Hmmm... it is tough, I admit.

Exciter, Better By You Better Than Me and Stained Class are all iconic JP songs.

However, as an album, Stained Class simply can't rival the non-stop awesomeness of Painkiller.

And besides, my favourite "classic" Priest album is still Sad Wings Of Destiny. ;)
You don't consider Stained Class to be "classic" Priest? I mean it was only a few years after Sad Wings and in the 70's era.

As far as the Painkiller and Stained Class debate goes, it depends on my mood. If I wanna headbang then I'll put Painkiller on. If I want some foot tapping addictive music, then I'll put Stained Class on. If I had to choose I'd say Stained Class. It was the second Priest album I got after British Steel, so I was pleasantly suprised as you can expect.

I'd highlight where I said "favourite classic Priest album" in my post, thereby saying that although Stained Class is a classic era Priest album, I still prefer Sad Wings Of Destiny to be my favourite, but you can just look at your quote and see that. :)

And yeah, it depends on the mood, too.

Haven't seen you on the forums for a while, actually.

Ahhh, now I see! I was just reading that a bit wrong. Probably cause I can't believe someone would choose Sad Wings over Stained Class :p

But then again, you think Ram It Down is a great album. You're not to be trusted!

Yeah, I don't frequent the forums as much anymore due to work and such. Anyway, the forums have gone downhill... letting Jonny boy win RMOTM? blasphemy I say.

Apocalyptic Raids 04-28-2006 03:49 AM

:'(

you'll pay.

Rrrrrrr 04-30-2006 10:51 PM

Man, I can't believe I never noticed how good Les Binks' drumming on White Heat, Red Hot is. The song's got some nice riffs too.

Riva 05-01-2006 02:23 AM

Priest have had some good drummers in their time.

Apocalyptic Raids 05-01-2006 03:12 AM

Double bass on Exciter = Win.

Not to mention Scott Travis.

ThrashMaster27 05-01-2006 05:30 AM

Yeah, Les Bink is probably my fave Priest drummer, even if Scott Travis would run rings around him speed wise.

Shame about Dave Holland. In more ways than one...

hahaha indeed.

Laztec 05-01-2006 10:56 AM

can anyone recommend any priest album in the style of "painkiller" ? Thanks

Deth 05-01-2006 11:02 AM

Ram it Dowm is probably the closest, but check out Judas Rising and Hellrider from the new album as well.

damn beat me to it.

Riva 05-01-2006 05:19 PM

Painkiller, so far, has been fairly unique.

-The Frank 05-02-2006 01:24 AM

So, i just bought british steel and to be honest i was a bit dissapointed.

though i havent really given it a proper listen...

Apocalyptic Raids 05-02-2006 03:38 AM

Metal Gods is my favourite off that album.

ThrashMaster27 05-02-2006 04:38 AM
Metal Gods is my favourite off that album.
Pfft, Grinder by far.

British Steel is an average album. It's pushed up quite high on my Priest list cause it was the first album I heard of theirs. Infact, it's in my top 5... or maybe 6.

Well since the only other priest album i own is painkiller, i expected alot different.

Riva 05-02-2006 05:01 AM

Well, Breakin' The Law contains one of the most iconic metal riffs of the '80s.

Metal Gods is great, yes, but Grinder is for the win.

And Painkiller is fairly unique for Judas Priest. British Steel is fairly representative of their transition period from hard rock to speed metal.

Apocalyptic Raids 05-02-2006 07:53 AM

Get Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class and Screaming For Vengeance, Frank. They are all tops.

Deth 05-02-2006 07:28 PM

^^Troof

I like British Steel. It ain't intellectual, but when I need a quick metal burst it fits perfectly.

Rapid Fire and Metal Gods are the best off the album FYI.
can anyone recommend any priest album in the style of "painkiller" ? Thanks
In addition to the ones recommended by the others, check out Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith. Not really Painkiller style, but they have their share of speed.

-The Frank 05-03-2006 04:26 AM
Get Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class and Screaming For Vengeance, Frank. They are all tops.
Screaming for vengence and Sad wings of destiny were actually the next two albums i was planning on buying anyway. I might go out in the next week and try pick them up. :thumb:

Apocalyptic Raids 05-03-2006 04:28 AM

Excellent.

I still need to buy Sad Wings :upset:

-The Frank 05-03-2006 04:32 AM
Excellent.

I was going for sad wings but british steel was only $15 where as Sad wings was $23.

At that point i really just wanted more priest, so i didnt mind since i wanted to get british steel anwyay

Riva 05-03-2006 06:12 AM

Sad Wings of Destiny is just so gosh darn awesome, though.

Apocalyptic Raids 05-03-2006 07:37 AM

The tracks I've heard (the ones on UITE) are bloody amazing.

Saxon Priest 05-05-2006 10:12 AM

Glenn Tipton plays some of my favourite solos; Electric Eye, Painkiller, Beyond the Realms of Death, Exciter and Demonizer to say a few.

Deth 05-05-2006 10:19 AM

I've always been more of a Downing fan myself. It's weird how we don't know who wrote what riff though.

Saxon Priest 05-05-2006 11:11 AM

I think Glenn has more style and more agility with his fingers, don't get me wrong K.K is decent but I feel Glenn is better.

Riva 05-06-2006 07:17 PM

I like Glenn better, really. Like Saxon said, he's got more flair.

Apocalyptic Raids 05-06-2006 07:19 PM

From watching Rising In The East, I would also say Glenn.

Deth 05-06-2006 07:26 PM

God, I feel like an idiot. Yeah, it's Glen I prefer. I mixed them up for some reason.

Riva 05-06-2006 07:31 PM

The solo on Ram It Down is a monster though.

Rrrrrrr 05-10-2006 02:18 PM

Hot Rockin has such an awesome solo. I can't think of any other instance where pinch harmonics actually sound so damned catchy.

/waits to be ripped up by Riva for speaking well of Point of Entry

Lunch 05-10-2006 02:21 PM

I just bought Screaming for Vengeance yesterday. Awesome album.

Bub 05-10-2006 02:25 PM

What's mx's opinion on the idea for the new album?
Check the official site www.judaspriest.com for information

The concept album idea on the works of Nostradamus.
Not much info is given but we cna speculate what we'll expect it to be like

Hehe, Point of Entry has it's good parts. You may speak well of it. Hot Rockin' is a great song.

Yes, that was a brilliant blind buy on your part.

The Hellion/Electric Eye is one of my favourite Priest tracks.

I'm skeptical, but I'm sure it will be good. It will either be the best thing they've made or the cheesiest thing ever, which is still fine I suppose.

Apocalyptic Raids 05-10-2006 07:37 PM

I agree with what Deth said.
