When is the dvd supposed to come out?
November 16. But! yesterday i read that there is ANOTHER APC dvd coming out sometime in the future. This one will actually include live footage from their Thirteenth Step tour and Mer De Noms era...from their first tour i think i heard which was in either '99 or '00 with NIN. The dvd coming out in November i think will only include "The Noose" live and some extra stuff like their video collection, i think i heard. ..and some pictures or something that they took whilel touring...not an entire live concert as orginally thought. So now there is another dvd to look forward to...i don't know exactly when though.

No, check this out:
"First off, what happened to all the footage the band taped on the most recent tour and where's the live DVD? The answer to that one is: It's coming. The band intends to put together a proper live performance DVD compiled from footage from both the Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step eras of touring. It may be awhile though; the band will take their time with it and first let these upcoming releases (eMOTIVe and aMOTION) run their course." --- www.aperfectcircle.net

I don't really think Maynard is the actual mastermind behind the lyrics and theories. I believe it is Adam and Danny. I would like to talk to Adam about Metaphysics and I would like to talk to Danny about Saunierre.......

an_underused_memory 09-30-2004 07:22 PM

^^^^ I agree with stagegfright...
I think Maynard is the lord of the poetry/final ideas but reading danny's site its certain that he has a big input to the broad theories....
So i think maynard is the mastermind of the lyrics, but not the theories, tool as band seem to all be exploring slightly different areas that come together as the braod ideas in songs....

Otherside 09-30-2004 07:23 PM

The thing about Tool is how the different members play their own way, yet it all comes together to form wonderful music.

sgrevs 09-30-2004 08:01 PM

are there any deeper meanings to their videos? i mean there must be and its not all just random crap thrown around

any ideas people?
are there any deeper meanings to their videos? i mean there must be and its not all just random crap thrown around

I have always been thinking about that. I know there is some meaning to it. There hasn't been much discussion at all about the videos on this thread. So lets get some talk started. I'm gonna watch em agian, and see what I think.

sgrevs 09-30-2004 09:06 PM

the video for Ænima is weird but its got lots of water. song seems to hav sumthin to do with floodin away stuff n the like. must be some sort of link...no?

malignant5150 09-30-2004 09:13 PM

^^^ yeah because the song is basically talks about him wanting la to "flush away" so yeah id think it would have water in it....

BurtonChancellor 09-30-2004 11:41 PM

Ænima
the video for Ænima is weird but its got lots of water. song seems to hav sumthin to do with floodin away stuff n the like. must be some sort of link...no?
Well, if you want to understand the meaning behind that, just listen closely to the lyrics of the song, or look them up and take a read. The entire song is a Maynard rant against LA/California, and his wish that the entire state will be "flushed away". If you actually have the album (Ænima), then lift up the CD and look underneath it. It's a hologram of California disappearing off the map under the ocean.

ænima 10-01-2004 12:12 AM

yeah thats right i was gonna say the hole thing about California disappearing but you said it or me

an_underused_memory 10-01-2004 07:55 AM

The whole idea of flushing LA away is a Bill Hicks line....on one of his tours, he talks about how evil LA is and he can't way for the day that god will flush it away, like when he flooded the world in the noah bible story, because it was too full of sin.
The San Andreas fault is one of the most volatile in the world, and it will eventually crack enough to submerge california....but probably not in our lifetime.
Unless something unusual happens.....

deadohiosky9 10-01-2004 09:19 PM

Hence the line "learn to swim"

/Ps my new user title pwns, doesn't it?

Lachrymology

I haven't seen this mention yet...Lachrymology "the sheading of tears." Supposedly this is what TOOL's music is really about, not just about their views of how un-compassionate religion is these days. But in the lyrics Maynard tries to get across that putting yourself in a vulnerable position, and learning and growing from the pain that has come your way. He mentions about crucifying the ego, which deals with meditation, also when he says, "the moon tells me a secret, your confident." Where does the moon get its light from? The sun...where does your confidence get its light from your ego. And to truly step aside from individuality (in my opinion seems hard) and to connect yourslef with everything around you. To understand better of 46 & 2 and everything TOOL is trying to get across watch the movie. Pi -faith in chaos-

TOOL- the band decided to name themsleves this because they wanted to teach the listerners (us) about Lachrymology, they wanted to be a tool (shed)

-peace-

p.s. yes TOOL is brillant, but their not everything, all you...go outside and do something productive.

The Flabbit Rides High 10-02-2004 04:55 PM

Yesterday, I bought Aenima.

And the other day, i bought Lateralus, without even knowing anything about Tool.

Imagine my suprise.

I'll put more once I think of some. But that Tool Pantheon site goes into good detail on Tool's philosophoes and the philosophy behind Lateralus.

Tool videos

Someone mentioned Tool's videos and I think they're definitely worth discussing.

Just watch the Parabol/Parabola video. In my eyes it is full of symbols and a piece of art in it self (perhaps it is another way of conveying the same as is conveyed through the lyrics and music?)

I find it hard to understand the video (harder than the song it self), but does anyone know what it's all about???

P.S. English is my second language so don't kill me if I fail to write correctly :)

an_underused_memory 10-03-2004 07:21 AM

About lachrimology:
as far as I know, the commonly held veiw is that its a hoax concoted by the members of tool - no one has been able to find any record of the reference books they mentioned in relation to it.
BUT - the thing is, it seems a great theory to me: advancement through tears? its like saying "no pain, no gain"; like the native American Indian sweat lodge rituals of placing yourself in discomfort in order to bring the world to a better blace, like some eastern mediation forms...
Is it a case of tool being so good at bull****ting that even when they do, they stumble across something deep?
or is it true, and the reason no one can find the books is because danny/blair found it (he's a rare book collector so has access to resources others don't)

Or does it matter either way? I got something out of it, i think its a valid idea, and whether its invented by tool in 98 or some author in 28, or some other time entirely, that doesn't change my response.

Flabbit: what was your reaction to the presumable sensory overload of 2 new tool albums within a week? its like trying acid and mushrooms, for the first time, on the same night!

bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbump

I bought the second string tribute album this weekend, and the results vary i must say. Most of the Undertow songs are really well done, but some of the more complex sounding songs (stinkfist, Lateralus) lose it a bit. Anyone else got it, or the first one?

Adam Jones is GOD 10-04-2004 12:39 PM

I would send you something, but it would take a while, each of my tool tracks are 30MB as I wanted them down in their best quality. But i did send a live one over Gmail a while ago, so I could send it again

Adam Jones is GOD 10-04-2004 12:43 PM

The live one is a lot smaller, as it was one I downloaded from a site. Ill add you now in any case.

I've got both of them, but the first one is the better of the two. For some reason, maybe the one you stated, the second just didn't hook me like the first one did. Maybe I'll listen to it later and find out.

Yeah, and the oklahoma panhandle is inaccurate. It's weird how maynard hates LA/California, when he lives in LA.

Adam Jones is GOD 10-04-2004 03:45 PM

Even though I live in England, I can tell LA is the sell out phoney capital of the world, arguably

dude im sure that the GB of space gmail provides is enough for 30MB or even an intire album of 30mb tracks...

an_underused_memory 10-04-2004 06:07 PM

to me, LA is a symbol for all that glitters but is not gold...
everything there seems a facade from here in sydney...like a movie set - you've got a regular looking place, but walk round the back and its just a fake front...

hmmm n string tributes....i'm a classical muso, and i didn't really love either of the cds...but there's enough good ones over 2 cds to make one good compilation, so i think i will do so...

Reactor158 10-05-2004 07:44 AM

I just bought Lateralus last week, having heard almost no Tool before, except for H and Schism occasionally on the radio. I have to say it's an incredible album.

^^ Yeah, Lateralus is infact a great album....you should really try to get Aenima also. That is my personal favorite Tool album followed by Lateralus....I'm more than sure you'll really like it.

Theres a whole section on Lachrymology on Tool's official page, actually its at the page where you can choose between the "Dissectional" art site, and the official real site, you know, the page with the brain. The section on Lachrymology is hidden on that page, but it shouldn't to hard to find for the rest of you puzzle solving Tool fans. :)

i def. agree with you on that one!!! Ænema is good if you havent actually sat and had the great experience of listening to Maynards voice....on the other hand Lateralus is so deep and i love it! but every TOOL album is kick @$$ is my opinion...

Both are correct for Tool titles, one is the album title, the other is the song title.

Ænima = Album
Ænema = Song
