Marylin Manson - Sweet Dreams
Huh? A remake of the classic by the Eurythmics? Blasphemy! Well, it ain't actually that bad. I don't mind a bit of Manson every so often, I own Antichrist Superstar, and it's a very good CD. Anyway. It starts with some weird sounds, then the riff, on a guitar instead of the cheesy 80's synth. Manson's drawl comes in, singing the line 'sweet dreams are made of these...' it sounds pretty cool. Then a bass comes in, and drums follow it. It's a pretty heavy build up now, at least for a nu-metal song. Then the riff in a sort of weird keyboard effect. I don't know whether I like or dislike it. Then the 'sweet dreams' bit again. He has a nice range in his range, he has this nice raised voice, then he goes back to his drawl, then a crappy little scream. Then there's a kind of a synth solo. A bit of a instrumental bit, then a guitar solo. Nothing fancy, but it's pretty good. Now to his whispering bit, I don't really this bit. It's got nice piano in it though. It's kind of samey throughout the whole song now, unfortunately. 6/5/10. It's pretty good, but it's too slow throughout. He has done a lot better. ----- Deeds of Flesh - Empyrean (Brutal Death) Kreator - Agents of Brutality (Thrash) Mayhem - Funeral Fog (Black metal) Rhapsody - Eternal Glory (Classical Power Metal) Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover (Instrumental rock - listen to it a few times, I hated it at first, but now I love it :D ) |

Rhapsody - Eternal Glory
Nothing like Power Metal to get the heart pumping and the sword-arm swinging.
Rhapsody - Eternal Glory Well, I enjoy power metal... so I decided to check these guys out. The song starts out with a medieval march theme... very power metal. It is inspiring though. The drums kick in with a rolling march. Then the first theme comes back, with more cymbal clashing then a high school band. All of a sudden the metal sets in with a nice fast riff, and some quick drumming. The singer starts a bit later, his voice is nice when it's soaring, but sounds kind of sleazy when he comes down for the verses. The guitar work in the background is pleasant, but it's just a continuation of the intro riffs. The chorus is great, as more of the band join in to deliver a soaring swell of voices. Then the noise drops, the singers softly delivers a few lines, followed by a very nice piano and guitar interlude. Then the speed picks up again, and they kick back into the main song. The chorus at the end is very impressive. After the chorus ends, there is a soft, Irish-sounding ending on the piano, complemented by some guitar strumming. The song ends to the sounds of crickets. Ok, let's break down the song. Medieval march for the beginning? Check. Lyrics about dragons, knights and honour? Check. Yep, it's definitely a power metal song. Overall, though, I liked it, especially the interlude. There was enough musicianship and technical skill in this song to set these guys apart from the run-of-the-mill power metal band. And I think the song progressed well, from the march at the start to the soft swell at the end. I give it 9/10. I think I would listen to more by the band in the future. My picks: (Still in the Aussie Mood) Australian Crawl - Beautiful People or The Boys Light Up (New Wave Rock) Skyhooks - Smut ('70s Rock) Silverchair - Steam Will Rise or Suicidal Dreams (Grunge) AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie or Big Balls (Hard Rock) Jet - Come Around Again (Rock) Try it- It's different from the other **** on the radio |

ac/dc whole lotta Rosie
I'm not a big fan, so sorry if it's a bit byased. starts off with very bluesy like guitar parts of a sec of 2, then some singing, guitar, singing, guitar, singing. at 0;30 it goes different and actually a nice beat. 1:10 whole lotta Rosie, sung in a really ac\dc like style imo. goes on with this nice sound, and all of the sudden stops at 2:00 hmz, not much more to review  hm opinion: I like the song actually, vocals aren't too annoying, I normaly hate his vocals. it sounds too much 80's garage rock if you ask me, or it's just the style of ac/dc. it's catchy and all, but just doesn't do the trick. and sorry for the short review, just can't tell much exciting about it. ow, score.. 7/10 would I check out more? I don't think so, maybe, when I'm in the mood. ====== songs: amon amarth: Versus the world (melodic death) my dying bride - for you (doom metal) Queens of the stone age - the mosquito song ( rock funkish) meshuggah - we'll never see the day ( technical death metal) |

My Dying Bride - For You
Starts off nice and strong, good riff, sounds like an keyboard underneath then 00:30, guitar plays on its own, then the same riff, with another playing over..nice and atmospheric, and keyboard playing strings underneath..nice. this continues with the vocals, they are slow, as if singing the lyrics is painful to the singer. 01:56 - break with strings, and a heavier riff still at same pace 02:19 - back into lone guitar and next verse, i like the music in the verses :thumb: still continuing, without vocals, until, 04:26, back into the intro riff..very effective and with double bass drumming back to lone guitar at 04:56, then back to the heavy riff ( 01:56 ) i get the feeling the songs dragging on a bit, basically repeating the same 3 parts, but its not that annoying back to intro riff at 05:35 lone guitar finishes the song quite a depressing song lol, but i like that from time to time  Overall i enjoyed this song quite a bit, but like i said, it dragged on a bit at the end, maybe a solo would have made it better, 7/10. Ill be checking out more of their stuff My songs are: Smashing Pumpkins - Everlasting Gaze..or The Everlasting gaze (alternative? ) Dream Evil - The Prophecy (power metal) Thin Lizzy - Emerald (Classic rock) Cathedral - Fountain of Innocence (Doom metal) Carcass - Death Certificate (Death metal..i think) Fear Factory - Replica (Nu metal) Immortal -Withstand the fall of time (Black metal) |

cathedral - fountain of innocence.
starts off with the entire band playing, just from the beginning you're in the good doom sound. 0:50 vocals come in, but sound distorted. nice steady bassline, and some quite high pitched guitars in the background. 1:27 it gets heavier. I like this more. no more distortion on the vocals, that sounds better. 2:10 after a short bridge, a soft part, with the distorted vocals once more, but this sounds better. 2:45 heavy part again, which suits the music nice. 3:10, accoustic guitar the way it should be!, and great clean vocals 4:02 heavy electric guitars take over. and some rougher vocals. 4:20 a solo comes in. short though, and flows over into a bridge. 5:30 drums take a bit more lead. only very short though. 5:38 sounds like some soloing part , not a real solo, more like a jam session solo. but it sounds ok. at 6:08 a true solo emerges. and this solo carries on, till the end of the song, I like long solos :) opinion: Í'm into doom metal ,and always wanted to check this band out, but I can't find stuff on the internet. great doomy sound, and nice breakups, soft/hard/soft/solo, and so on. nice bridges, and of a nice lenghth, not just to connect two pieces of the songs, but it is part of the music, ( as it should be) I'm not to big a fan of the strange distorted vocals. the solo, especially in the end, is cool. score: 8,5/10 would I check out more? I'd love to, if I can find some more :p ==== songs: amon amarth: Versus the world (melodic death) A perfect circle - sleeping beauty ( prog art rock) <--just awesome Queens of the stone age - the mosquito song ( rock funkish) meshuggah - we'll never see the day ( technical death metal) American head charge - just so you know (not totaly nu-metal) <-- give it a try ;) |

APC-Sleeping Beauty
I hadn't heard this APC song in a while, so I chose it to refresh my memory. I like the format you guys have been using in the latest two reviews, so I'll do the review that way. 0:00 Starts off with a mediocre riff and interesting drums 0:24 Smooth singing verse 0:50 good pause for effect 0:52 slightly different riff with good ounding distortion 1:04 another verse 1:16 very mellow chorus 1:33 another smooth sounding verse 2:06 chorus-a little too mellow in my opinion 2:30 chorus with verse lyrics-This i really like 2:55 guitar solo??? 3:20 another solo, but not sure of instrument 3:43 a little more dramatic version of the chorus Overall this song is a very sleepy song with no real suspense and only a few intesting parts. I wasn't really in the mood for it, but I liked it. It's a bit too mellow compared to what I usually listen to, but it is a good song. Pros: Good lyrics. Good sounding guitar. OK guitar riffs. Decent drums. Cons: Waaaay too mellow throughout the whole song. Boring solos near the end. I give this song a 7 out of 10. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes more mellow rock. ____________________________________ Songs Alterbridge-One Day Remains(I love it.) Killswitch Engage - Take this oath
Killswitch Engage - Take this oath
I've heard this name being mentioned a lot, but I haven't actually heard them. Starts with distorted guitar, suprise surprise. Vocals come in, hardcore screaming. Some double bass drumming, not too bad. A new riff starts, this one is better than the opening riff, yeah I like this riff. Some clean vocals now, melodic riff. Not bad, not bad. I'm not really a very big fan of this metalcore vocals, but it's ok. There's a typical metalcore breakdown now, this is pretty nice, the riffs are all a bit similar though. Clean vocals over the breakdown, some build up to the intro riff and there we go again. The songs ends, I didn't really expect a solo and I was right. Would have been nice though. This wasn't a bad song, had some nice moments, but nothing special. I'd give it a 7/10. Recommended for Metalcore fans, probably. :) Some songs : Darkthrone - Where cold winds blow (Black Metal) Apocalyptica - Path (Cello Metal) Liquido - Narcotic (for Bartender maybe, just fun rock) At the Gates - Blinded by fear (Melodic Death classic) Cryptopsy - Cold Hate, Warm Blood (Brutal Death, without Lord worm) Soundgarden - Head down (A slow rock song) |
