The Samples...they are easily one of the worst Jam Bands I've heard. But maybe it's just their recorded stuff.
I downloaded some stuff...it's not that bad, what songs do you have?

wanton 04-05-2005 06:40 PM
i posted my band a little bit back, don't get your hopes up on getting a lot of feedback, only a couple of people said anything about us... http://www.purevolume.com/madagom just thought i'd post it again for the heck of it
I enjoyed the songs, you guys certainly have talent. The only thing that bugged me was that your drummer seemed a little obnoxious for the type of music you guys played played. But it was still great. :thumb:

edit: I also liked how you didn't try to sing like the majority of the bands on PureVolume. And notice I said "try", If any of you have singing ability, go for it.

2 albums worth.

e p 04-05-2005 10:59 PM
Yea, I own one. Quantum 5 string like Cactus. It's not really a trend....it's a known fact that Modulus's are just about the most versatile, best sounding, best quality basses made! The sound really just blows me the hell away. I think Phil Lesh played the first one in the 70's, and from then on it has been the choice of some of the best bassists in the world, Jam bands or not. But, jam band members tend to be more musically talented than musicians from other genres...a thank you very much ;)
I love the sounds mike can get with his

the slap tone and pick tone is great...but theyre pretty expensive :upset:

yeah, none of us have any vocal talent. there isn't anyone that we know that can sing either, but if they did they'd probably get bored from all of the instrumental stuff.

jpj 04-06-2005 02:40 PM

Jam bands don't need extremely talented vocalists. Just as long as they can stay in key.

JimStyle 04-06-2005 03:51 PM

Yeah Trey and Jerry aren't very gifted singers but they definitely get the job done, and done well.

jpj 04-06-2005 04:06 PM

They made up for it with great guitar skills.

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 04:15 PM
2 albums worth.
They've got 16...and it's not all that bad.

I don't mind Jerry's voice or Trey's...I like both of them.

Badmoon 04-06-2005 04:24 PM
They've got 16
Yea, unfortunatley the two albums I have are rated the best out of the others (by allmusic), and they are terrible in my opinion.
and it's not all that bad.
So yes, so far it's all that bad. IMO

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 04:25 PM

No offense but it seems you fo out of your way to be a prick.

Badmoon 04-06-2005 04:30 PM

Well, you keep going against my posts, dare I respond?

And I have stated numerous times that all of this is my opinion, you can think your way.

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 04:34 PM

You probably said that because I go to lots of shows and you don't...they've been around for over ten years, they play at festivals like Wakarusa, they are obviously good.

Badmoon 04-06-2005 04:36 PM

Oh ****, you got me there. It has got to be about jellousy
they've been around for over ten years, they play at festivals like Wakarusa, they are obviously good.
Worst. Logic. Ever!!!!!!

Wow! Play Festivals + Play long time = Good band

Please re-think that.

Hah, keeping rolling your eyes at my logic...I gues the good bands last 2 years and play at terrible venues right?

You know The Bee Gees and ABBA played for awhile, and certainly tackled some huge arena's.
They created good music...the Bee Gees were the kings of disco pop and Abba was a successful pop group too. Too bad this is a jam band thread.

SplitOpenAndMelt 04-06-2005 04:48 PM

I don't like them...sorry.

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 04:51 PM

Apology accepted.

Badmoon 04-06-2005 04:53 PM

Well, to you they are good (Well, at least your saying that to make yourself seem right), but there is no doubt that bad bands also stick together, and play large arenas. Because it is after all, all opinion. And to me, those bands suck, so they completely go against your silly logic.
Too bad this is a jam band thread.
Does that make a difference?

SplitOpenAndMelt 04-06-2005 04:56 PM

Yeah, I hate when sucky bands play huge venues...*cough* Oasis at MSG*cough*

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 04:57 PM

Yeah I know it's my opinion it's also the opinion of millions of others who frequent their shows because they love their music which gets them the notoriety to play at huge festivals like Wakarusa. If they sucked then they would not be having huge tours and no one would buy their CDs, which is your silly logic.
Does that make a difference?
Yes..it's irrelevant unless you named two jam bands.

Badmoon 04-06-2005 05:02 PM

The logic of opinion...here it comes...It sounds bad = it is bad.

Now apparently to two users (so far) this band is bad. Which makes your logic silly. I am sure there are bands you hate who play large venues or sell millions of CD's.
Yes..it's irrelevant unless you named two jam bands.
The conversation is not just on Jam Bands. But if it makes you happy...

OAR
The Samples

Does that make you feel more sure of your arguement, sway your opinions, change anything...no, not really.

If you wanna use opinions as your argument I can use it against you, in my opinion OAR and The Samples are good. That is also the opinion of many others who listen to their music. Bands don't become popular by sucking, they're obviously doing something right.
The logic of opinion...here it comes...It sounds bad = it is bad.
I have a hedonistic philosophy when listening to music..if it sounds good it is good. "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees sounded good, it's a fun song and it was great to dance to, therefore it is good. The Samples sound great live, I'm seeing them live, so I'm guessing it'll be a good show. Oh wait nevermind that is silly logic, they sound great live so the show will suck...therrre we go :o

Badmoon 04-06-2005 05:16 PM

You are not using that against me, you are agreeing with me.

I don't know if you are trying to some how be original in this conversation with that thought, or you believe you are one upping me, but "It sounds bad = It's bad" and "It sounds good = It's good" are the same logic. Your original logic was that majority rules; if more people like it than don't, they must be fabulous.

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 05:21 PM

No I'm disagreeing with you, I thought that was clear but I guess not...
I hate metal. Ozzfest probably sells out wherever it goes. They msut be doing something right, like playing good metal music otherwise no one would go.

It's hard to keep thinking of examples since you can't just understand facts or opinions at face value. Phish is good, do I have to explain that to you? They toured and stayed together for many years because people kept buying their Cds and attending their shows.

e p 04-06-2005 05:27 PM

Music is subjective to the listener or rather an individual , not the audience as a whole.

Backstreet Boys have sold millions of records, therefore they are good...well, not in my opinion. But thats where the secret is as its all opinon. Obviously the people who bought their records think theyre good but I dont, therefore it is all opinion.

Golden rule for music: "if it sounds good to you, it's bitch'n. If it sounds bad to you, it's shittty."—Frank Zappa

Oh, so because everyone but you likes Ozzy Osbourne, that must make him a good artist, no matter what you think. Sure he did something right, but that does not make him a good artist, because good is all opinion.
Phish is good, do I have to explain that to you? They toured and stayed together for many years because people kept buying their Cds and attending their shows.
And because they sell CD's they are good. That is beyond stupid. They are good because you like their music. Now let's say I don't like their music, then they are not good to me (IMO!!!!!).

Why do you not understand what I am saying. I have said it countless times.

EP gets it, SplitOpenAndMelt gets it, I get, most get it, why don't you?

Now please, keep posting your arguments, though I have to go, maybe someone else will state what I am saying once again, and maybe you'll understand.

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 05:30 PM

I don't like the Backstreet Boys, but I don't say they suck, because they didn't to about a billion teenage girls. That was 50% of the argument, the other 50% was Badmoon arguing that he is the biggest prick on MX to me, (IMO!!!11!!1)

jpj 04-06-2005 06:29 PM

BADMOON DOES NOT ENJOY LISTENING THEIR MUSIC THEREFORE HE FEELS THAT IT IS BAD MUSIC. I'M SURE THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO LIKE THEIR MUSIC, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE HAS TO.

I don't really see what the argument is here.
