Find the appropriate image, make sure it's the correct size (70x70 pixels) by using paint, Photoshop, etc. and go to User CP, Edit Avatar.

That should be it.

yea, how do people get their avatars to look like slideshows?

I tried to put in that avatar, and the forum is saying that it's not a valid GIF or something.

what do I do?

just search an image, and click on it so that it's the only thing on the page. copy and paste the site the image is on on the avatar upload from website thingy
