Low, if you ask me. Both albums are quite inconsistent at times. (IMO)

i would have to agree with you that the songs on junta are great, but they sound so much better live instead of studio

e p 06-05-2005 11:32 PM

Of course man.

Thats bassically understood when youre talking about phish :p

I was talking about their studio work, which is whayt I think the question was

6Stringer 06-09-2005 01:04 PM

Shameless bump.

6Stringer 06-09-2005 07:07 PM

Does anyone own Garcia, Grisman & Rice's The Pizza Tapes CD? Is it good? I'm looking for a copy of it right now and want to hear other's opinions.

Badmoon 06-09-2005 07:15 PM

I have it; it's interesting, ocassionally funny, and there's a handful of good songs, but there's better Garcia & Grisman albums.

I could post it in the YSI thread if you want, not right now though.

6Stringer 06-09-2005 07:22 PM

That'd be nice if you could, what are some other Garcia & Grisman albums you recommend badmoon?

Badmoon 06-09-2005 07:24 PM

I really like Been All Around this World and Shady Grove. Those would be my favorites.

e p 06-09-2005 08:07 PM

Lollapalooza in Grant Park.

*craps self*

The fact that WSP are there is enough to get me to buy tickets, let alone Cake, G Love, Black Keys, Soulive, etc.

You goin Badmoon?

Badmoon 06-09-2005 08:10 PM

Probably not. I never end up going to anything, and I would suspect that the tickets would be sold out now, or soon; they've been out for awhile.

Drive-By Truckers are there too. :)

keep on phishin' 06-09-2005 08:31 PM

Oh man, it all starts tomorrow!

BlackFlag88 06-09-2005 11:03 PM

would any of you consider bands like mr. bungle jam? haha maybe a stupid question but my brother is really into jam but i was wondering if mr. bungle could be classified as jam and if not then i don't know..don't nail me to the cross please :-D

I really don't think so. I've never heard Mr. Bungle called a jam band nor associated with other jam bands.

(don't crucify me if I'm wrong here)

Badmoon 06-09-2005 11:15 PM

Much more of an Alternative band :)

Jam Band isn't really a description (Ex. They Jam = Jam Band), it's more than that; it's a genre or a grouping.

*doesn't think that makes sense* :(

BlackFlag88 06-09-2005 11:15 PM

haha i don't know...i bought the cd california and it just reminded me of a lot of jam bands so i was wondering what you all had to say and if you'd heard of them

It made sense to me :)

Badmoon 06-09-2005 11:19 PM

Yeah, I have Disco Volante and s/t, and sure there are one or two similarities, but otherwise, they're pretty different.

BlackFlag88 06-09-2005 11:21 PM

see i haven't really heard those so i don't know how big of a difference there is between those and california but i do know that they're really expiermental so who knows....* head spins*

jpj 06-09-2005 11:21 PM

I just listened to The Grand Pecking Order, and I thought it was pretty good. It had some definite highlights, but it seemed to grow repetitive at times. The live stuff I've heard was tons better.

Just thought I'd tell you.

Yeah its ok.

I have some live in New Orleans which is great.

california is tamer than the other two. self titled is immature and eclectic and odd. disco volante is weird as hell. california has actual songs that follow a structure and what not.

i wouldnt classify them as a jam band.

TheDMV 06-10-2005 04:31 PM

I've heard like one Oysterhead song. Claypool has so many side projects, I can't figure out if Primus is together or not.

e p 06-10-2005 11:52 PM

Badmoon you really should check out blues fest downtown. :)

wanton 06-11-2005 07:22 PM

Everyone go to http://xmradio.com/, click "Listen Now," sign up for the 3 day trial, and tune in to Channel 51 for Bonnaroo, if you don't have XM Radio. Panic is playing now.

6Stringer 06-11-2005 07:37 PM

"Lola Leave Your Light On" - Govt Mule is on right now on XM Radio, channel 51.

I read on the Bonnaroo site that Panic was on now. I can't listen right now because my headphones won't work, so I don't know for sure.

Daniel! 06-11-2005 08:51 PM

I'm signing up right now.

Daniel! 06-11-2005 09:09 PM

Cooooool. Th Black Crowes are playing.

jpj 06-11-2005 10:47 PM

Right now on Channel 51 they're playing Gov't Mule at the 9:30 Club. Anyone know when or if Bonaroo will be on again?

I think Bonnaroo is on a rain delay. But don't take my word for it.

Wasn't yesterday the last day for it anyway?

Walrus Gumboot 06-13-2005 08:05 AM

Do any of you know any colleges that have a good Jam Band scene? I can only think of UVM

I downloaded Grand Pecking Order, listened to it once or twice, and didn't like it, so I deleted it. I may give it another chance eventually though.

No, but in Mason Town, WV (real close to Morgantown, home of WVU) they have The All Good Music Festival every year, which features many fantastic jam bands.

I wanted to go, but you know...mommy and daddy didn't like the whole in the woods for 3 days with hippies thing.

Badmoon 06-13-2005 12:26 PM

6Stringer, incase you hadn't seen it...

robo2448 06-13-2005 05:36 PM

I read an article about it in the NY Times, it sounded awesome.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-13-2005 06:20 PM
