its true... the only song nicko have used Doubble drum for are Face in the sand... (YES HE DID!!!)
|
Thanks for the info Eddie, but back to the topic. It's true. Nicko's only double bass is for Face in the Sand. If you still don't believe any of us, watch Rock In Rio.
|
... A) i have rock in rio, B) Face in the sand was released AFTER rock in rio.... dumbarse
|
my drummer friend told me that Nicko used "ludwig speed king" single pedals, the same ones Bonham did and that you can get speed on those things that are unthought of on most single pedals...overall, Nicko's drumming is one of a kind :)
|
who cares if he does or doesnt!!! clansman y dont u just buy it from a shop?
|
^^Because he doesn't live in the UK and it's only available here.
Nicko doesn't use a double bass! He probably has the best bass-drum pedal technique in the world... all rolls etc are done with a single bass drum. You can see on the maiden site, it's got The Wickerman live (Drum cam) and you can see he does the chorus with one foot.
I don't care about the Wickerman, it says all over the place that he used one on Face in the Sand. |
http://www.metalmasters.net/i-nicko_mcbrain.html
interview with Nicko taken after the release of DOD, in which he claims he still only uses 1 bass drum pedal because 2 pedals would be too much trouble. go figure. |
It says he only uses a single pedal, not that he's only ever used a single pedal.
The intro is a long intrumental piece with a few Celtic nods and grows into a great crescendo, with Nicko using a double-kick for the first time on an Iron Maiden recording – although he admitted himself that he had suffered a lot playing this song, and would be rather pleased not to have to play it live, which is a shame as it would be a great moment during a concert.
|
i can see him not using one in the 80's and early 90's but on the chorus of "out of the silent planet" hes doing galloping triplets...and i dont see WHY a drummer would go through all the trouble of using a single bass pedal when they could use the double. a double and a single have two different sounds because of the timing, say what you will about it im not believing it.

I have Rock In Rio and I am fully aware that Face in the Sand was released after Rock In Rio. To be precise it was released on September 9, 2003. But I was clarifying that he doesn't use double bass and was using Rock In Rio as a mock verification. Now if you still don't believe me, then go out and buy the new DVD being released in time for Christmas....GAW!!! |
Gaw?
eh... well, i dunno. i DO know that out of the silent planet was with a single bass drum pedal (even though the bass drum is faster then on face in the sand) coz you can hear him opening and closing the hi-hats. |
Hey guys,
I love Iron Maiden, but can't say as I know to much about them. Anything specific I should know? |
know? ok... there's the greatest band in the history of forever, they've got the best bassists and vocalist in rock/metal today, and probably the best drummer aswell. the guitarists are amazing to (all three of them). the band was founded in 1973 by Steve Harris, called Gypsy's Kiss. The band released it's first album in 1980, and the only members who are still in the band who played on that record is the bassist steve harris and the guitarist dave murray.
that enough for you? |
Thx,
I hope I get to know a lot about them. I just did start listening to them, I almost got beat up at a concert when I told a guy i didn't know who they are. |
ahah.... there's some background info in my review of the self-titled album in the cd review forum... you should go check it out.
|
I will
|
Well, if Iron Maiden's bassist can play with inhuman speed and precision with only two fingers, then I'm sure their drummer can do the same thing with a single bass pedal. This band is used to doing more with less.
|
Nicko McBrain is my all-time favourite drummer (not that i play drums, i play guitar)
Who is everyones favourite maiden guitarist?? I personally like Adrian Smith the best overall, probably cos of his style. |
I know its a hard decision but what maiden song does everyone think is the best in thier opinions, im going to have to go with hallow by thy name, or wait um the trooper, wait.. Aces high.. **** i cant decide...
|
the best song is Alexander the Great
|
I cant deside who is my favourite guitarist in Maiden, but here is what I think:
I love the songs that Adrian writes, they are so perfectly thought out!!!! I also Love his Solos becouse they are not just pure showof but they realy fitt the song...... and his wha wha solos!!!!! :naughty: Gers on the other hand is mostly a Great riff writer!! he also plays Great solos but I think that he is my favourite becouse he is shuch a great showman  and I love his personality!!!! and I look a little like him :naughty: Now then Davey: A GREAT Guitar Player!!!!how is it posible to improvise that kin fast man!!! :amaze: he also writes good song when ever he does so!!!! well that is all i can think of now so!!!! Maiden!!!!!! |
Adrian Smith hands down.
Not just due to his leads, but his songwriting is much stronger than Davey and Janicks. |
Adrian Smith. He's my favourite. I don't even know why :)
maybe because he is the most melodic in the band. and his solos fit songs perfectly. does anyone know which solos on Dance of Death belong to Adrian? it seems to me as if he wrote all the solos on DOD :) |
I dont know.... i will say Dave Murray, cause he have never left Iron Maiden, and he's an great guitarist...
Now, The real question is: Who is Iron Maidens Best Bassist?! :D |
I like Dave and Adrian equally. They both have a helluvalot more soul beihnd their playing than Janick does. As for the best song, Aces High. Now their best bassist? I dunno could it be Steve Harris? But that's a trick question because he's the bestest bassist ever.
|
Yes, Steve is the best, hands down
|
Dave plays more solos, I believe, but Adrian writes more songs. Good combination.
|
^^^
just because he has been in the band the longest, but overall id say Adrian / Janick play just as many on the albums as Davey does. On tour it matters what songs are played, like on the "somewhere on tour" dvd Davey only plays a few leads because alot of the songs they picked are mainly ones Adrian plays leads on, and on Rock in Rio Davey plays the majority of the leads...all a matter of whats picked. But i like Adrian's style of playing, and songwriting more than any other guitarist in the band. IMO hes the strongest asset to Iron Maiden save Steve and Bruce. |
Meh, as a bassist I'm not very concerned with the guitarists when they're not soloing...
|
ok... who else loves steve harris?
|
you have no idea how much i love Steve Harris lol
|
you cant't not like Steve, but for some reason his bass lines started to get a lot more simplified over time, I mean look at the stuff off of Killers then the stuff of Somwhere In Time I'm a bassist though and I love the guitar haromies that Maiden have, it is pleasure for the ears.

the bass licks on Somewhere in Time are every bit are rough to play as the ones on Killers, he gets much more brutal triplets on caught somewhere in time than he did on any Killer's tracks, and how he follows the guitars on the lonliness of hte long distance runner is wonderful. i dont know what the hell your talking about, this comming from a bassiest of many years. Even his bass lines on Brave New World are fantastic, speed isnt everything nor is how many notes he can hit when doing a fill, its how well his bass lines fit the song and Steve continues to do that no matter how Maiden evolve. |
The Dance of Death bass is nice :)
|
Did Janick ever leave Iron Maiden?
What i meant was that Dave have always been with Maiden. (i think he quited for like... a month back in 1979... :p ) |

They have to fit the songs... He usually writes them..... so realy its the guitars fitting the bass :p |
i like Steve. but i think the sound of his bass is too loud. it hurts my ears :) (SaRcaSM)
|
Ah... im afraid of buying any Blaze album of the net, becouse i could aswell get an album from some 'kin rapper...
|
They have to fit the songs... He usually writes them..... so realy its the guitars fitting the bass :p
EXACTLY!!! like they describe his sound as "a lead bass" , judging that Steve writes the largest majority of the material the guitars are normally written after the bass lines. but in cases like "wasted years" or "sea of madness" where Adrian wrote the whole song, it leaves Steve room to roam with his bass and thow in fills where necessary...which is the part of his playing i like. |
