I meant generally speaking.
I guess. If the song calls for it, it calls for it, but I agree that, in general, slap bass isn't very rock-friendly. |
In that situation can't you just use your index finger for the E string notes and stretch for the others, or a thumb pluck / finger pluck deal?
|

Yeah, I often use my thumb and index and middle to pluck, classical guitar-style. It's good for quieter numbers, but I can't go super fast. |
Can't wait to get this six string out of the way so I can shoot for that 5 string fretless that I want more.
I was gonna buy myself a nylon string acoustic as a treat but it might have to wait :(. |
Badass slapping in non stupid music:
Sikth, Mudvayne, The Arrusha Accord |

Easier said than done. That is a tough stretch. |

Yeah, I'd have to have a sixer in my hands before I could say what that was like. |

My string spacing is a bit closer than yours, but just imagine that there's a 5th string above your G-string that you have to accurately hit. Plus, I distort for that part, so the slapping comes through as extra heavy. |
I think I could do it but I wouldn't claim it for certain. I'll give it a try when I get mine just out of curiosity.

I just played that out. It's not a hard stretch at all, using your thumb to pluck the open E and using your index for the harmonics. |
I am bored :(.
The ICC Champion's Trophy final is turning out to be a closer contest than expected though which will give me something to watch. |

And without using your thumb? I may just stick to the slap. I don't know that my thumb will sound aggressive enough otherwise. |
Huge craving for hot chips with chicken salt right here.

Not sure what chicken salt is, but I definitely just had a roasted chicken sub smothered in Franks red hot sauce. Best buffalo sauce ever. |

I have to write an obituary and memorial plaque for work. Weird.

That is a bit weird. Can't imagine that'll be too hard, though, eh? |
That is a bit weird.
Can't imagine that'll be too hard, though, eh?
Nope. Should be done in about 10-20 minutes. |
Not like the person's going anywhere, anyway.

Chicken salt is amazing. I'm not sure that it tastes like chicken, but it's a million times more awesome than just salt on your chips. I think outside of Straya it's called seasoning salt or something. I have my chips avalanched with it. |

Lol. Christ, this is strange. I don't actually know her, but I need this to be 1) Really sensitive and 2) Really, really short. Nearly done now... |
Shouldn't they get someone who knows her to write it?

They all deferred to me...Apparently I have a reputation for tasteful writing? I don't personally know her, but her family is somehow connected to my job and other people I work with. |
Oh great, her favourite quote was from my favourite anti-semite and warmongerer: St. Augustine.

Listen to: Scent of the Obscene Pull My Finger Summer Rain there's probably more, but they're the slappiest Sikth tracks. |
Listen to:

slap guitar harmonics
