Early anathema was always a lot more doom than the other early doom/death bands. I love the first album and EPs. Can't help but think they went a bit boring with The Silent Enigma and then a bit crap.

NP - still Orodruin. This band is just amazing.

Txus 04-12-2006 08:25 AM

Yeah, I think Crestfallen is a masterpiece and Eternity is awesome too, I have Alternative 4 and I don't like it that much.

repcak 04-12-2006 08:27 AM
No prob man, Hey I have a doubt, are Anathema considered Doom Metal? because I saw that some people didn't consider them DM but I really hear a lot of DM moments in their songs.

NP: Anathema - ...And I Lust
thank you, for uploading it.

1# the song you're listening is great :thumb:
Anathema are the first doom metal band i listened too and are still my favourite Doom metal bands out there! to be serious they are on my top 5 list of all bands i listen to.

and yes, Anathema are doom! at first they made Doom-death Metal (as you hear in ....And I Lust); After the realse of "The Silent Enigma" (Their last doom death album) they changed their singer and started to make depressive-rock. and seriously i can't decide which anathema is better. old anathema and new anathema are both great! :thumb:

(old) Anathema opened for me doors to another world ...

- Serenades
- The Silent Enigma
- The Crestfallen
/me loves them

God, you are so right. They are amazing.

Freezing Moon 04-12-2006 04:05 PM

Epicurean Mass is one of my favorite doom albums.

Arucard 04-12-2006 06:00 PM

Isole > All.

I just love Forevermore so much, such a brilliant peice of music!

Freezing Moon 04-12-2006 10:17 PM

So I finally decided to check out Anathema. I downloaded their first EP... Crestfallen.

It seems pretty good, like Jondur said there seems to be a bit more doom than death which is cool. I like it a lot so far.

NP: The Sweet Suffering

repcak 04-13-2006 02:31 AM

great! one more anathema fanboy :thumb:

get serenades - its my fav album by them from their doom-death time.

Jondur 04-13-2006 03:42 AM
Epicurean Mass is one of my favorite doom albums.
Yes. I can't believe that they've gone from that album to complete inactivity. They made such an impact (rightly so) but still no follow up.

If they were still going they'd be the best US doom band.

Werny 04-13-2006 05:11 AM
I absolutely LOVE My Dying Bride.

My fav songs of theres would be:

Black Heart Romance
For my fallen angel
for you
return to the beautiful

check them out, it's allllll good!
I have their whole discography except for the live album. For You is so absorbing and relaxing, yet the awesome groovey doom riffs don't seem out of place.

I still have yet to hear the re-recording of Return Of The Beautiful. Stupid guy I got The Dreadful Hours off didn't have it.

My favourite songs are
All Swept Away
Sear Me
The Cry Of Mankind
The Dreadful Hours
The Snow In My Hand
Your River
The Bitterness And The Bereavement

I like their first two records better than the rest. As The Flower Withers was my first Doom album, and I didn't know it had growling (I had only heard tracks from Like Gods Of The Sun), it scared the life out of me!

Jondur 04-18-2006 05:38 AM

Looks like this thread has gone the same way as all the others

Listen to Bloodfarmers, Revelation and Count Raven. Now!

The Masked Guitarist 04-25-2006 09:31 AM

i've heard people call Type O Negative doom but i do not agree at all they are just goth or somthing

repcak 04-25-2006 09:37 AM

i will call them goth-(doom)-metal

Sleepy 04-25-2006 09:47 AM

I'm glad this thread got bumped. I love doom/gothic but I really don't have much.

repcak 04-25-2006 10:30 AM

what do you have? maybe i can recommend you some bands ...

the2stranger 04-25-2006 10:44 AM

I really love calm atmospheric interludes in funeral doom and after that bonecrushing riffs and gutterall growling.

/Slowly increases funeral dooom collection

Doomsword is some terrific doom with slight, very slight folk/viking tendencies.
Doomsword is some terrific doom with slight, very slight folk/viking tendencies.
If it comes from BlackWizard, of course it has folk/viking influence!

Thanks, though. I'll see what I can dig up by them.

Sins Of Thy Beloved is also some terrific doom (very gothy, but very doomy as well so I feel they can be talked about in this thread) WITHOUT my obligatory folk/viking leanings. They do use alot of violins though...

Violins = secks

I'm ordering some CDs today, so I'll be looking into both Doomsword and Sins of Thy Beloved. Perfect timing, Wizard, and thanks a bundle for the recommendations. :)

Novembre (especially Dreams D'Azur)
Lacrimas Profundere (Burning: A Wish), their last "doom" record, afterwards they got gothic... well the whole album is gothic-doom but its fantastic

Awesome, glad you like them. They are one of my favorites. Very depressing and sorrow filled music. Incredibly emotional and powerful. Empyrium and them are two of my favorites of that sort of thing.

Crysiss 04-25-2006 12:08 PM

Yea, I like the classical instruments used. It fits pretty well.

gmoneyguy 04-25-2006 12:10 PM

What other albums by Lacrimas Profunde should I pick up beside the one sent out on the Daily Upload?
