Hey Im thinking about changing my cymbal line up a tad. I'd prefer just to expand, and I have the money too, but i cant really justify it. So I'm thinking about selling/trading my 18" AAX dark crash. Anyone interested? I'm looking for either cash, or bright crashes to match my A custom 19", preferably more A customs. I might do the same to my 16" k custom dark crash and splash...i like the contrast between my dark ride and hats to bright crashes.

Nice washy crash but not too washy, and not zildjian sweet ride? thanks!
|
I just began drumming 5 days ago but only got the standard cymbals with my new set.
I'm planning to buy new cymbals this summer and i'm not sure what I should go for. I can't buy it from local stores, way to expencive, so i have to order them from US or with in EU that's why i can't test them my self. I'll be playing rock like Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Mars Volta. What should i go for? |
i currently have a 14" AAX studio crash, 16" XS20 rock crash and an 18" AAX stage crash. Now i'm looking for a new ride that would sound well with these with a washy sound to them. Right now i'm in the middle of looking at either a 20" HHX stage ride or a 21" HH Raw-Bell Dry ride. Any suggestions?

I can't speak for the HHX stage ride, but I can tell you that I have the 21" HH Raw-bell dry ride and it is freakin' sweet. It's really versitle. The only problem I have with that ride is it's kinda quiet, and had a little more wash than I was hoping for - but the wash is kind of a welcome sound now. It gives my set a little more something. Anyway, I like the 21" HH Raw-Bell Dry ride. It's what the name implies - Dry. It's not TOO washy, but then again, any cymbal is going to give wash. Sorry about this lengthy post, but in any case, I would choose the Dry ride. I think it sounds great - just try them both in a store some time. |

how much you would sell your aax dark, and is the cymbal in good shape? |
The cymbal is in great shape, its got a few stick marks, a few fingerprints...it sells new for 169 so im really just taking offers on it...i was hoping to trade it straight up for a 17" a custom that someone else had used but in fine condition, because they have the same new sale price...but i ll take offers on it. I'll post a good picture of it soon.

Anyone got the K/Z 14' hi-hats? I want something dark, and the wash shouldn't be too tonal or musical if you know what I mean, I hated the 13' A New Beats, the wash was too tonal and ringy. But I want something with a really nice thick, low chick sound. Should fit with pop/rock, classic rock/alternative, and the 'chick' should be funky.
|
Ok, my teacher has a Paiste 505 20" ride. It sounds fantastic but i cant find one like it anywhere. Did they stop making them? And if you have played one, what are your opinions of it?

I would think New Beats would work. I love the 14" New Beats, might want to try a larger hi-hat. Also look at Mastersounds. |
what is the thicker between the rock weight and the med-heavy weight?
|
A rock Weight is a Medium-Heavy in a Crash.
a rock weight ride would be a Heavy. (This goes for sabian anyway) |
I'm torn between the 16" Sabian HH duo crash and the HHX stage Crash to compliment my 17" Kcustom dark. I haven't heard them with my K custom so I'm not sure of the voulmes. Are they rougly the same? Also Which to you reckon would blend with the K custom better?
anybody? |
Alright johnny...I need your expertise once again.
I recently went and store tested some cymbals...some Paistes, Zils, and Sabians. The one I had anticipated testing the most was the HH Raw Bell Dry Ride. I love the bow sound and the bell sound...but I don't think it has enough volume. Also the wash was very...unmusical? I'm just not so sure that it would fit in well with my HHX Hats and Vault Crash. Any suggestions? |

well, it is a dry ride, and thus, the wash and volume will be diminished. if you are looking for more volume, in a similar sound, try and find a Hand Hammered Heavy ride. (or K. Zildjian Heavy Ride). it should be fairly low pitched, but the weight will be a bit heavier, and the bell a bit bigger. (more volume, a bit more wash). technically, stick definiton should be increased too, because its going to be heavier....hope that helps.
I think they are incredable... I have the 13'' dark crisp sig hats and next week I am getting the 14'' sound edge sig hats. :naughty:
Hey man I was actually deciding between dark crisps and sound edges. Which do you like better |
looking for a second crash and new hats. I play mostly rock and metal music, so I would prefer to avoid thin cymbals..Current cymbal setup is : Sabian 17" AA medium crash, 11" max splash, 20" AA rock ride. For the hats, im looking for a good all around pairing, was thinking about 14" AAx studios or 14" A New beats. Crash, something to compliment my current setup, looking for suggestions on both bright and dark crashes. And a trashy china around the 18-20 size, as I've got a 12" wuhan. Thanks

Well i'm in love with my new 14'' sig sound edge hats...suprisingly the 14'' sig sound edges are higher pitched than the 13'' sig dark crisp hats. The sound edges' are cleaner sounding with a smoother wash and tight as hell "chick" while the dark crisp has more of a crispy wash and chick as the name applies. I'm deciding which hats I want as the main and which one is going on the cable hat...but they both sound Delicious!!! you can't make a wrong choice between these two high-hats!!! :thumb: |

Hats AA 14" Regulars Crash 18" AAX Satge Crash or 18" HHX Studio Chinese 20" HHX Chinese |
Well, here's my first post... :)
I currently have all B8's besides my AA China and AA splash, and although I'm probably going to be buying a rack next, I like the idea to this thread and think I'll see what others reccomend for me. I'd like to upgrade my B8 crashes first though. I'm having trouble explaining what I want though. My band mates want something loud, and I'd agree on that for gigs. But when at home practicing, I like to play different styles (I play metal with my band) and I'd like my crashed to be warm sounding and kind of mix well with my drums, especially the bass drum. I read an article of Modern Drummer on the new Sabian Vault line, and they sounding good (though I've never played one) but I'm not sure. So any suggestions? I'd prefer Sabian cymbals, but I'll listen to other suggestions too. Thanks! :) |
for metal, i'd advise AGAINST the Vault series.
your best bets would be AA Medium Crashes (17" +) - they will cut through your metal, but wont sound bad or obtrusive when struck lightly. they are a fairly bright sounding cymbal, but compared to your B8's, they will sound warmer. gennerally, for metal, Bright sound are the choice, but you can look into the HHX stage Crashes or Hand Hammered Medium Crashes for darker tones. they will be a bit more expensive, but will be equally as thick, and loud as the AA's. |
I'm in the market for two new cymbals. A ride and a china.
Right now, I'm currently hitting an Zildjian A 20" Ping Ride. I really don't like the stick definition on it, it just starts to all wash out and blend into one sound. I'm looking for one with a nice sound (duh) and good stick definition. I'm thinking a K Custom, but I'd just like to see what ya'll think before I go to Sam Ash and check them out. I've never had a China before, and I don't really wanna spend too much money on one (they arn't supposed to have the greatest sound, no?). I really have no idea what to look for in a China. I don't really want a WuHan, I've heard those break real easy, and I'm a fairly hard hitter. Thanks. |
if you want more definiton than a Ping Ride, then K Custom is NOT what you want.
the only thing i can think of that has more sticking than any other ride on the face of this planet, is the A Zildjian Earth Ride. its a beast, and should be rather dry. B8 Pro for the china. a bit more that that of a Wuhan, but less trash, more tone, and your normal 1 year warranty and brand name relaiability. |

Bobby, any ideas for a complementing bright sounding crash? |
A customs should do the job. For bright I would go with the standard A custom crash. Or if your looking for quick decay go with the fast crash.
