been listening to some cassette ambient recently. working my way through marble sky's discography. so far i'm enjoying no matter how close the most and the sad return the second most.

wild safari - cave sequins (john and kount might like)
andrea ferraris & matteo uggeri - autumn is coming, we're all in slow motion (really super fucking good, anyone will probably like this)
zach troxell-portals and gates (haz and kount, you might like this)
sovetskaya gone - graveyards of the atlantic (john i think you'd like this)

some new shit i've been on about

Countorus 12-04-2011 03:37 PM

~**~the sad return is bliss*~*

i did

cassette ambient is just a slang term i've picked up for ambient that's noticeably more lo-fi than your typical shit and it's in a cassette.

a lot of times it carries a negative connotation (i.e. anything related to josh burke or dolphins into the future)

--

i liked the sad return it's just it was a tad too long.

did you ever listen to that winter album of mine kount? it's a similar structure but more melancholy. (omg tryin to be wraiths w/ one 27 min. long song.)

Haz 12-04-2011 04:11 PM

that Cylon album was great, very impressed thanks

is the lo-fi nature of the ambient due to tape conversion though this is what bothers me about judging things by rips we dig up on the internet sometimes

i feel the same way about a lot of the stuff i gather but i have a few reputable people i download from which ends a lot of that worry.

also that's why i tend to go for the drone-focused side of ambient more than the electronic. the electronics aren't used too well to begin with and the tape/purposeful lo-fi quality makes it worse. the drone-spectrum is quite a bit more forgiving, plus it generally tends to be more expressive and whatnot.

anyway cylon is fantastic.
