Gang Starr is on my list of artists to check out.

Gangstarr are definantly worth looking into. Guru has such a cool laid back style and DJ Premier has awesome jazzy beats.

Check out Ex Girl To Next Girl.

What I like about Gang Starr, to me, is they have that 90s hiphop feel to them.

AND he did a song with Big L?! that's earned alot of respect.

argh, this terrible older "Trick Daddy" song is on tv right now. its the one where he stole the tune from "Boogie Shoes". Its so bad and none of the lyrics flow nicely with the song for the most part.

The Roots are pretty outstanding, I'm really liking an instrumental album of theirs I happened across.

I'm a newbie to hip hop music but I'm lovin De la Soul's Three Feet High And Rising at the moment.

Is there any other similar albums that I should be checking out?

that De La Soul album is great. I'm nt Hip hop expert, but it sounds like you would like the same kinda upbeat Hip Hop that I like. start off with accessible artists/groups like;

Jurrassic 5
The Roots
Outkast
Dilated Peoples
Dangerdoom / MF Doom

You've probably heard all these guys before, but they're a few of my favorites. Then if you like all that, try out some of the underground artists that i'm sure the other guys can suggest.

De La Soul were part of some movement in hiphop in the early 90s that was called Native Tongues. This movement was comprised of some 4 or 5 groups:

De La Soul
A Tribe Called Quest
Jungle Brothers
Black Sheep
3rd Bass

These are all pretty similar in style to early De La Soul, at least their early work, stay away from new work by the Jungle Brothers. You can't go wrong with their first 3 or 4 albums though. :)

That's basically all his songs. Well, he claims he never wrote anything down, so he may have planned out some of his raps in his head, but still that would be ridiculous to do for an entire song, let alone every song.

On another note, I was at Lollapalooza this weekend and I saw Lyrics Born (who was allright, but most of his set consisted of "say yeahhhhh! Say ohhhh!"), Blackalicious, Common, and Kanye. It was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

How were blackalicious and Kanye? I saw Common on the live stream, he ruled. Plus his DJ was amazing!

I was almost front row for Blackalicious, they were real sweet. They had two singers/dancers with them, and then a skinny white guy in a tie on the keys. He was ridiculously out of place, but they were awesome. Gab freestyled for like 3 minutes, and it was basically ridiculous.

Kanye was good, but he had sound problems at first and we could abrely hear his voice. After awhile he just went "We have a successful tour and then we come back to MY city and y'all fuc[font=font]k[/font] up the sound?!? Whoever is doing sound tonight will NOT be doing it again, I promise you that" and it was better afterwards. He brought out Twista, Lupe Fiasco, and the frontman of some up-and-coming rap group I didn't catch the name of.

I was mad at Kanye for getting my hope up though. After one of the songs, all the lights went out and everyone was cheering for like 30 seconds, then strobes started flashing and stuff and Kanye's dj started playing the sample that goes "Allow my to reintroduce myself, my name is HOV, H to the OV, I used to move snowflakes..." And I completely lost it. I was fully expecting Jay to come out right then, but no such luck.

As for Common, he was one of my favorite performances of the weekend, and I almost missed him for the Flaming Lips. Common and Broken Social Scene were probably my top 2.

You missed the Flaming Lips? Everyone I know who has seen them think they are the best band they've ever seen live! common was excellent though, and sounds like you had a great time.

I really wanted to go to Lollpalooza, but I kinda live in England. I'm goin to Reading Festival in a few weeks, and I should get to see Broken Social Scene there.
