Dogs is my all time favorite along with Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-7. One of These Days is pretty cool too. As for my favorite lyric from Floyd its probably " And when you lose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sewn. And as the fear grows, the bad blood slowly turns to stone" from Dogs. As for the sax, Dick Parry was amazing. Us and Them, Shine On, Money, and many other songs wouldn't be so great if it wasn't for that Tenor Sax. Amazing.
I fecking love the intro for "One Of These Days"

"One of these days I'm gonna git' you!!!!!!!!!!!" <awesome

Distant Echoes 12-18-2004 10:13 AM

Dick Perry was just as much a genius in that band as all the others.

I actually transcribed the sax parts in DArk Side of the Moon for guitar...and their pretty though. Especially in money, theres parts where i have to tap, Whammy bar, Pull of and hammer on, bend, all that stuff in one short minute. Its actually the hardest part of the song, i just cant get my guitar to sound like a frikking sax.

Sheep, what a song.
I never thought it dwindled, like most really long songs do.

Distant Echoes 12-18-2004 10:22 AM

I specifically like the end of sheep, the loud guitar chords until they fade out into pigs on the wing.

I had such a hard time finding that album too. when i did, it cost 18 bucks! Now i think thats a rip, as well as Meddle, especially since thats pre-DSOTM era. I dont understand the concept of pricing floyd albums at all.

hypocracy hater 12-18-2004 10:24 AM

Has anybody got 'Atom Heart Mother' because im thinking of getting it and i want to know what its like.

Same here, probbably one of their best songs.
Allthough it was really easy to find, and was only £6.99 (maybe about $10?)

I haven't got it,
I've heard the song "Mother" though, it's pretty good.
Anyway, Dave Gilmour said this about it:
"When I look back on it, Atom Heart Mother was a pile of crap"
That's on the back of a dvd I've got, i dunno if he was being serious or not.

To i am jimmy page

Heres prices and avalability i have to live with

Meddle $17, seen it once about 2 years ago
DSOTM $13 Everywere, even target (with worst CD selection ever)
WYWH $15 Almost everywere, usually with DSOTM
Animals $18 Seen it twice a couple years ago. Picked up the last copy a few months ago
The Wall $32 If it is somewere, theres only 1 or 2 copies left anyway

all the big time retail stores are all into new music, and even the smaller music stores like FYE and Sam Goody. Its a tragedy to music

the other one 12-18-2004 10:36 AM

What would be the best album to get first?

That's pretty competitive I gotta say,
The wall over here is £10 ($14?) which is pretty cheap, last year i got lots of music vouchers and bought a crap-load of classic rock albums, it's so awesome them being this cheap...

Don't take Gilmour's word for it, I bought "The soft parade" even though everyone said it was crap.

Echoes,
the greatest hits,
I know I'll get slated for saying this, you can't have a "Best Of" of Pink floyd, but this is a good all round collection.
You can listen to every track off it their and make up your mind:cool::thumb:

echoes - best of

then see what are your fav songs and buy those albums :thumb:

Distant Echoes 12-18-2004 10:41 AM

Im planning on purchasing all the albums rather than having them burned...just cause i like the artwork, the band, and it gives me somethin to be proud of...until they change the entire music format to something smaller and more confusing so ill have to buy all my music all over again.

Dam Mp3s and Ipods...Burn in Hell!!
...
did i mention i want one?

BludgeonySteve 12-18-2004 10:44 AM

Hehe, yeah I choose to buy my albums as apposed to burn them. I'm a bit of a collecter as well. It just doesn't feel right to have a blank disc sitting on my shelf.

I have every Doors and Zeppelin album,
I'm working towards every Pink Floyd one now though,
I doubt I'll get "The Division Bell" though,
from what I've heard it's pretty poor,
unless someone can argue me into purchasing that is:p

Distant Echoes 12-18-2004 10:45 AM

To hypocracy

I would personally never get a best of album. Floyd albums are made with concepts, best of albums would be too jumbled to enjoy. I never enjoy listening to a floyd song without hearing the entire album with it. I would say

DSOTM which will take a while to get used to the first time
The Wall which you should understand the story before listening
Animals
Wish you were Here

then whatever from there. Wish you were here is a hard album to just appreciate, especially when your totally new to floyds style. Welcome to the Machine is my fav song on the album, but i dont just listen to it, i hear the whole album.

Floyd is one of them bands the last song wouldnt of been half as good if the next or previous one wasnt there. The concepts are what make it as good as it is

Same here,
it doesn't look right does it?
The only album I've ever downloaded was a Lyrnyrd Skynyrd greatest Hits.
Even now I don't listen to it that much,
I prefer the PURCHASHED ( ) "Pronounced Leh-nerd Skeh-nerd."

BludgeonySteve 12-18-2004 10:48 AM

Pfft, I got my Lynyrd Skynrd greatest hits for $7 ;). You could have easily bought it ;)

Each to their own. I was suggesting that because theres like 4 songs from each album so buy that album if you like that group of song. :)

I do have that album. Its there last one (1994) And its really not that bad. there defintaly trying to get intact with there earlier stuff, but my fav songs on the album are high hopes, Marooned, and What do you want from Me. I think i did a review on it actually. Why dont you check it out, but its defintaly far from there best album.
They asked a roadie, Studio Manager, and a think one of there band members several questions in the studio and put some of there answers in certain places on the CD. Those are all them guys talking you here in Speak to Me, Great Gig, Brain Damage and Eclipse
Waters asked normal people, like people off the street, as well. It turns out that Wings was in the same studio one day, so he asked their guitarist some questions. He gives the line that says "I don't know I was really drunk at the time." I never knew about the one at the very end though, that's pretty sweet. :thumb:

I prefer buying cds too. Right now I have Meddle, DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall, and Animals. I'm getting Ummagumma for christmas and probably Piper At The Gates Of Dawn after that. And I don't think you should go with Echoes. Doesn't seem right buying a Floyd greatest hits album.

Tr00f, buying Echoes would be a terrible idea. Buying each CD is more worth it. Most of them having a main concept, which would be messed up on a greatest hits CD.

DeusExMachina 12-18-2004 02:00 PM

I Am Jimmy Page, get The Division Bell! Whoever said it's bad is LYING. Even Roger Waters said it was good. And he hated everyone in that band.

I also prefer to own CD's as opposed to burning them. Burning them just feels wrong.

Hypocracy Hater, I have Atom Heart Mother. I really like it. Cool instrumental stuff.

Distant echoes - *does jedi mind tricks* you will send me those sax tabs... you want to send me those tabs...

Also, I am morally opposed to buying Echoes. I just don't like the idea of a Pink Floyd Greatest Hits. The albums are too much about the mood they make.

NO! the best floyd cd ever is animals, not the division bell! the band was at its best when roger waters was still in the band and they're newer stuff just hasn't been the same since he left.
