getting?
I don't like Nevermore, so I couldn't tell you. I think Ravenous likes them, maybe he can give you an answer.
