i miss old sum 41, back with there spikey hair, red white and blue wristbands, and famous stars and straps shirts. All Killer No Filler was my first punkish album and i loved Sum 41 as they were my favorite band for a good 3 years. No matter how hard i try i can't get into the new "metal/rock" sum 41. What happened to the bouncy punk pop songs they used to write like "In Too Deep" "Fat Lip" "Makes No Difference" and "Nothing On My Back". They were fun loving goof balls and that's what made them so cool. Now there all "serious". That's what we have punk rock and emo for. Don't get me wrong, theyve really grown as musicians i just wish they didnt change so much and lose there punk pop ways to do it.

well they're attitude is still very much the same as it was in the old days, you notice this when you see them live now. But I can't say I agree with you, I prefer new Sum 41, as I've said before in this thread, Sum 41's music evolved with my taste, so I'm happy about that. I still love old Sum 41 but I think songs like Makes No Difference and In Too Deep are just a little bit too poppy for me to handle sometimes, depends what kind of mood I'm in. This thread is now 41 pages long. That's awesome. :thumb: |

they just got into other types of music, thus becoming DTLI and C and there you go |

That's awesome. :thumb:
for me, it wasn't that their music evolved with my taste, it was that my taste evolved with their music, I listened to DTLI and them my brother introduced me to Shadows Fall for the second time and then I loved metal, the first time I couldn't stand it, now I listen to bands like Killswitch Engage, Between The Buried And Me, Bury Your Dead, and some other great metal artists, but I never got into rock, it makes me mad, I like Pop-punk, punk, and metal, weird, but DTLI and C are the albums that helped me on my way to heavier things. This is why they are my favorite ever bands, they kept me from rapping with rappers and popping with poppers. |

just so that you know, my name has two s's on basic, making it bassic, not like I really care, but you keep saying basic, it's unimportant though yeah, I am a true fan, my background in my computer is sum 41, my screen saver is sum 41, my avatar/title is sum 41, my name on my comp is Sum 41 Mosh, (though it's not my screen name, I should make it that, but I have three already) and I...yeah, I think you guys have the idea. |
saw them a few months back. it was awsome. when deryk was singing pieces he was at the last line where he goes "That I am better of on my- *boom*" someone threw a shoe at him and he fell over. he then got up and said " it's ok i didn't need that tooth anyways" . quite a funny experience and i thought i'd share that with you guys because i'm bored.

That's cool that you were at that concert, I read a review of it. It was in Toronto right? |

it's okay, it wasn't a big deal, if you kept saying basic I would've just been like ".....ok...ay....." and not cared at all. |
i'm still pissed that i didn't get to go to the show.
sum 41 =the bassic bassist thread
or the bassic bassist = sum 41 thread, that actually makes more sense but for goodness sake people, lets get some convos going, I can only hope that this thing stays open who here has Make Sum Noize? I think it's their dvd live in Japan, not sure though |
i don't have it. what do you guys think of "some say" being the next single?
i think they could've had a better song, although it is still a good song. |
I have Cross The T's and Gouge Your Eyes... It's pretty sweet, actually. I let my friend borrow it, and one day I asked for it back and he gave me the case. He said the DVD was around there somewhere. I'm still pissed I haven't gotten it back.
I want to get the Introduction To Destruction DVD, it sounds so kickass |
what was the dvd that came with dtli? because my friend got one when he bought it. when i bought it, i didnt get one. :(

yeah, with the unedited version it was Cross Your Ts and Gouge Your Eyes which was just a bunch of random video crap of them doing their thing. With the edited version it was them Live at the Astoria, it was a live show that was really short but really cool. Sucks that you didn't get one. |

So guys, I'm going to camp for a week starting tommorrow and ending on saturday, this thread had better be on the first page when I get back, y'all hears?
I think I'm sick and fucking tired of their slow songs getting nominated as singles, give me some No Reason dammit
i agree, no reason would have been a good single. I know they would never have the bitter end as a single so that one is out of the question, but even open your eyes would have been a great single. |
Pieces is a good song, but then all the stupid girls who just watch MTV hear it and think 'OH MY GOD, I LOVE SUM 41!'
Then they'll download other Sum 41 songs, like The Bitter End, Open Your Eyes, Angels with dirty faces then think 'OH MY GOD, I HATE SUM 41!' |
wouldn't doubt it. does sum 41 get alot of air time on mtv? i dont get mtv where i live.
|
They do sometimes, I see them alot on MTV2, but not MTV. So its not like a lot of people watch it. Unless you get MTV2 free.
|
sum 41 is my fav band and they need to relase a song like angels or no reason or open your eyes because pieces and some say are bad repreenataitons of the rest of the album. i dont watch mtv but on the radio station i listen to for rock were all to blame got minimal air time and that was prolly the best single of the 3 and 1 of the best of the album...if they wanted to sell out again wut was fine with me cuz idc but they coulda made another aknf album and not just release 2 of the 3 slowest songs from chuck. my view on chuck is also probably some wasted potential...and not enough guitar solos...
|

truer words were never spoken by the way everybody, this was on the second page...shame :D |

I went to this cabin once and that had stallite and The Fuse played Pieces every day about four times, other than that I don't know |

try to use less initials for normal conversation, you can use it for album titles, and spell "prolly" as "Probably", I promise that the veterans will treat you more normal if you do your views are close to correct, but I don't think that they had wasted potential so said, I think they did a great job |
I know Fat Lip was on TRL... but i read about that in their bio or something, it mentioned them celebrating with pizza and pop...
i watch mtv and mtv2, and never see sum 41. i dont even see them at all on tv... it sucks. lol yea, people would like pieces, but hear the GOOD songs like bitter end, welcome to hell, no reason, and were all to blame, and think sum 41 isn't that good... oh well, they're rock. but chuck is sweet. i want to see another sum 41 concert... i hope they come back soon and i hope my idiot friend returns my frickin dvd already... im like suffering from sum 41 withdrawal... and i want ITD... |
going by their dvd Sake Bombs and Happy Endings, they have alot of energy and are a faily solid live band. In terms of backing vocals, i'd love to see some of their songs played closer to the CD versions (eg No Reason, Thanks For Nothing, Still Waiting...), i can't see why cone wouldn't love to really get into the songs and scream along with them like on the CDs. "THESE EYES have seen no conviction... JUST LIES and more contradiction..."
oh well. my one gripe is deryck's (sp?) voice, obviously you're not gonna be the same live as in the studio but man some songs he should really work on. |
Any of you guys feel you don't get the respect you deserve? Then join Gor'f Gangsters, and all that will change. Juts put Gorf's Gangsters in your user title and get ready to kick ass.
Oh, and just so some whiney loser dosen't complain, I'll try to kepp this post on topic. Sum 41's song with Iggy Pop was ok, but got old quick. And the new video is pretty emo, but the song is ok. |
