I'd much rather have ISS than starcast.

The visions are birch and bass wood :-/

maniac0796 03-17-2007 05:40 PM

Same as Superstar...

I'd rather have Starcast, but lets not get into this **** for the 6 millionth time.

Drum Phil 03-17-2007 05:44 PM

TBH i'd rather have a simple shell mounted bracket or arm-through-the-shell than either of those.

maniac0796 03-17-2007 05:52 PM

Hmmmm

I have decided, that at the end of the day, they all do the same thing, and not one is better than the other.

Therefore, I don't care, because as long as it holds the tom up, then it's fine.

Drum Phil 03-17-2007 05:57 PM

I think all tom mounts are fundimentally flawed but the pearl Opti-Mounts are probably best.

Or mebe the new Gretsch mounts.

That's a good point. Yes, technically one mounting system might promote a bit more resonance than another.... but i'd say that a lot of the mounting systems are mostly marketing ploys.

Of course.... the 'adjustability' is a big selling point, too. Ball mounts are superior for this reason, IMO

maniac0796 03-17-2007 05:59 PM

Optimounts are good, but they sure as hell take up a lot of the drum.

And scotty, that's why i said i'd have the starcast over the ISS any day. There's a limited amount on maneuverability you can have with the ISS, unless you're willing to pay £30 for a fancy tom arm.

Drum Phil 03-17-2007 06:00 PM

Effeciency over looks.

Corkofski 03-17-2007 06:00 PM

Thats easy, all you need is a wide aperture lense to acheive a small depth of field.

Both of those were done with the camera, not photoshop :)

EDIT: Poopoo, he seems to do a lot of fish eye stuff which is interesting.

These shots were taken either with a Canon EOS 350D + 18-55mm telephoto lense or a Konica Minolta Dynax 5D + 50mm wide aperture lense.
